In the poem “Dear Basketball” by Kobe Bryant and the song “Someone Like You” by Adele, the reader learns that they can love something so much but know it's time to step away, this is shown through reminiscing about past relationships and past dreams as kids. First, in the poem “Dear Basketball” by Kobe Bryant, Kobe reminisces about his childhood dreams of becoming a basketball star showing his passion for the sport, thus, supporting the idea that you can love something so much but know its time to step away, just like how Kobe steps away in the end. Additionally, this proves how Kobe dedicated so much of his life to basketball, it seems so unimaginable that he could just step away. But it’s a message to all the other little kids out there, playing basketball in their room just like Kobe. That dedication and hard work can take you to places in your life where you’re satisfied with your accomplishments, therefore, you come to peace with letting go of something you love, knowing you’ve built up this journey since you were a kid.
