During my time with the Project Engage 2.0 program this semester I took part in four different activities. These activities, while being fun, improved my leadership skills, team building skills, and my critical thinking skills. The first activity that I was able to take part in was a stem mentor meeting. In this meeting my stem mentor went over some of the key components of the program. He then asked me and his other mentees if we were having any trouble with our classes so far this semester. The stem mentor meeting helped me improve my leadership skills by allowing me to be able to observe someone in a leadership position and learn from their example. Also, this activity helped me improve my team building skills by having me and a group of mentees form a team with a mentor. This forced us to have to work together as a team in order to survive the meetings. Lastly it helped me strengthen …show more content…
The Invention Convention was a high school science competition. This activity helped improve my leadership skills by having me assist in the catapult competition. It also helped me improve my team building skills by having me interact with teams from the different high schools. Lastly the Invention Convention helped improve my critical thinking skills by making me ponder whether or not these high school kids will succeed in life. The third activity that I participated in was the field trip to the Alabama Nature Center. At the center we were able to learn about nature. This tip helped me improve my leadership skills. I was able to accomplish this because we were put into groups to find small organisms in pond water and in my group, I took charge and led the activity. This same activity also allowed me to improve my team building skills for the exact same reasons. My critical thinking skills were also put to the test when the instructors started talking about how they transitioned from college to their
Keeping track of all my participation throughout the semester, helped me make sure that I was doing whatever possible to make sure that I pass BUSS 101. Throughout the school year I have been to many events that will help my participation grade.
Participated as a mentor and leader to incoming high school freshmen by supporting academic success and character development.
• Attending year level meetings and planning days where I have been able to cooperative and contribute to create learning experiences
Within my team we went to build boat for a boat regatta at a community center where we learned to work together we started from scratch with duct tape and cardboard and had to build the boat up to wear any size person could fit in it. The boat did hold soon as my friend got in it tipped and all the tape came out and the cardboard got wet but it was fun and helping the community out was fun to. We also started attended other school events to help support and show school spirit you can get with the wild west which is our school fan club you dress up to any theme from hawaii theme to super
By being able to lead others, I have learned that I would like to become a teacher. Working with different ages has helped me to decide that I would like to teach middle school. Participating in theater helped me to realize that I would like to teach stories to students, so I should teach English and Language Arts. Student Council helped me to realize my desire to lead others and help them reach a common goal, which I believe I can
While participating in these activities, I was able to gain insight into how to be a good leader and collaborator. Through committee work, I was able to focus the group's purpose and achieve our goals. Playing tennis has taught me the importance of team work and self-discipline as well as being resilient. There would be times during double tennis matches where we would be close to losing, but through strategizing and working together, we were able to overcome our opponents and defeat them. These lessons are not only valuable in working along with my peers, but they will also allow me to be successful in college and beyond. I will continue to participate in clubs and organizations because they offer the opportunity to meet new people and hone interpersonal and leadership
This summer I had an opportunity to attend the CORO Leadership program, which was different than the internship I had last year at the Jewish Community Federation. CORO is a eight week program that helps students become civically engaged and assume leadership roles in our community. Everyday we had a seminar day in which we learned different topics, such as how to give an elevator pitch, social enterprise and grant writing. For seven weeks, everything I learned tied up with the San Francisco cohort community action project because the skill sets we learned helped us organize our project. For example, our topic is homelessness and we had to invite over fifty people to our event. The elevator pitch came in handy when we had a minute to explain to a stranger what CORO is and what our goal for the community action project is. This was a good experience because this program enjoyed putting the students on the spot. I often had to work in a group to give presentations that we had about four hours to prepare for. For social enterprise seminar, my group was assigned the issue, homelessness. After four hours of brainstorming, we presented our idea which was to build more affordable housing. Although it was a long process, and many investors had questions for us to answer, at the end of the day my group won.
For example, I have had the opportunity to learn the importance of leadership and planning. This past summer I was asked to lead a direct mail marketing campaign which involved determining the mail population, ordering the required materials, and hiring the temporary help to execute the campaign.
One was the CN Tower Charity Climb which focused on training members to climb the 144 flights of stairs in the CN Tower as well as raise funds since each climber had to donate $100. It allowed me to grow as a leader because I was creating workouts, booking locations to train and fundraise, making posters and taking care of attendance. Being the founder also allowed me to support my passion for environmental initiatives, in a way that raised awareness for a fantastic cause. Additionally, I started the JFSS Amnesty International Youth Chapter which focused on writing letters to political leaders to make changes to their policies for the betterment of their
Other activities included selecting natural items from your back, front or side yard, looking and examining them closely with kind of like a jewelers lens and drawing basically a silhouette of which you have seen and appreciate how complex something so small can be. So, this camp has brought together all different types of skills, not necessarily for the classroom, but life skills, awareness of what is around you, learning to sleep in a yurt with 15 other people, learning to respect each other’s different needs and wishes.
One of the activities i participated in was the emerging leadership conference. This conference was a var of workshops that helped me see more aspects of leadership then just being dominant. I attended two workshops that helped me learn what characteristic are needed to become an effective leader. One workshop
Our group was more of a Cross-functional work group because we had different roles and representation. I find the class activities very interesting because it made me understand the importance of working
during this project I learned a lot. I learned how to balance out supplies and and cost. How the world of business kind of works by balancing out quality and quantity. I learned the real difference between wants and needs. Like how if we all had what we wanted whenever we wanted it there would be mass chaos.
Activities that I would like to participate in high school would be soccer, and Deca. I would like to be in these two activities because, I have played soccer since I was five and have been on the op team all my life. I spend a lot of time and effort into soccer and it’s always been something fun and extra for me to participate in. I would like to participate in Deca because, my sister has been in it for her senior year and she talks about it on a high pedestal and it sounds like a great high school opportunity. Also, Deac helps you better prepare for your future and debates and, or problems you will hate to face and discus in the future. I also feel as if these two activities will help me highschool because, soccer is my stress reliever and gives me something to do at school. Deca will help me prepare for m future and will not only help me in highschool but in the rest of my life.
I set up my classroom to encourage collaborative learning. Students will often work in groups, so they have opportunities to learn from each other. There are several activities
