Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief is based off Greek mythology. Percy Jackson is a half-blood, which means half human, half god, but even more shocking he is the son of Poseidon; one of the big three. Percy just discovered this whole new world, but now Zeus’s master bolt is missing and all fingers are pointing at Percy. Percy must find the bolt and return it to Zeus in 10 days or else a god war will begin. Through Percy’s quest to find the bolt, Percy shows courage even when he is facing his biggest fears. From the beginning Percy shows courage even when he is scared. Percy first showed his courage when he was fighting Mrs. Dobbs. “ Absolute terror ran through my body. I did the only thing that came naturally: I swung the sword.” Through this paragraph Percy shows that even though he was absolutely terrified he still showed courage. Another fight in Percy’s journey also showed his courage. “They charged across the stream. There was no help in sight. I could run. Or I could defend myself against half the Ares cabin.” This shows that Percy has the option to run away or to stay and show courage by fighting. When Percy stays and fights against half of the Ares cabin, it shows that he is a great fighter and that later he will be able to stand up against bigger things.One place Percy has to show a lot of courage was the fight on the Arch “”Die, faithless one,” Echidna rasped, and the Chimera sent a column of flame towards my face. “Father, help me,” I prayed. I turned and jumped. My clothes on fire, poison coursing through my veins, I plummeted toward the river.” Percy was fighting a huge fire-breathing monster and was wounded, the monster made Percy jump over the edge of the monument, but he was scared.
