Exegetical Paper – Matthew 6:25-34
The Gospel according to Matthew is one of the main books that form the New Testament, it is actually the first book of the New Testament. It tells the story of how the Messiah, a Hebrew word meaning “the Anointed One” or a prophesied perfect king; identified as Jesus, is rejected by Israel and decides to send his disciples to preach his Gospels throughout the world. Mathew uses Mark as a reference throughout his gospel; however, he focused on Jesus’s teachings as much as his acts. The Gospel of Matthew differentiates from Mark’s Gospel, because Matthew goes back farther still, to show Jesus as the Son of God from his birth.
According to Albright, in his book Matthew, he mentions that some of Matthews’s themes in his Gospel are the generosity, humility, putting aside wealth or any other human characteristic (Albright, p. 81). In Matthew 6:25-34, the first paragraph mentions how we should not overconcerned about anything in this life, followed by the question “…Is not your life more than eating and drinking, and your body more than clothing…” (Matthew 6:25) Nowadays people tend to worry about many things, and usually these concerns are because they want to “fit” society; people believe that if they do not act, or wear clothes that are trendy, or simply if they are not doing what society wants, they are going to be left behind.
