While reading “The Story of Spain: Birth of the Spanish World” I found something interesting that is happening now with both Islamic and Mexican immigrants. As I was reading this section of the book, I was shocked that Jews were also expelled from Europe, as well as England in 1290 and France in 1306. Three months after Granada’s Fall, Fernando and Isabel issued an expulsion order for any Jew that refused to be baptized as a Christian. For some this was surprising because Jews had high status both culturally and economically. The same thing happened when the Nazis came to power in Germany in January 1933. They believed that Germans were “racially superior” and that the Jews, deemed “inferior” which made them an alien threat to the German Racial Community. In 1941, Hitler started the Holocaust in which he targeted all Jews as well as Gypsies, Poles, Russians, and even those that were disabled, sick, and old. He called this the “Final Solution” and it lasted until 1945. Hitler did this to keep everyone “safe” and “free from alien enemies”.
Now, we have almost the same thing happening with the presidency of Donald Trump. He is targeting illegal immigrants, and is labeling them as drug dealers, rapist, terrorist, and anything else that is considered to make someone a criminal. He has stated that Mexican immigrants are bringing more criminals into the United States and is using this to

I grew up not seeing my mother for days and practically was with my aunt all the time because she worked three jobs. As I started getting older she quit some of her jobs because she didn’t want me to grow up and feel like she missed out on a lot even if she had me living with her. She didn’t want me to go through what the rest of my brothers and sisters went
Restall, Matthew. Seven Myths of the Spanish Conquest. New York: Oxford University Press, Inc., 2003
Any student of history has come to recognize the fact that history is written by the victor and in lieu of this, research becomes essential to uncover where the truth lies. The True History of the Conquest of New Spain, so ironically named, is a personal account for historical events leading up to the conquest of New Spain, formerly known as the City of Mexico. The author, Bernal Diaz, was a soldier of the conquering army who composed the document well after the events took place sometime between 1552 and 1557. Though the document did provide insight in regards to the victor’s perspective, it also served as a tool to rewrite the account of the conquered people.
Victors and Vanquished, through excerpts of Bernal Diaz del Castillo, The True History of the Conquest of New Spain, and indigenous testimonies from the Florentine Codex, shows the exchange of religious ideas between the Spanish and Nahuatl religions. During the Spanish conquest and exploration of Mesoamerica, religion became a focal point in Spanish observations of Nahuatl religions. Influenced by European biases and a colonial mindset, the Spanish criticized indigenous religion by condemning their practices and idols. Natives, on the other hand, hybridized elements of Christianity into their respective indigenous religions.
The Spanish War was a war between Spain and the Cubans. The Cubans saw themselves to be an independent state instead of being controlled by Spain. They attempted to attack twice, but the first attempt was not successful. The second attempt started by a poet named Jose Marti, who wrote a book which organized a Cuban resistance against Spain, which many people based their opinions on. Opinions split in half because half of the people who owned businesses wanted Spain to support them in their investments, and the other side wanted to have their own liberty instead of being a commonwealth too Spain. In 1896, Spain sent General Valeriano Weylar to restore order in Cuba. Weylar sent 300,000 Cubans to a concentration camp which was the boiling point
I am doing research and a lot of study on the Spanish empire. The Spanish empire is a very important empire. The age of modern colonialism began about 1500, following the European discoveries of a sea route around Africa’s southern coast (1488) and of America (1492). With these events sea power shifted from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic and to the emerging nation-states of Portugal, Spain, the Dutch Republic, France, and England. By discovery, conquest, and settlement, these nations expanded and colonized throughout the world, spreading European institutions and culture. The Oriental land and sea routes terminated at ports in the Crimea, until 1461 at Trebizond (now Trabzon, Turkey), Constantinople Asiatic Tripoli Antioch, Beirut and Alexandria, where Italian galleys exchanged European for Eastern products.
While the conquest of the Americas caused Spain to find a “mountain of silver” which made them rich it also caused them to fall. While Spain did become rich from the conquest the silver which they came upon caused inflation because they forgot to increase taxes. This caused Spain’s currency to be worth less which caused them to fall into extreme debt. In paying this debt China, who the Spanish traded extensively with, came into quite a lot of silver. However China to fell to inflation when the government forgot to account for inflation, they also spent a lot of money on defense(Great wall) which caused even more debt. This is how the government of Spain caused serious economic problems for not just Europe and the Americas but Asia as
She wasn’t supportive of me in anyways and those were the years I needed her the most and no matter how many friends I had not matter how many people I knew could not fill how lonely I felt without the relationship I needed with my mother. I guess you cold say that that’s when my antisocial got really bad and I was dropping friends like rain in a storm and I didn’t want and umbrella to prevent it from weighing me down. My senior year my mother with my pleading and begging took me to a doctor because I felt like there was something wrong with me. I wanted to know why I felt the way I did and I wanted to know how to fix it because I was tired of chasing the approval of someone who would never see me as anything more than her adoptive disrespectful daughter. I wanted to know why I couldn’t keep friends. Why no matter how many people I was around I felt
During the 1930s, there were a lot of world events that influenced the history of Spain. For example, Adolf Hitler came to power, the holocaust began and the Spanish Confederation of the autonomous right gained power. This time is crucial for the history of Spain because these events led to the Spanish Civil War.
Almost 300 years ago to the day, a hurricane destroyed 11 Spanish ships off the coast of Florida. Now, this in itself would be a tragedy, but the vessels were part of Spain’s Tierra Firme and New Spain fleets, which acted as transportation for gold, silver, and other precious metals. The ships would often take these resources from the Spanish colonies in the New Word back to Europe.
When examining any culture, pieces of other ideologies and cultural normalities different than the foremost culture prevail, intertwining different cultures together. Spain, historically, has been known to be a passing point for a wide variety of religious groups. During the ancient world, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish peoples coexisted, each ultimately contributing to Spanish culture. Starting around 701 C.E., Muslim forces began to expand into areas around the Middle East, gradually broadening this land mass to reach Spain. Initially, Arab invaders were met with vigorous resistance; however, as time went on, invaders experienced little opposition, allowing them to reap city after city. Within the newly Arab-conquered cities, other religious groups faced little discrimination. Additionally, this conquest established the ever-present influence of Islam on Spanish culture. In this case, Spain adopted Islamic cultural innovations such as: forms of writing, religious aspects, architectural styles, and materials supplied for said architectural innovations. Trailing into the modern world, traces of Islamic culture are evidently intertwined into Spanish culture. Due to Spain’s rich history in interweaving cultures, it can be said that Spanish culture is intensely influenced by Islamic culture through the invasion of Arab military in medieval time, visually retaining influence through culture, religion, and architecture.
Although some may consider the fall of the Nahua and Inca empires an encounter of the Spanish, the meeting of the two cultures was a conquest because the Spanish brutally defeated and took over the indigenous cultures with the help of many advantages. There are three major factors which contributed to the successful conquest between the Spanish and the Nahuas, also known as the Aztecs, and Incas. First, the Spanish leaders had experience in forming alliances with indigenous people. Second, the Spanish had superior weaponry and military advantage, like steel, horses, and guns which made their weapons stronger and much more deadly. Third, the Spanish were physically capable of interacting with the indigenous people without suffering from
Spain ranks amongst the top five countries in the world with the fewest lives lost, yearly. This is due to fundamentally decisions that the government has sanctioned for the people to garner a better and safer way of life. Because of these decisions, Spain continues to climb the worldly charts yearly, while becoming a stronger and a more economically balanced country.
Spain is in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula and is currently ruled by Mariano Rajoy since December 21st, 2011. Spain is a sovereign state and a member state of the European Union. Spain is the second largest country in Western Europe and the European Union. Spain is Famous for their Bullfights festival of tomatoes and so much more. Each one of these things resembles a certain part of Spanish culture. Bullfights in Spain first started in 711-1492 A.D. Spanish knights would hunt the wild life of the Liberian, but most wildlife was too easy and wouldn’t help the knights with their pugnacious instincts. Although there was an animal who would rather put up a die fighting than flee like most animals,
During the Medieval Ages, the Iberian Peninsula was composed of different domains of which the north was occupied by the Christian kingdoms and the Islamic kingdoms in the south. The peninsula was a place of constant bloody war and sagacious politicking between kingdoms. The constant wars virtually made the sufferings and wailings of the common people eternal until two excellent monarchs of two contiguous Iberian kingdoms, heir-to-the-throne monarchs equal in beauty and genius, were united in a marriage ceremony that cemented the alliance of the kingdom of Aragon and the kingdom of Castille and Leon which became the primary catalyst of Spanish unity which will be instrumental in the rise of Spain as an empire and for a time a leading state in whole of Europe. These monarchs were Prince Ferdinand of the kingdom of Aragon and Queen Isabella of the kingdom
Spain has one of the most interesting cultures in the world. The culture that Spain has has influenced and shaped the modern world as we know it. Despite Spain being one of the smaller countries in terms of territory in the southwestern Europe, their history is shockingly different from that of the others around them. Spain occupies a large portion of the Iberian Peninsula. The land that Spain rests on has been sought after by many different civilizations such as the Romans, Visigoths, Moors, Catholics, and Arabs. Under the Spanish Empire under the rile of King Felipe II, who unified all of the Spanish lands and territories from the current day Philippines, to Italy, some of what is now Germany, Portugal and the Netherlands. During the nineteenth century, the most important parts of the Spanish history would take place with the loss of territories and the fall of the Spanish Empire. Following this, the territories that were lost gained independence. These territories that gained independence are what is now the Philippines, Puerto Rice, Cuba, and parts of the Americas.
