Do you even wonder if there was another way to help someone who has cancer or an organ that is not working properly? There is one way that has had many controversies. This way is called stem cell cloning. This could possible create new organs and tissues. People are always waiting for a long time on waiting lists for an organ transplant and a lot of times they never get helped. This waiting could be minimized by having the tissue to fix the problem or a new organ to be transplanted. I agree with stem cell cloning because it uses cells that have not differentiated yet, using the research can help save lives, and can possibly be used for organ
There have been recent studies on animals where the scientist cloned the animals. Cloning is something many people are split on. Some say it is bad some say it is good. I think cloning is a bad thing. Cloning can be a bad thing in many ways. I will be covering some of those ways in this paper.
Recently the world has turned its attention to a new development in science, cloning. Cloning is defined as “the process of producing a clone” (Dictionary.com). This has become a big deal because the endless ways we can bring back extinct creatures. Such as, the extinct wooly mammoth, the Tasmanian tiger, and Quagga. With the endless ability to bring back animal from the past with DNA there comes a problem. With human DNA made available so easily science has come to the idea and process of making designer babies. A designer baby is a baby whose genetic makeup has been selected in order to eradicate a particular defect, or to ensure that a particular gene is present. A family gene might be a bad disease which a baby might get when born. Before this, cloning a baby was science fiction idea to people. It was never imagined or even thought possible, but now it is not. Scientist have already started to create ways to clone babies. With this comes the problem of how far should scientist go? This could be both a blessing and a curse.
There are many arguments against cloning. Leon R. Kass bases his argument on repugnance in his article The Wisdom of Repugnance. He is a well-known physician, educator and scientist. Kass perceives cloning as offensive, grotesque revolting, repulsive and wrong. To establish his argument he states, “Most people recoil from the prospect of mass production or human being, with large clones of look-alikes, compromised in their individuality.”1 His rationale is cloning is unnatural, because it is asexual and requires only one parent. Kass believes that cloning turns natural procreation into a manufactured process, which is not natural or moral. In his essay he also points out that cloning will also change the way we see ourselves through our
stem cells were discovered a long ago that they can be beneficial for fighting against the killer diseases but after passing of two decades of the discovery it has been profound that (hESCs) are being tried as a treatment for two noteworthy illnesses: heart fail and type 1 diabetes.
Did you know that there are people who decides the fate of the future? Who gives human beings the right to play God? To decide who lives and who dies. There comes a time where we have to ask ourselves, how much of our lives will we let the government control? Embryonic stem cell research should be discontinued because our future is being decided by regular humans who make several mistakes.
Embryonic Stem Cell Research are pluripotent stem cells derived from the inner cell mass of a blastocyst. I believe that the use of Embryonic Stem Research is beneficial to society because these cells have unlimited potential. They can allow permanent repair to failing organs by injecting healthy cells into the damaged organ. They also can used for finding and preventing cures for cancers, Parkinson’s disease, birth defects, spinal cord injuries, and strokes. However, Stem Cell Research is a controversial topic, especially when referring to Embryonic Stem Cell Research.
. However, embryonic stem cell research is also generally considered to have the greatest potential for delivering medical and scientific breakthroughs, since they are even more flexible (so to speak) and undifferentiated than adult stem cells (see Bongo and Richards).
Imagine if there was a way to cure juvenile diabetes and many other genetic diseases, well there could be a way using embryonic stem cells. The problem is that the stem cells are controversial, some say that scientists should not do research because the stem cells could potentially become a human child. However others believe that research should be done because, the stem cells do not have any psychological, physical, and emotional characteristics of a human yet (Lauren Joseph). Embryonic stem cells can be very versatile to cure genetic diseases and benefit us more than not using them at all.
As stated previously, embryonic stem cells are pluripotent stem cells derived from embryos. According to the NIH, “Most embryonic stem cells are derived from embryos that develop from eggs that have been fertilized in vitro” (Stem Cell Basics).Vitro Fertilization is a technique that unites the sperm and egg in a laboratory instead of inside a female. These stem cells are then donated for research with the donors consent (Stem Cell Basics). According to Michael Zawada and Karen Kalumuck, these cells are usually donated by those who have extra embryos. Then the cells are put in a dish where they replicate. The embryonic stem cells are then analyzed after six months of growth to see if they have differentiated or stayed pluripotent. If the embryonic stem cells have not differentiated, they are referred to as a embryonic stem-cell line.
or not it is ethically acceptable to study stem cells and their capabilities to further knowledge. Those who deem studying stem cells ethical, focus on the benefits that they can provide for people with diseases such as cancer and those who have permanent injuries. Those whose opinion is in opposition to stem cell research, support their claim by pointing out how taking an embryo’s stem cells kills it. There are are different arguments supporting both sides.
I am going against stem cell because it say it cure injuries and diseases but why haven't have doctors usd this to cure diseases? There isn't any real proof that says that they cure diseases. Anti-abortion groups also oppose research on stem cells derived from aborted fetuses. They reject the argument that since abortion is already legal and women will have them, that stem cells should be used from aborted fetuses because they would otherwise go to waste.Experience is already showing how a tragic coarsening of consciences accompanies the assault on innocent human life in the womb.
After reading over the articles this week it is easy to find both pros in addition to cons with stem cell research. The key and most important pro is the fact that stem cells can be used to treat and hopefully cure many diseases including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s ( (Linda K, 2016) By harvesting unwanted blastocysts from couples undergoing in vitro fertilization doctors are having significant breakthroughs curing diseases ranging from cancer to heart disease ( ("Myths and Misconceptions About Stem Cell Research", 2016) This is especially important since there are hundreds of thousands of people waiting for organ transplants; there aren’t enough human parts to go around ( (Abc news, 2016) The downside to these medical breakthroughs is the fact that a maximum number of stem cells are coming from embryos, which no matter if they are grown in a lab or not are still human beings. The California Stem Cell Agency reports that all their stem cells come from the blastocysts of unwanted in vitro fertilizations and not abortions. ("Myths and Misconceptions About Stem Cell Research", 2016) This is promising because if the unwanted embryos are just going to be disposed of it would be good to use them to help people suffering from disease.
Stem cell research ands it’s funding have caused a lot of controversy over past decades. But is the use of embryonic stem cell research bad or good for the humans? There are many religious groups out there that say it’s destroying human life and should be illegal and there's people that say it can help cure cancer and other diseases in the future that we have not even discovered yet. Stem cells can have the potential to turn into many different cells. They serve as repair system, dividing essentially without limit to replace cells. When a stem cell divides it has the potential of becoming a different cell or remaining a stem cell. Here are only a few religious groups that state if they oppose or agree with use of embryonic stem cells.
Pros of stem cell research is the fact that it can cure diseases, and possibly provide a cure for some cancers. The cons of the therapy is that it takes a life to do it.
Texas high school football player Joe Beene suffered a severe neck injury during an end of the season football practice (Hayes). This torment caused his whole body from his neck down to be paralyzed. Joe and his family who are from Odessa, a very religious west Texas town, are strong in their faith with God. After many long weeks full of different doctor visits, there was little hope of Joe every being able to walk again unless they were able to research embryo stem cells. The decision in the town as well as the country is split on this debate. Although the family is pro-life, they believe that this research is not wrong and may be the only way to ever get Joe back on his feet again one day.
