Jesse Owens and Othello both struggled with not being accepted because of their race. Othello was a great war general and Jesse was an outstanding Olympic athlete. Both of them, even though they were great at what they did, they didn't get treated as well as they would if they were from a different race. This is a reflection of the theme of racism in the play Othello. Racism was an important part of Othello because if he wasn't from a different race then the story would be completely different because that's the only reason why Desdemona's father and everyone else has a problem with Othello. It was also a big part of Jesse’s life because even though he was a top athlete he was still treated poorly because of his race. Although, I think Othello was treated better than Jesse was,

For Othello, it was during the beginning of the play when Desdemona's father and some other people were questioning if he used magic to make her fall in love with him. Given that, they thought she would never fall in love with him on her own because of his skin colour. Further, Othello’s wife’s father continues to say racist things to and about Othello. Although he was was a great and intelligent war general, he still felt like an outsider because of where he came from. Jesse was a powerful and well-trained Olympic athlete who also faced the same type of challenges. For one thing, he was thought of as a lesser because of where he came from. As well as, he wasn't allowed live on campus while in college, or to stay in the same hotels and eat in the same restaurants while travelling with his team.
