Similarities Between Night And Schindler's List

On the United States Holocaust Museum, I went to the exhibit titled, “Some Were Neighbors”. In this exhibit, it explained the different kinds of people the Jews were around during the holocaust, how those people acted towards the Jews. It mainly talked about how they had helped or harmed the Jews simply because of fear, peer pressure, or just because they could. From this info, a lot of connections could be stated, each between both the book Night and the movie Schindler’s List. One of the first connections I made, was the one where the Jews were treated poorly, and what it had shown in the movie. Throughout Schindler’s List, we see the Jews being bombarded with insults and racial slurs. A majority of the people saying these things, seemed to be neighbors of the Jews, before the Jews were moved to concentration camps or ghettos. …show more content…

It wasn’t talked about as much as in the movie, but it certainly was there. Within the first few chapters, we see the Jews being deported to Auschwitz on a train. On the way there, they stop on the tracks, just beside people who were farming on a field. Here, they are thrown bread, not to be fed, but so the bystanders could watch the Jews fight over it. This is another example, essentially because it shows how these people thought they were in power, and got sadistic joy watching others kill themselves over food. So this could definitely compare to the exhibit on the site, “Some Were Neighbors”. As to why these people did it, is a little beyond me. There are, of course, plenty of potential reasons. And one of the main ones I feel like, is the fear factor. A lot of the people had probably saw the way the Nazis were treating the Jews, with all of the forcefulness and the random killings. Seeing this, most people, including myself, would try to act like they hated the Jews to avoid getting killed or harmed by the Nazis. It just seems to make sense in
