For my case study I have chosen the Keep Dallas Beautiful, which is an extension of Keep Texas beautiful and Keep America beautiful. Keep Dallas Beautiful is an affiliate of theirs, which are volunteers or paid groups of people that help to bring together local clean up events, plan and put into action recycling programs, they also educate the communities on environmental issues (Keep, n.d.). This is a great sustainability case study because it meets the three sustainability pillars of environment, society, and economy. It is helping to keep the environment clean and makes sure to do their part in recycling. It encourages the community to do their part in beautifying the city and learning about environmental issues that they can help to alleviate.
Sustainable cities are an ecosystem with not many environmental issues. Some of the issues that are not present within a sustainable city are air pollution, mass population and excessive water and energy usage. A sustainable city does not have a negative impact on the environment. It has a small ecological footprint, which is the impact of a person or community on the environment. It would also have a lot of greenery, meaning a lot of vegetation and use renewable energy, solar panels and wind energy.
A case study is a puzzle that has to be solved. The first thing to remember about writing a case study is that the case should have a problem for the readers to solve. The case should have enough information in it that readers can understand what the problem is and, after thinking about it and analyzing the information; the readers should be able to come up with a proposed solution. Writing an interesting case study is a bit like writing a detective story. You want to keep your readers very interested in the situation.
Washington, D.C. is known for the White House, for Capitol Hill, all the monuments to great Americans and to historic moments. But there is a great deal more in the nation's capitol than politics and monuments.
Austin is the capital city of Texas, and is known by many as the live music capital of the world. It has both national and state historical roots; its culture is centered on the arts and entertainment. It spans 297.9 square miles, as of April 1st 2014 its population was 811,458 people. There are 344,289 households with a density of 2,653 people per square mile. As illustrated in figures 1 and 2 it is both ethnically and economically diverse.
Little more than a century after Dallas was founded in 1841, the population had exceeded 425,000 people; by the time another 60 years had passed, more than 1.2 million people resided within the city limits of Dallas. The population continues to grow, making Dallas one of the nation's fastest-growing municipalities. Such explosive growth requires housing for the residents and commercial buildings for new and expanding businesses. At Alpha Roofing, we help people in Dallas make sure that the roofs covering their homes and businesses can keep them secure. We install asphalt shingles, commercial roofs, metal roofing systems, flat roofs, gutters, attic insulation, skylights and siding. We also offer an extensive range of repair services.
A trading post built in 1838 on Spring Creek marked the arrival of American settlers in the area that was to become Spring, Texas. Within two years, the town of Spring had attracted more than 150 residents, most of whom grew cotton, sugar cane and vegetables. Located approximately 20 miles north of downtown Houston, Spring remained a quiet, small town throughout most of the 20th century. However, during the 1970s, Houston experienced explosive growth; many of the neighborhoods and suburbs north of downtown grew at an especially brisk pace. Today, the original town is known as Old Town Spring; Old Town Spring and the area surrounding it became a census-designated place within Houston's extraterritorial jurisdiction. Residents have easy access to Houston, but they can also enjoy shopping in historic Old Town Spring. Due to the area's mild winters and hot summers, residents can also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Unfortunately, the climate is also attractive to mosquitoes, so many property owners rely on MosquitoNix

The Sixth Floor Museum: Dedicated to the erstwhile President of the United States of America, the Sixth Floor Museum at the Dealey Plaza in Dallas n an interesting look into the life, work and death of the man who was one of the country’s most loved. The museum is located on the sixth floor of the former Texas School Book Depository and was established in 1898. The exhibitions at the museum include photographs, memorabilia and documents belonging to the President as well as those pertaining to his assassination. Temporary exhibits are hosted on the seventh floor. There is a café worth visiting as well.
Over the course of the semester, our class has learned about cities in the United States that have gone above and beyond to develop green government initiatives that benefit both communities and the environment. Although I initially thought I wouldn’t be able to find another city that even compared to those we have studied, I was wrong. The Portney (2005) reading identified Chicago, Illinois as a prime example of sustainable innovation, and as I worked through this project it became clear why. Chicago has identified the following areas as top priorities for their sustainable initiatives: Energy, transportation, economic development/job creation, water/wastewater, waste/recycling, parks/open space/water, and climate change
Nonetheless the projects were considerably fun and intriguing. I am interested in researching sustainability because I not only have experience but admiration for sustainability in general. I enjoy gaining new perspectives and new ways to organize infrastructure. In particular I want to research sustainable communities who meet energy demands and food security with the use of sustainable practices. I would like to examine how the results of sustainability in these communities reshape equality, environmental health, and human
Sustainability in other words, I would say it is the process in which it maintains the natural viewpoint and sustainable community, but it depends on environment and economic infrastructure which helps us in our living standard. My town is a sustainable town which is Sacramento. It is located in California, United States and it is very old city which is found in 1848 and named as Sacramento River, but after some time it changed to Sacramento.
The applied ethical project I worked on was, should I speak up and encourage the other units in my housing complex that do not recycle to start recycling, or is it not my place to tell them what they should or should not do? I chose this project, because I currently live in a house that is split up in to five different units and I encountered this ethical issue on a daily basis, as I continued to see the other people from the other units throwing away items that were clearly recyclable. The common area has two large recycling cans outside, right beside the regular waste trash cans, so they have the means to recycle easily, yet the waste trash cans are overflowing and the recycling cans are nearly empty, other than what my husband and I recycle.
Over the years Brownsville, Texas has been in the process of industrializing and coming up with ideas to do so. Recently, Brownsville has proposed to build a Liquefied natural gas, “(LNG) is natural gas (predominantly methane, CH4) that has been converted to liquid form for ease of storage or transport” (Project).
UVM, specifically Vermont, is the perfect place for sustainability and going “green.” UVM has taken many steps in becoming a top school for not only environmental education but a top school for sustainability as well. UVM is continuing to strive for climate neutrality and these efforts will continue well into the future. UVM’s efforts are inspirational to the community, students and the future of sustainability.
Along with a thorough enough discussion of anything comes the inevitable unearthing of its strengths and weaknesses. The Portland Plan has a number of strengths: it is comprehensive, well thought out, inclusive, and should ultimately lead to a well-planned and sustainable city. How in-depth the Portland Plan is, is a testament to its preparedness to face any challenges to lead the Portland of today into becoming the Portland of tomorrow, as any potential question that may arise is likely addressed within the text of the plan. The mercurial nature of the plan is to its advantage, as anything not addressed within the text of the plan does not render the plan obsolete, but rather may be simply found by finding the popular opinion of the
