Great point, when it comes to pain patients may react differently to the same type of diagnosis. I work for a pain management physician who does spinal injections as part of a plan of care. Patients have the option to be sedated for the different spinal injections or nerve ablations. It’s very interesting to see patients that come in for the same type of injection or procedures and how they perceive pain. Some patients feel that it’s essential to be sedated for their injection and some patients are able to do the same injection without sedation. I’m very lucky to work for a Physician who is able to pick up on the patient’s perception of pain and is able to help manage the patient’s pain accordingly. He is great at exemplifying many of the

The patient will likely endure immense pain during labor throughout their series of contractions and continued dilation. An epidural injection is recommended to ease the pains of labor. The injection site is located in between the Lumbar spinal column, and will negate the pain signals from the waist down that would otherwise be sometimes unbearable to the mother.

Lumbar spinal stenosis is what occurs when the nerves in the lumbar area of the spine (the lower back) are pinched. Sciatica, which is the common term for pain in the legs due to a compressed nerve, can be caused by lumbar stenosis. It is mostly caused by degeneration of the facet joints, or the joints between vertebrae, in the lumbar area, which expand and press against the spine and “choke” it, hence the term stenosis, which comes from the Greek word for choking.
One problem senior citizens deal with nowadays is spinal cord injuries, spinal injuries are a severe issue, and can even be life-threatening, it is a dangerous obstacle that facing almost everyone at some point in their lives. I think Amy who is a medical student aware of if a broken vertebra pinches a spinal nerve, paralysis may result. The backbone is a column of vertebrae accumulated on top of each order to make a joint that begin from the base of the skulls to the tail bone. Each vertebra is hollow through the center where the spinal cord runs through; all these elements are something Mrs. Jones should know before agree for spinal fusion surgery. A spinal fusion surgery is intended to prevent the motion at a painful vertebral portion,

The patient is suffering from severe neck pain. The TENS is being used to decrease the pain is feeling in the neck and upper shoulders. The patient has a decreased range of motion in the cervical spine. Self -mobilization, and self-stretches can help increase the range of motion in the cervical spine. The patient has weakness in the cervical muscles but pain is elicited with added resistance. Since the patient is in a pain, starting with isometric contraction of the muscles will help strengthen the muscle without movent, provoking pain. Isometrics contraction is a good way to promote contraction of the muscle tissues, with lengthening the muscle. Ther patient C6 vertebrae is rotated to the right, which may contribute to the hypomobility
No two people/patients are alike. This is especially important to remember in healthcare when patients may have similar diagnosis, illnesses, or treatments. Even with similarities, each patient adapts and responds differently to their circumstances. Pain is a prime example of how diverse patients can truly be. One person may respond to pain with anger, be very vocal, whereas someone else may become
Intrathecal refers to region containing fluid enclosing the spinal cord. The pump is inserted below the patient’s abdominal skin and a catheter is stretched up to the level of spine from where pain is produced. The pump delivers constant flow of medication into the spinal fluid for effective results. It also reduces dose of medication to be administered and produce less side effects. Spinal pumps are preferred if conservative treatment fails or causes undesirable side effects.
Pain is the number one reason for delayed healing after surgery; even verbal patients can have a hard time making their need for pain management known. Pain is subjective data and can only come from the patient, therefore it is important that nurses make accurate assessment to make sure patients are properly medicated. Nurse has to make sure the source of information is reliable so the patient has to be alert and oriented. Even patients with mild to moderate dementia can be a reliable source for their pain. But sensory impairment has to be taken into account when weighing the reliability of the patient.
Jensen. Brown and McCormack (2006) suggested that patients and their families may benefit from pertinent information and education relating to analgesia in the pre and postoperative period.
In critically ill surgical patients, pain can be complex and needs integrated multidisciplinary approach. Proper
A 21 year old male patient was taken to the hospital after being involved in a one vehicle-motorcycle accident. The individual complained of pain in his lower back and suffered numerous abrasions and contusions along with loss of sensation and motor control in his legs. A complete neurological exam was performed in order to fully assess the patient. The exam revealed that the patient demonstrated nearly normal to normal strength in both flexing, extending the elbows, wrists, and when flexing his middle finger and abducting his little finger on both hands. It was noted, however, that he had no movement when medical personnel tested his ability to flex his hips, extend his knees, and dorsiflex his ankles. Stretch reflexes involving the biceps, brachioradialis, and triceps muscles were found to be normal, while those involving the patella and ankle were absent. Finally, the patient was found to have normal sensitivity to pin prick and light touch in areas of his body above the level of his inguinal region, but not below that region of the body .
