Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief is based off Greek mythology. Percy Jackson is a half-blood, which means half human, half god, but even more shocking he is the son of Poseidon; one of the big three. Percy just discovered this whole new world, but now Zeus’s master bolt is missing and all fingers are pointing at Percy. Percy must find the bolt and return it to Zeus in 10 days or else a god war will begin. Through Percy’s quest to find the bolt, Percy shows courage even when he is facing his biggest fears. From the beginning Percy shows courage even when he is scared. Percy first showed his courage when he was fighting Mrs. Dobbs. “ Absolute terror ran through my body. I did the only thing that came naturally: I swung the sword.” Through this paragraph Percy shows that even though he was absolutely terrified he still showed courage. When Percy swung the sword and killed Mrs. Dobbs it …show more content…
Another fight in Percy’s journey also showed his courage. “They charged across the stream. There was no help in sight. I could run. Or I could defend myself against half the Ares cabin.” This shows that Percy has the option to run away or to stay and show courage by fighting. When Percy stays and fights against half of the Ares cabin, it shows that he is a great fighter and that later he will be able to stand up against bigger things. One place Percy has to show a lot of courage was the fight on the Arch “”Die, faithless one,” Echidna rasped, and the Chimera sent a column of flame towards my face. “Father, help me,” I prayed. I turned and jumped. My clothes on fire, poison coursing through my veins, I plummeted toward the river.” Percy was fighting a huge fire-breathing monster and was wounded, the monster made Percy jump over the edge of the monument, but he was scared. Percy showed his courage by jumping over the edge even though he was scared and he thought he was going to
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is about a 12 year old boy named Percy Jackson who's getting chased by mythological monsters and his two friends Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, and Grover Underwood a satyr who is Percy's protector. Percy got sent to camp Half-Blood for protection from monsters and got assigned a mission to find a lightning bolt that the gods think he stole and prevent a war between the gods, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus.
Courage is shown by doing something selfless. Andrew received a draft form the union army, and instead of going to fight the war like a man he chickened out.
In the book Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Percy is your typical 12-year-old boy who is a troublemaker in school and lives with his mother’s abusive husband. Percy’s life changes when he accused of stealing Zeus’ master bolt and attacked by monsters. Percy’s mother is killed along the way towards a camp called Camp Half-Blood and trains his heritage as a demigod. Percy is then sent on a heroic quest, with friends, to prove his innocence and along the way, rescue his mother from Hades. After a long and arduous journey of being chased by monsters, Percy managed to return the lightning bolt and save his mother. Percy is then betrayed by a close friend, as the friend was the thief, and escaped while warning them of the true mastermind.
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief has very similar plot types and structures to the original “The Legend of Perseus”. However, there are a few essential changes to help restore the original. To start, in the call to adventure Percy Jackson’s mother is taking Percy to the beach and cabin to relax and get his favorite blue candies.
Odysseus embodies courage in that he has the ability to something that maybe considered frightening to another. Odysseus’s boldness comes at full force first when he fights along his men in the Trojan War, then it makes another appearance in the second act when he fights against a man eating Cyclops. Another great display of courage he portrays is when he takes his men into battle he leads them in strong fighting with them and not just standing idly by while each of them are picked off. Odysseus lead his men into battle, fought a Cyclops, and fought in the Trojan War, he was not frightened, but strong against his many ordeals.

Assertion :The Odyssey and The Princess Bride, courage is knowing the odds are against you and moving forward anyway. Evidence: The princess Bride courage quote– “IT WAS NOT, in point of fact, her Westley that was causing the commotion out front. We’ve all faced difficulties in life and been at a point where having courage and maintaining hope was the only option available. While you may think courage simply means an act of bravery it’s much more. Courage takes a bigger picture of an act of bravery. It takes one to believe and have the ability to push through the hardest of times even when the results may not be guaranteed. It can be compared to a weapon armed in everyone's heart. You know when to take your gun out and load the bullets. A few of the main characters in the novel Between Shades of Gray ,Elena, Lina, and Andrius display courage in occasions that are easier said than done.
Courage is crucial to be able to overcome obstacles and help others. Courage is a big theme in The Outsiders. For example, Ponyboy showed a lot of courage when he decided to fight in the rumble. He wasn’t in good shape as he had lost weight and was very tense. However, he fought in the rumble regardless to show his gang that he
Even though Percy faced many difficulties and setbacks along the way, he never seized to show his bravery. One of the boldest examples of his bravery is when Percy recuses Comte de Tournay. After rescuing Comtesse de Tournay and her children, Comtesse tells the Pimpernel that her husband still remains in Paris. The Pimpernel then departs on a dangerous and deadly journey to rescue Comte de Tournay. Throughout the
Who does not want to be courageous? The House of Hades, by Rick Riordan, is a tale of good versus evil. In the book, Percy Jackson and his friends are on a quest to save the world from destruction by the evil goddess Gaea. Percy and his friends find themselves in the realm of Tartarus and must find their way to the Doors of Death to close them. Closing the doors will prevent the army of monsters and titans, which cannot die, from returning to the mortal world and destroying it. Despite the fact that things look incredibly daunting, courage is what keeps Percy fighting. This quality, courage, is what enables us to stand up for our convictions; helps us to persevere even when the odds are against us; and it gives us the strength to stand up for what is right regardless of the consequences. Therefore, developing this quality over the years will help attain my goal of becoming President of the United States of America. Even though there are other important qualities that we possess, courage is the most important, because without it we may not get the opportunity to utilize the others.
Courage or the act of being courageous is something that can depict if a person is being weak. This act ties into the classic tale when identifying the strength it took Sundiata to walk. Sundiata was at an age where other young boys were gathering objects for their mothers and he simply could not, due to the fact that he was unable to walk. However, “In a great effort he straightened up and was on his feet at one go, but the great bar of iron was twisted and had taken the form of a bow.” (Page 21) A boy who once couldn't walk was now walking. He who once had to depend on his mother can now be the one his mother depends on. Thus, “ When Sogolon saw her son standing she stood dumb for a moment, then suddenly she sang these words of thanks to god who had given her son the use of his legs”. (Page 21) Sogolon was so discouraged to the point where the sight of her son’s slow development became an embarrassment. She soon became joyful of the courage
Percy Jackson thinks he is a normal twelve years old student. Well, not normal because he has Dyslexia and ADHD. One day, after encountering a mythological creature, chasing after him for an unknown reason, he learns that he is not ordinary, after all. He is a son of an Olympian God, Poseidon, and his best friend, Grover, is not a boy, but a satyr in disguise. He does not have Dyslexia and ADHD, he just has the ability to read Ancient Greek, and act like a warrior. His mother kept
For instance, the passage states, “The next day I arrived at school twenty minutes early and did what needed to be done.” In other words, this shows Ava is courageous because even though the coach and the boys are rude to her, she is sticking up for herself, and telling the teachers what is going on. This is very courageous because the boys could come back at her. Along with this, another way Ava is courageous is when she talks to Lindsay about the track team. This shows courage because since the boys were mean to her, and she hadn’t talked to anyone about track, it could have been scary to talk about the track team and confide in someone. But Ava talked about it anyhow, and that shows a lot of courage. In addition, the passage also states that the boys were asking if Ava was dead, and then when she replied, they said,”I thought we’d get lucky.” This represents the claim because she had to not cry and show courage because otherwise, they would then be mean to her even more. In conclusion, the theme of courage shows up a lot throughout the story Don’t Give Up The
