Silvia Otaola has been making jewelry for 9 years, creating extraordinary artistic jewelry pieces in the industry. Otaola graduated from the Glassell School of Art with a certificate of achievement with a major in jewelry. Otaola also has a certificate of achievement with a major in sculpture. Otaola is originally from Argentina where she grow up in an artistic family. She always enjoyed creating things with her hands. Her works have been featured in various exhibitions and shows in and out of Houston. Currently Otaola is an international student at Houston Community College studying fashion design. She wants to explore the fashion design industry so her artistic jewelry will perfectly match the cloth brand she will create. Sometimes I have ideas when I am sleeping. It’s a good idea to keep the notebook on top of your night table to write down the detail of your future piece. Everybody has different working process. Generally, I start from the scratch and later on I apply it directly on the material I have chosen. I found out that the more I work with jewelry, the more I understand how to design it. Sometimes I spend late hours at the school studio just finding out the exact steps of putting the pieces together. In jewelry, you have to know exactly the steps of putting details together. This process has to do with having an engineering mind. That is what I like about artistic jewelry. Jewelry by itself is very feminine but the process of making it has a masculine side. I love the combination of both. It is not just about having inspiring idea about jewelry that I want to design it is about the construction process. Wangechi Mutu, born on June 22, 1972 in Nairobi, Kenya, is a female artist that has explored and challenged the idea of gender and racial identity while simultaneously questioning our perception of the individual and the position we have in our culture and the natural world around us. Through her use of painting, collage, sculptor, video and performance mediums she has combined our mainstream ideal of beauty and her vision of what beauty can be to create a new perception of what we are as humans. Wangechi grew up and attended school in Nairobi and eventually moved to Wales to go to the United World College of the Atlantic. She then moved to New York City to study at the New School for Social Research and Parsons School of Art and Design. She has also earned an honorary Masters of Fine Art from Yale University. Ashley Huerta Osores is a successful pharmacist, who focused her career on community service. Her journey began in the City of Baltimore, where she attended both undergraduate and professional school. Within her community, she was dedicated to serving the underprivileged. For years, she immersed herself in aiding the neighborhood. In her undergraduate years, she volunteered at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC); while in pharmacy school, she participated in local health fairs by giving flu shots, and she worked at a local pharmacy. Additionally, Osores was enrolled in a duel degree program, earning the Doctor in Pharmacy (PharmD) and Masters in Public Health (MPH) degree. For her, becoming a pharmacist was not enough. She felt it important to understand policies, regarding healthcare, so that she could help implement change in wide communities.

For several years, she had to deal with having braces and working at payless, and now is dealing with wearing glasses due to her astigmatism. Juan De Onate was born in Zacatecas, Mexico in 1550. He was the first Spanish governor of New Mexico and strived to find North America’s wealth but failed to succeed. He was in office from November 1598 until April 18, 2016, where he was succeeded by his son, Cristobal de Onate. According to BIography.com, Conquistador Juan de Oñate established the colony of New Mexico for Spain on April 30, 1598. Subsequently, his ongoing mission lead him to cross the Rio Grande at El Paso in May, which would later become a famous crossing point.
