In the two films The Patriot, and 1776, there were some similarities and there were differences. Some of the similarities and differences had to do with the setting and the time period it was in. Also in the films the some of the characters shared the same traits, the wars in the movies in the movies were also different like in The Patriot it had a lot to do with war but in the 1776 movie it had to do with the signing of the Declaration of Independence. They both both share the one important thing America’s independence. In the film 1776 it’s main focus is on the writing of the Declaration of independence. They still get notes from what is going on in the war though, like how everything is going and how they are doing and what is going …show more content…
For the Patriot it was when Tom Dobbs had the plan to hide in the grass and take out the british when they walked by carrying supplies in their carts. These I felt was the points in both movies where people actually started to think we had a chance of winning. There were also differences in these movie though like where in the Patriot The main focus of the movie was independence through war where in 1776 film they were getting independence through the Declaration of independence. The Main characters were also going through different things, in the movies in the Patriot, the main character was a farmer that had war background and 2 of his sons died because of war, but they at least died fighting for independence. In the film 1776 the main character had a family he had to leave to go vote for independence and most of his children were very ill. Also in the Patriot most of the scenes were in the battle field or on the farms, where in the film 1776, they were mostly in the town and inside the meeting house. The film 1776 also mentioned slavery and they have a whole scene on it where in the Patriot didn’t talk about it or worry about it. In conclusion, both of the movies did a great job on covering america's independence and how it might have happened. Each individual movie did a great job explaining how america
The revolutionary war was started on April 19, 1775 and ended on September 3, 1783. This war was a fight between the loyalist and the patriots. The Loyalist were a group of people who as in their name was loyal to the king. The Patriots were a group of people who wanted freedom so they moved away and became independent. Between the Loyalist and the Patriots I would have to say the Patriots were better.
The French Revolution and the American Revolution have many similarities but there are definitely some differences between these two wars as well. Yes, both wars were focused around liberty and equality and both were trying to gain freedom but the main difference between these two wars were the context. (www.quora.com) America wanted to gain freedom from rules and taxes that Great Britain had put upon them, whereas France wanted to abolish the French monarchy and form a better government where people had more freedom of speech.
Have you ever seen “The Patriot”? If you have do you know the truth behind it because some parts really happened and some parts didn’t. Meaning that “The Patriot” is somewhat historically accurate. The Patriot is somewhat historically accurate because the main character Benjamin Martin was not a real person he was based on Francis Marion, the Battle of Cowpens was exactly the same because the colonist had extra help to fight off the British, and the surrender of Colonel Cornwallis was somewhat alike because his army could not get around the French and the colonist in history and in the movie. So “The Patriot” has many differences and similarities to history.
1776 is a film about the path to American independence. Specifically the actions and conversations that the continental congress took part in. John Adams is the first character that is introduced in the movie. He has proposed the Idea of American independence before the congress 23 times and has been rejected every time because Adams is perceived as obnoxious and disliked within the congress. Adams goes to Benjamin Franklin for help getting congress to listen to him and Franklin suggests that they get Richard Henry Lee to propose Independence instead of Adams, because the congressmen like Lee more than Adams. Richard Lee then proceeds to go to his home colony of Virginia to get approval for the resolution. Lee comes back to Philadelphia
The movie, The Patriot, is the story of a South Carolina plantation owner, Benjamin Martin, who leads a local militia against British troops in the South during the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. Martin, who is a widower with six children and a veteran of the French and Indian War, wants nothing to do with the war until a brutal British Colonel, William Tavington, kills one of his sons and takes his eldest son, a member of the Continental Army, prisoner. Martin, who’s character is loosely based on Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, uses guerrilla warfare to cut British supply lines and attack outposts in an attempt to slow General
The film 1776, directed by Peter H Hunt, produced by Columbia Pictures, and starring actors such as William Daniels, Howard Da Silva, Ken Howard, and more is a comedic and musical retelling of the events and struggles occurring in congress leading up to the declaration of the USA’s independence from Britain. The film takes place during 1776 in Philadelphia, mostly within the Carpenter’s Hall where the Second Continental Congress was held. While it only took place within Philadelphia, it was able to present the attitudes of the different colonies through the delegates.
Movies are made to be sold and not history to be perfectly told. If movies include a complete history, it wouldn't be known as a movie anymore. However, it would be called a documentary, which most people get fed up of. So interpretations, exaggerations and idealistic scenes are added to the movie to make it more interesting for the audience. "The Patriot" is a similar film made during the modern day time about a time period in which none of the experienced the real revolution. Politically, socially, and culturally, "The Patriot" attempts to give a sense of the scope of aspects involved in the American Revolution. Despite succeeding in this regard, it still lacks details that reveal the true complexity of the mixed sentiments present in
1776 written by David McCullough was a very accurate portrayal of the the revolutionary war. The author chose to write the events with mostly a non biased perspective and was able to use multiple sources from the time. This allowed the author to write the book in an interesting way and inform the reader of this vital time in the nation 's history. The book focuses on the life and struggles of George Washington as he progresses through life and the war. It was helpful that the author showed his perspective and thoughts as he grew to become the leader many people think him as today. It is stated that George washington was not a very strong leader when he took control on July third, but it was his perseverance and unrelenting determination that ultimately won the war. Also, The author chose to give insight into the other important leaders who influenced how the war progressed through the year. This was not only accomplished by direct quotes but the author also explained why some decisions were made on both sides made the events less complicated. The fact that the author chose to focus of Washington and the troops lives also made it more personal and it helped that the narrative did not jump around to give an overview of the war from all perspectives.
The American Revolution was different from all other revolutions because it was the first successful attempt that established a government. Another thing that distinguished this revolution from the others is that it did not occur from within.
Our America the book and the movie, are they the same or different. In Our America as a book it goes from showing how LeAlan and Lloyd’s life is in the ghetto. From there it tells how LeAlan and Lloyd starts to talk about a little boy named Eric Morse, that got dropped out of a 14 story high rise and what the people that lived in that apartment have to say about it. The book and movie versions of Our America has many differences such as the way they showed how Eric Morse feel from the 14th floor, and how they added things to the end of the movie but they did not happen in the book.
The American Revolutionary war started the change and founding of a new country. From gaining our freedom from Britain, America was a developing country with a new type of government and laws. From documents showing different depictions of society post of the war, it gives the reader a view on all aspects of what was happening in America. From slavery to the government these documents show each part of society in different ways and showing how we progressed in revolutionizing America. The reason for America making all these differences after the war was not an easy feat and that came from the citizens wanting freedom and change.
The Revolutionary War was a fight for independence. People who traveled to America only wanted to escape the tyranny of King George and all of the injustice, corruption, and destruction, but it only followed them. People had enough with this and decided it was better to stand up against England, their motherland, and fight for what's theirs, independence. During the time people communicated through literature and it made a great impact on the Revolutionary War. Passages like The Declaration of Independence and The Crisis Number 1 changed how people viewed England and persuaded them to fight for their independence. Both Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine use similar literary devices to develop their argument.
1776 started off in Britain, giving a background of King George III and the start of the war. Then the book moved to the Siege of Boston in America. In the siege of Boston an account of both militaries moves and living routines were given leading up to the Continental Army taking Dorchester Heights. This forced the British to evacuate because Washington had sent for cannons and on Dorchester heights was close enough for deadly fire on Boston. From Boston, Washington left a small group, but the rest of his troops moved to New York; which was the British’s next target. At New York the battle of Brooklyn was disastrous for the Continental Army. Afterwards the British moved ships into the Hudson and unleashed the remainder of Washington’s troops who had yet to retreat. When they fled to New Jersey the Continental Army was once again bested. Soon after a brutal loss at Fort Washington was inflicted. Thousands of troops were captured because there were too many in the fort to defend effectively when they had to fallback. Finally Washington made a brilliant strike in the Battle Trenton that gave the Continental Army the momentum it so dearly needed.
The American Revolution, which occurred approximately from 1765 to 1786, is also known as the American Revolutionary War and the U.S. War of Independence, for good reason. The conflict rose from rising tensions amid the people of Great Britain’s thirteen American colonies and the colonial government, which represented the British crown. Clashes between Britain’s troops and colonial militiamen in Lexington and Concord in April 1775 kicked off the armed conflict, and by the following summer, the rebels were waging a full-scale war for their independence. The American Revolution had tremendous consequences, and was not simply a victory of arms on the battlefield, but also a feat of economic and political ideals, and vital societal changes. This huge period of history set into motion greater changes in American life and created a country, demonstrating just how this revolutionary age in time more than earned its name. This battle of independence waged by the American colonies against Britain influenced political ideas and revolutions around the globe, as a young, largely divided nation won its freedom from the greatest military force of its time.
Historic movies are often produced with the premise that they will tell an honest tale about the past, but how accurate are they really? The Patriot is a historical movie the shows the life of an ex-war hero, Benjamin Martin, and his life continuing on through the American Revolution. This includes his interaction with the soldiers and generals, his political stance, and his involvement through the towns. Because the Benjamin Martin is fictional The Patriot cannot be called 100% accurate, but that doesn't mean that other aspects shown were inaccurate. The Patriot demonstrates authentic knowledge of history militarily, socially, and politically.
