In the movie “City of God” takes place in Rio de Janeiro during the 1960’s to 1970’s which is also based on a true story of some boys that were brought up in a poor neighborhood who ran the streets, murder civilians, steal , and sell drugs while doing other types of crimes. While these characters were doing crimes there is one type of character who is very important to the story who is named rocket while he grew up in a very low class place he ended up pursing his dream into being a photographer instead of doing crimes like his brother clipper who also advises him to stay in school and not be like him. In this movie there is a lot of theories that could possibly explain why some of these boys ended up to commit these crimes. The theories that would be explained is general strain theory by Robert Agnew, social control theories by Michael Guttredson & Travis Hirschi, Classical School by Cesare Beccaria.

In the first theory which is general strain theory which was thought of by Robert Agnew explains the reason on why people tend to do crime which is due to fostering of negative attitude about other people and the failure to reach ones goals which is best explained in the setting of the movie when the boys who were in a gang called the tender trio they grew up in a very poor neighborhood in Rio even the towns folk was also involved due to their condition.
