Similarities Between The Help And The Outsiders

When writing The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton built her story around several key themes that readers could identify. After reading this book, I'm confident I have found a few of them. Stick with your people and uniqueness conquers wealth were probably lesser themes Hinton included for us to become conscious of. There is a bigger theme though. I believe stand in the shoes of people who are different is the most worthy overall theme for this book, and is supported with three examples from the text. First, when Ponyboy undergoes a revelation while talking to Cherry, also when (example 2 here), and finally when (example 3 here).

There are some similarities between “the Outsiders” movie and novel. For example The greasers winning the rumble. “...but he was grinning happily because the Socs were running,”(Hinton 145). The rules of the rumble were hands only and who ever runs first lost and the Socs ran first. As well as Ponyboy waking up next the fountain with Bob lying in front of him dead and Johnny completely shocked. “I was lying on the pavement beside the fountain, coughing and gasping,” (Hinton 56). This shows the reader Ponyboy waking up after trying to be drowned. “...Bob, the handsome Soc, was lying in the moonlight, doubled up and still. A dark pool was growing from him…”(Hinton 56). It is an experience of a lifetime to read a story in a book and watch the movie. The book and movie, The Outsiders, share many similarities and differ in equally many ways. S. E. Hinton narrated the Outsiders, and this high-quality narration was equally translated to the movie (2). However, they seem to vary in so many ways. This write-up examines the similarities and differences between the book and movie, The Outsiders, in terms of the plot, characters, setting, style, and theme.

Have you ever noticed in “The Outsiders” the differences and the similarities between the Greasers and the Socials? Well I will be explaining and showing why the Socials and Greasers are different and why they are the same. I will also be giving evidence supporting Ponyboys thought that Greasers and Socials are the same.

Stereotyping plays a large role in the events of S.E. Hinton’s novel The Outsiders. The two main opposing groups, the Socs and Greasers, constantly face problems because of the stereotypes associated with their social groups. As seen in the novel, stereotypes and prejudice cause extreme and unnecessary conflicts. Both groups have predetermined opinions of the other, but as the story progresses, many of the characters begin to realize how similar the groups can be. The stereotypes observed in the novel can easily be compared to those in real life. The Greasers and the Socs' Are two rival gangs who try to claim there place in a small town. Throughout the book and movie an interesting twist occurs, Ponyboy runs away and meets with Johnny Cade, they walk throughout a vacant lot and didn't expect to see the Socs' and their blue Mustang . This is when the interesting twist occurs one of the greasers called Bob had tried to drown Ponyboy and Johnny having no choice, killed him with a switch blade. The movie had quite a turn as it included different details.

There is a popular saying that “opposites attract.” The statement is genuinely correct and relatable, despite the fact that many poets, book writers, and even celebrities do not agree. Several claim that opposites don't attract, and that only alike things are attracted to one another. However, this is untrue - for example, north poles attract south poles. They are similar, but yet, very different. In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Johnny and Dally are attracted by their countless similarities and differences.

S.E Hinton’s, “The Outsiders” and Benjamin Alire Sáenz’s ,“Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” are two young adult novels with greatly different stories yet support the same ideology. Both works focus on the lives of two teenage boys, Ponyboy, of Hinton’s novel, and Aristotle, of Sáenz’s. The story of Ponyboy takes place in the year 1969, and focuses on a huge but short period of his life. It tells about his struggle as an orphan under the care of his two older brothers and deals with gang violence, socioeconomic status, and death. Whereas, the story of Aristotle takes place during the 1980’s and covers a long period of his life and involves his experiences with his relationship with his hands-on parents, his sexual orientation, and struggling with his awkward years. There are many conceptions of what is appropriate for young readers, but these two novels defend that young people should be informed. By examining “The Outsiders” and “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe”, this ideology of communicating mature topics to these readers is supported as the characters of both novels deal with the challenges of belonging, identity, and staying true to themselves, as well as reinforce the notion that adolescents can benefit from this knowledge.

While Holling needs space from his “man” of a father, Ponyboy is desperate for his parents to stay with him. The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton are two books that take place in the year 1967. The Wednesday Wars focuses on a boy names Holling Hoodhood living in Long Island with his business family and school troubles. Holling’s father owns a business, Hoodhood and Associates, and will do anything for that business. As Holling learns his father admires his business over his own son, he surprisingly grows relationships with classmates and teachers. Holling finds how similar life is to famous literature and you see him go from “no guts”, as his sister might say, to growing more than his own father. The

The “Outsiders” movie and novel are very different and similar. The book and the movie have some similarities. After really comparing the two there was a lot of differences.

In the short novel The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton, many 1960s stereotypes are used which separate the characters by where they live, how they dress, and how they act, but Hinton quickly gave characters who did not abide or fit these stereotypes. This showed that no matter your hair, dress, home, hobbies, or financial situation, everyone will always be different, but that doesn’t mean no two people cannot become friends. The stereotypes that follow you do not determine your personality or actions, only you.

Soc’s. Greaser’s. Two different groups who are just teenagers trying to find their way in life and who all have their problems. The book The Outsiders written by, S. E. Hinton, is based on a true story and how two different social groups interact. The wealthier, classier group with Mustangs and madras shirts are called the “Socs.” The less wealthier, greasy, slicked-back hair group are called “Greasers.” Both groups are stereotyped by society. Greasers are prone to crime and Socs are spoiled and can’t do anything wrong. The Outsiders has multiple themes, one is that loyalty between people can keep each other from getting hurt. Another is how the reputations people hold aren’t always accurate. Both play roles in changing the lives of the characters in the book.

The “outsiders” movie and novel are very fascinating. Both the movie and the novel have many differences.

Sammy Davis Jr. once said “You always have two choices: your commitment versus your fears”. This means you can chose to be scared and back off, or commit to face your fears without worrying about what the consequences or the result will be when you make this choice. This relates to the choices made in The Outsiders, because Johnny faces his fears face on, not backing off and instead, committing. He does this to save the ones who he most cares about the most. Correspondingly, the theme of The Outsiders is that committing and making choices that you may not like, may have a beneficial, long-term effect on the people around you.

From the start the novel is laden with the pressures that the main characters are exposed to due to their social inequality, unlikeness in their heredity, dissimilarity in their most distinctive character traits, differences in their aspirations and inequality in their endowments, let alone the increasingly fierce opposition that the characters are facing from modern post-war bourgeois society.
