From a young age, I have been fascinated and drawn to camaraderie. I believe much can be gained from a community environment, not only from teamwork and a feeling of togetherness, but opportunities it provides to aid others.
I have always been very active in my local community. I am a member of several volunteer groups, from PAWS (an animal welfare organization), to my town recreation center youth program.
As a kinetic learner with vested interest in helping and nurturing others, the opportunity to learn through the Bonner Summer Fellowship greatly appeals to me.
People need people. This is something I firmly believe. A community presents many opportunities for education, both inside and outside of the classroom, as we learn from one another.
I believe in contributing to the community. I am a member of the National Honor Society and we do volunteer work for the school and through the community. It seems every other week there is an opportunity to volunteer in which I am eager to take part. In addition, as a Third Party Representative for a civics class called Project 18, I spend at least two hours a week emailing and calling potential guest speakers and creating PowerPoint slideshows that I will present. .
Every person deserves the right to experience a sense of community amongst people who share a common characteristic. A sense of fellowship amongst similar people allows a person to become more comfortable with who they are through interactions with others who are going through—or have gone through—the same triumphs or hardships. Without this feeling of belonging, one could be driven into insanity. Anxiety due to isolation and desolation could run rampant through a person’s mind because of the loneliness that comes with a lack of community—making it an essential part of a humanhood. By definition however, community invites inimitability. Community can be defined as a group of unique individuals with shared characteristics. From that a
In regard to community, I have volunteered for my clubs, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), BPA (Business Professionals of America), NTHS (National Technical Honor Society), Cross Country and others. From helping the club itself to representing the club through charitable acts, such as making christmas a little better for military families, or helping at assisted living centers. My parents taught me at a young age how to be a considerate
Communities play an essential role in the development of the self and learning about the stranger. Through communities, individuals are able to socialize and gain a greater understanding of each other. A community can be defined in many different ways based on every individual’s experience with it. Developing a strong community takes time. Some people, like Jeannette Walls, do not have the opportunity to develop strong communities throughout their childhood.
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I offered to volunteer in my church in the Vacation Bible School, Tiger Link Crew, Knight of Columbus, International Dinner, and Fall Festival. What I am most proud of doing is Vacation Bible School. I enjoyed being a part of the Vacation Bible School because it gave me good experience to be involved with children.
Community impacts our daily lives. It brings us together and it provides the support we need through tough situations. Every day we engage with our community whether it is with a person from the community or with service to help the community flourish. It is important to better ourselves as a community member or a neighbor because a community needs strong members to flourish. To become a strong community member, one must practice all types of altruism, give more than what is required, and work together with members of the community.
I participated in my schools Beautification Project by cleaning up the school grounds and surrounding area. I pulled weeds, planted flowers, laid mulch, picked up trash and painted. This was important to me because it allowed me to give back to the area I both live and attend school. I have baked and distributed cookies to families at the Ronald Me Donald House. I have also prepared snack packs for families at the Ronald Me Donald House- prepared bags with pudding cups cheese crackers, chips, granola bars and muffins. These were provided to families so that they could have access to a snack while at the hospital with their child. I have sort/packed food at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, volunteered as a community meal server and donate blood regularly. I also assisted with coordinating the blood drive at my
Outside of school, I am also active in my community. I am involved in many activities. For my church; Spring Baptist Klein Campus; I have been involved as a volunteer at Vacation Bible School for 2 years. I have volunteered for crafts both years because I like to be around children of
Moreover, I often volunteer to do service in my community. I have been doing volunteer work for Walk for Hunger since from 2011. Also I participate many times in school food bank, which school donates food to families who need help. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving them.
I’m interested in attending USNA Summer STEM because I have a strong interest in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I plan on attending the United States Naval Academy and graduate as a Nuclear Reactor Engineer and serve my country for life. I have made strong connections with the staff at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and want to make great connections with the staff, cadets, and shipmates I’d be working alongside with at the academy. I hope to serve my country with Honor, Courage, and Commitment in the STEM field of the U.S. Navy.
My family and I always try to serve the community where we can. When we lived in Colorado, I would volunteer at the Denver Children’s Home, preparing and serving meals to the abused and neglected kids that lived there. I also visited them again when I went back to CO this summer. More locally, I regularly volunteer at Living Hope Community Church in their cafe and nursery, serving coffee and supervising visitors’ children. My heart has always gone out to the less fortunate, and I find it hard to pass someone in need without helping.
Most of my free time is spent involving myself within my community. I volunteer at Celerity Dyad Charter School, St. Odilia School, church youth group, and cleaning my community. I enjoy helping out since I know I’m improving my community. These experiences have helped me develop skills of interacting with people from different cultures. I also involve myself at school with Cooking club, Delta club, Spanish club, Dance team, Folklorico team, National Honor Society, and Bachata team. I will continue being an involved person because I get to experience different places and people.
If I were creating a beloved community where I live, I would have more community gatherings to help
I want to restore the word community. I want to restore it to not a thing we want but to what we have. We live in a time where community is desperately needed and we should strive to restore it. So that is the heart of Sheard Humanity " we are here to restore community, we are here to show that we thrive together, we are here because it takes you and me to make a community." I want to create a place where parents can learn how to be better parents. I want a place where boys without fathers have a place to receive mentors. I want a place where young women know where they can get help if they're pregnant. I want a place that offers free counseling. I want a loving place for those who think there is nothing worth living for. This is achievable but it takes all of us.... will you share in helping to restore our
A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit both Boston and Providence on a college visit for my older sister. In Providence, we spent most of our time scoping out the campus at Brown on a very cold Sunday afternoon. While we were in a building attempting to warm up, my Mom found information on the summer courses for pre-college students offered at Brown. Although there were a variety of different programs to choose from, the Summer@Brown program stood out to me.
