I have been exposed to social justice issues since I was young. Back in Vietnam, my father discussed with us a lot about political issues, like how people’s rights to express themselves are oppressed and that the government does not take care of its citizens and the corruption runs rampant in Vietnamese government. Throughout the time growing up, I have been familiarized with news about police brutality, unregulated toxins in food and other products that cause health implications, government’s slow reaction to natural disaster that affects people’s lives, and weak law enforcement on environment issues. These problems happen so constantly that I accepted it as a part of life and never thought any further than the fact that they exist.
Back then I did not know what social justice is, but it ingrained in me as I have been

My knowledge on social justice and social equality expanded when I went study abroad in the U.S. That was when I learned that these problems do not just happen in my country but also in a
Social justice is the combined effort of a society to promote liberty and equality for all of it’s citizens. To achieve this a society must speak up against injustices and social systems that promote injustices so that action can be taken to stop injustices and destroy unjust social systems in order to create a more equal and just society. As students we are already in a privileged position therefore if we choose to be socially just people it is our duty to study not only study in order to succeed for ourselves but to study how our future success could be beneficial to society as a whole. Our privilege gives us greater power to have an effect on society therefore we should do our best not to conform to preexisting social norms if we feel like they promote injustices. After we graduate we will have the skills to promote great amounts of social change and it is on us to turn away from unjust social systems and instead work for what might not be the most profitable but what promotes the most social
With more events disputing over a child’s enrolment in taking social justice positions learned in school, it is hard for society to decide whether social justice should be apart of the curriculum. Cynthia Reynolds, author of Maclean’s article Why are schools brain washing our children, explores the topic of social justice in our education system.
the sense of responsibility for each other's welfare, social justice can never be attained (Lewis, 2012).” This quotation by her simplifies my own idea of what social justice is about. I feel a sense of responsibility for other’s welfare and I want to work with people using the field of social work to achieve progress toward my own goal of social justice.
I am interested in the Socially Justice Coordinator position because I want to make sure that various voices are heard around campus. At a predominately white institution, it is very easy for the dominant perspective to be that of a white male, and I want to be a socially conscious coordinator to ensure that the voices of other people don't get muted out by the majority. I have a very personal connection to this goal because I am member of the minority group on campus ,being that I am a black female, so a lot of these issues will hit home for me and draw out my personal passion and commitment. Not only do I want to be a Socially Conscious coordinator to bring to the table some of my own experiences and ideas ,but I also want bring to light the perspective of others that I don't have a lot of have to first-hand experience with, such as members of the LGBTQ+ community, people who suffer from mental health issues ,other minority groups. I believe that it is important to show and represent the perspective of as many people that we can so that the students at the University of Georgia can gain a well-rounded perspective that allows them to be better stewards in this multi-cultural world that we live in. In order to achieve this goal, I will bring to this position my creativity to develop fun, engaging, and beneficial events, my knack of marketing to help spread the word of the socially conscious
Social Justice Society is always hesitant to accept change, regardless if it’s for the better. Social justice has become very important in today to ensure everyone is treated equally. Social justice can have multiple meanings, but for me its fighting for the equal treatment and wages for workers regardless of race. Cesar Chavez was one civil rights leader who fought this type of social justice. He fought for better treatment, wages, and working condition for farm workers.
‘Social Justice’ relates to fair distribution of every privilege we have to people and places that need it more such as, wealth, opportunities and privileges. Social Justice is definitely important to Australia as we need to help not just the people who are struggling on our streets. We also need help people that struggle in appalling conditions in countries, such as Cambodia. Thankfully, we have an abundance of non-profit organisation that help these developing countries, such as the New Futures Organisation. This organisation’s people are based in Takeo, Cambodia, they run an orphanage that cares for over 50 children and young people. They are also starting to develop a chain of schools to help educate people in remote rural villages. This
Social justice is a very easy value to live by. I believe that I train my classes fairly every day. I am training all staff at the hospital and
The week had been strenuous, yet productive. The multiple meetings with fellow organizations and countless hours of volunteer services depleted my energy. Add the hours of academic work, and well, I could never complain that my life was uneventful. On this eventful day, the Social Justice Fellows were holding our monthly guest speaker meeting. Although at the time I was feeling lethargic, the monthly meetings always gave me a boost of inspiration. I have an affinity towards academia and activism, but an even stronger affinity towards intellectual discourse. Which these meetings never left me disappointed.
Social justice is implemented by an individual or a conglomerate of individuals, who boldly question the injustices in society and advocate for social change. These individuals are eager to help others and have a genuine compassion for the welfare of all people without the biases that society afflicts upon diverse populations. People who generally are dedicated to preserving social justice are motivated through life experiences or witnessing acts of injustices, which inspires a person to deferentially pursue the humane approach. In short, their vision for a better society to keep focused on the victories along with challenges to overcome a faulty system through
Social injustice is an issue that can take on many forms. Social injustice is a problem worldwide. An example of people protesting social injustice is NFL players kneeling for the National Anthem. Many players decided to kneel but that was generally frowned upon and a lot of players stopped doing this. The first player to do this was Colin Kaepernick, Kaepernick said the reason he was kneeling was because “I am not going to stand up to show pride to a country that oppresses black people and people of color” (Wyche). He eventually lost his job over it. He said that he was doing this as a protest against social injustice, but eventually his original reason for kneeling was lost.
The term social justice is normally used when referring to the ideas of equality and providing equal opportunities to pupils within school, regardless of their background, history or circumstances. Views of social justice can change depending on who is discussing the topic.
Social justice helps us in creating human interactions in society and social institutions. These institutions can provide us with what is good for the person and for our associations with others. This happens so long as our institutions are
Social Justice is defined as “the equal distribution of opportunities, rights, and responsibility despite differences in physical traits and/or beliefs and behavior. It is an international and multifaceted issue that fights for better treatment and equality of people.” (“Pachamama Alliance,” 2017). According to this definition, my understanding of social justice is that it is a way to advocate for other individuals in order to assist their needs in society. For example, I would want to advocate for Hispanic mothers and children who have been through abuse. My empathy towards this group started because of my personal history with an abusive father who suffered from alcoholism. “Empathy involves thinking about a person and the challenges he or she is facing and coming to understand what it is like for that person to have that experience.” (Cameron & Keenan, 2013, p. 72).
Social justice is not an “us versus them” mentality; rather it is a “were in it together” mentality where the powerful and powerless work together. Obviously those who are in need are the poor and oppressed: women, African-Americans, Jews, Latin Americans, etc. However, due to the fact that these people are in these oppressive situations, they gain insight into the injustices that surround them specifically, and society in general. Although they are made poor by those in power and the structures, institutions, and organizations run by those in power, they still possess “strength to resist, capacity to understand their rights, [and the ability] to organize themselves and transform a subhuman situation (Boff, 1)”. The poor and oppressed are held above the rich and powerful, in other words are given preferential treatment. Due to their oppression in life,
Social sciences and social justice are both based on the structure of rights. Our rights were designed to create equality for all. However, there are always outliers in our justice system and these outliers can be seen by all. My background and demographic are aggressively average growing up in a small, rural community with little diversity which has affected my views about justice. The class Social Problems and Social Injustice has aggressively opened my eyes to new statistics about society and has made some of my intuitions validated and destroyed some of my prior views. My new understanding of social justice is that is was created for all by excluding some. Justice is the structure of our institutions and society.
