The Evolution of the Phoenix Coyotes The logo started off as the Winnipeg Jets but was later changed to the Phoenix Coyotes logo, The Jets original logo was just the word ‘Jets’ in big blue letters on a white background. Later the logo was changed to stylize the writing adding a circle and a pictograph of a jet to the logo. The logo remained the same for a while but, was changed making the pictograph of the jet look as if it was flying out from behind the word ‘Jets’. After this logo the Jets relocated and became the Phoenix Coyotes. This was a total rebranding changing the logo in its entirety. The logo was a cartoon version of a coyote wearing a red hockey jersey and holding a hockey stick. This later changed to just the cartoon looking

“Coyote and the Buffalo’’ and “Fox and Coyote and the Whale’’ are folk tales told by Okanogan storytellers. They are myths passed down verbally from generation to generation explaining why the world is the way it is. Trickster tales are folk tales that includes an animal or a human character as a protagonist which represent the dual nature of humans. It teaches many lessons. The character has magical powers. Coyote is featured in both of these trickster tales showing similar and different contradicting qualities showing different characteristics like being greedy, disrespecting the dead, family structure, etc.
Thomas King's "The One About Coyote Going West" encompasses a Cherokee variant on Native Creation, the role of Coyote, the effect of white people on Natives, and a moral lesson classic to Native mythology. Also prevalent is the clichéd "don't fix it if it ain't broke" idea wherein matters of concern deteriorate when tampered with.
The Native American people have been apart of America ever since the “white man” came over from Europe. There traditions have been around for as long as they have been alive. They were the first people on the land we call home today. The Native American people have done more for this land than we have and we do not appreciate them at all for that. It is crazy how some people just blow them off like they are less than us and do not get anything special, but they do not also need to be disrespected in the public eye. Professional sports teams that have Native American mascots are used in a way that disrespects the people of Native American descent. It also happens at the high school level and gives the young adults with an biased outlook on the culture and history of these people. Any sports team name with an Native American mascot should have to change there name.
A new genetic observation suggests that red eastern wolves are not true in the "species" of wolves. Scientist say that red wolves are a mix of gray wolves and coyotes. Researchers compared the genome of 23 wild canines in the USA to pure coyotes and Eurasian wolves. This led to them figuring out how much of the animals genetic material came from coyotes or wolves.Red wolves have about 75 percent coyote genes and just 25 percent wolf genes. The new data mean that both red and eastern wolves have mated with coyotes in the past. Gray wolves also have some genes of the coyote. And eastern wolves and red wolves are just as closely related to gray wolves as they are to other animals of their species. That suggests these wolf groups are more related
In “Coyote Bait,” Brian Bedard narrates the story of a little girl who goes through emotional pain while watching her dad using their barn cat as bait for the coyotes. In this story, the author demonstrates that one needs to make great sacrifices in order to ensure well-being and safety of his family. Bedard illustrates this theme through setting, symbolism and characterization.
There are two legends that are often associated with the Chupacabra. In Chile, there is a creature known as the Peuchen. It is described to be a winged snake. The legend states that it is a shapeshifter, living hidden as a human, and then changing to ts winged snake state. Its gaze paralyzes its victims, so it can swoop out of the sky and suck their blood. It is thought that this legend derived from the Vampire Bat population in the area.
The myth of the Navajo Origin Legend was about people of a culture thinking that if they did certain things they would find It helped them. The women of the group washed and cleansed themselves. Rubbed corn meal on them and used different ones for each color of the corn. The gods would appear and bring corn feathers and buckskin. The wind forms the corn into natural human beings. They placed corn over the buckskin and laid it a certain way. The life of the wind turned the corn into humans.
I think tricksters are essential to any world belief system. Human beings work so hard at figuring out the rules of the physical and spiritual world! We create language, governance, religion, music, art … and they all come with rules and rituals, regulations, do’s and don’ts. The problem comes when we make our lives so safe, so predictable, that we lose our ability to innovate, to meet new challenges, to deal with the unexpected or tragic. A trickster like Coyote is the crazy, creative, inventive energy that gets us out of that rut and comes up with solutions that our rules won’t allow us to see.
Almost everybody loves going to sporting events and seeing all the excited fans as well as the energized mascots. There has been quite a variety of mascots and logos seen in schools whether it be high schools or colleges and in professional leagues. According to a search done by an ESPN FiveThirtyEight reporter through a database known as MascotDB, out of the 42,624 teams in the database at the time there were 2,129 sports teams that have reference to Native Americans (Munguia). That’s about a five percent of all mascots while Native American only make up roughly two percent of the population of the United States in 2014 (US Census). There has been much debate and controversy around mascots and team names that reference Native American throughout the years and gaining more attention especially with the most public debate regarding National
Also during the Party’s AGM, the party members decided to update the Party’s logo by replacing the Trillium with the bull Moose. Our members wanted to draw a further separation from the Big 3 political parties by having a symbol in our logo that was truly representative of the North.
Starting in the 1400s, the Native American tribe called the Dineh occupied the territories of now Arizona and New Mexico. In their language, Dineh means “the people”, in which they call their homeland Dinetah. They got the name Navajo from the Spanish so that they wouldn 't get confused with the Apache tribe, for they looked very much alike. The Navajo had a unique lifestyle and focused on art, religion, and farming. They had many conflicts with their neighbors and especially the United States Army. When they were relocated to different parts of the South, they had the integrity and unification to presume their traditions, especially their art and religion.
The Mexican gray wolf is a large predator that, in the past, preyed on livestock, which led to their near extinction by humans because they were tired of the wolves eating their livestock, they were a danger to people, and there were land use conflicts. However, the decline in the Mexican wolf lead to an overabundance of plant life which had a direct effect on other wildlife. There are many challenges involved with re-introducing wolves to other stakeholders such as to academics, mangers, ranchers, or landowners such as the reasons listed above which led to their near extinction. It is not as simple as taking the Mexican wolf from where they are now and placing them in different areas in Arizona, New Mexico, the US, and across the border in Sonora, Mexico. This is a very large area of land that policies would have to cover. The best ways to illustrate that the re-introduction of the wolves in the many expected areas is not as easy as it may seem are best described by nature culture dichotomy, social-ecological systems, and in the Anthropocene humans are seen as agents of change.
I was not born or raised in Phoenix Arizona. However, having lived here for almost a half of my life, I consider it to be my city. Phoenix is quite drastically different from my home country of Poland. The appearance, the culture, and climate, as well as the style, were all aspects that took some time for me to acclimate to. However, as the years went by, I came to love this alluring city for all of its beauty and uniqueness.
