The Crucible
“ The battleline between good and evil runs through the heart of everyone.” In the play “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, the town of Salem is going insane, people are talking witchcraft, accusing the innocent, getting revenge on their enemies, and destroying one another both physically and emotionally. One man, John Proctor never thought one sin of lechery could end up destroying his family and costing his life. His wife, Elizabeth Proctor would have never guessed that by staying with him she would have someone out to ruin her, or that she’d be in court lying and finalizing her and her husband’s death. All because of one woman who cannot stand the thought of Mr. Proctor with someone else, who would stop at nothing to see Elizabeth’s body hanging from the rope. Abigail Williams has one motive, and it is to win. It is truly insane to believe that one evil person can impact a whole town full. In the play “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, the battle is not between witches and God, but is between the faces of good and evil.
John Proctor was the man who realised his good intentions too late, for his sin of lechery with Abigail Williams had already done so much damage that he had signed his death certificate, as well as many others, the minute he met her.
