October 20, 2017 Synthesis of Female vs Male Stereotypes
I will be looking at the two articles, What it means to ‘Be a Man’: How male Gender Stereotypes Try to Fit Growing Boys into a Mold, and Fail by Samantha Olson and the other article is I Want a Wife by Judy Brady. ’Synthesis is the combining of separate elements or substances to form a coherent whole. The combining of the constituent elements of separate material or abstract entities into a single, or merged unit (opposed to analysis,) the separating of any material or abstract entity into its fundamental elements. (http://www.dictionary.com/) The purpose of doing a synthesis easy is to build a connection, to make

They portray the female as a person who did the cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids while the men are doing the things they want going to work, going out with friends. Looking at the article by Samantha Olsen, it is about where we prepare boys to be tough, not to cry, suck it up if they get hurt or have their feelings hurt and to be a man at a young age. We can see how wrong this is in both articles because females are not a slave to their husbands and boys are not men and need to be able to feel what they want or need to at any age. In the first article, she uses personal experiences to show how men think of women as taking care of all their needs, as well as the children and their needs, also be able to fit in what her needs are while he does what he wants to do. In personal experience, I did not have this type of life we choose to do the chores and the other duties together as a family that works together to help each other not to put more stress on one or the other. In the second article, she writes about how boys are treated differently from girls. They are told if one of your peers also, need to be tough guys not to girls we are weak and emotional. However, the way we hit you hit them back that they are not supposed to cry, don’t act that way be a man about it, expect and teach boys to be this big masculine, macho, tough person. In which we do set up such boys who cannot handle the expectation to fail, and feel like they are less than they are or
Feminist: the person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. Sexual stereotypes are deeply imbedded into today’s society. Ideals of the gender roles are passed down from generation to generation, creating a gap between what is socially acceptable for a woman to do and what is expected of a man. One thousand years ago humans chose dominance by physical capability, simply because it was essential for our survival, but the world has evolved. One thousand years ago physical strength was the most important part of survival for human beings. Men in general are physically stronger therefore it made sense to have a man lead. The world humans live in has evolved and is no longer run by the physically entailed, but by the most intelligent or creative(Adichie). Though this world has evolved, the gender expectations and stereotypes have stayed the same. Sexual stereotypes in America limit men and women to abide with,by the expectations of masculinity and feminism, create a sense of shame for women, and create a gap in today’s job industry.
Through the media, American culture stigmatizes the way men and women act by portraying masculine men as only capable of being tough, unemotional, and protective; likewise, femininity envelopes nurturing, submissive, and unobtrusive characteristics. Though these stereotypes are different, the generalizations inflict the same social limitations towards men and women in personal freedom in employability and behavior. Modern American stereotypes stem from the beliefs of older generations, which define the socially acceptable standards of conduct of men and women. Despite recent movement towards more progressive beliefs in society, gender stereotypes remain stubbornly ingrained within the American culture.
The essays chosen for the portfolio were included based on which essays depicted the greatest amount of growth since the beginning of the year. This growth includes improvements in my control of language, the focus throughout the essay, and the quality of analysis. Therefore, the ineffective essays showcase repetitive language, an excess of informalities, a lack of cohesive argument, and analysis that is explained poorly in order to contrast more strikingly with the effective essays, which contain a more sophisticated grasp on word choice and sentence structure, as well as a clear argument that provides proper analysis. The synthesis essay was chosen due to the analysis that accompanies the sources as opposed to only summarizing the sources.
Another possible drawback hindering this type of research is the fact that testing for LSD is not as clear as testing for alcohol where results can quickly be obtained via a breathalyzer test. Standard drug tests which screen for other recreational drugs such as marijuana, do not usually test for lysergic acid, therefore it would be harder to determine whether a driver is under the influence of the drug. When under the influence of the drug, the pupils do dilate, however personal disparities in eye shape and size can distort the evidence and make it more difficult to determine whether a person has taken LSD or simply has the genetic trait of having larger than average pupils. Therefore, if a drug of these impeding characteristics were to
When the subject of eating disorders comes up it is mostly teenage girls or women that are put in the spotlight. People focus on the modeling and advertising industries by calling them out for the unhealthy image they create for young women, even though it is well known that most if not all their images are photoshopped. The implied message of most advertisements raising awareness for eating disorders is that women are the only one that suffer from them. Based on the visualization of two ads- one from dove encouraging women to love their bodies and the other from NEDA (National eating disorder association) for a helpline both the of ads help to reinforce the false belief, that women are the only ones that suffer from eating disorders. But one aspect that people tend to overlook and that has not come to public attention until just recently is the rising number of cases in men and adolescent boys
Thank you for saying such nice things about me, and boy, do I ever appreciate that you read my whole profile and expressed acceptance anyway before you reached out. My nerves are on edge as it is being here on this site and it did not help that the first couple of responders pegged me as a transgender more than the single white woman I identify and portray myself as. It is because if you want to know the truth, I quite honestly forget I wasn’t born that way, and would like to avoid being reminded every five seconds to stay in my blissful ignorance. However, I could never lie and feel being upfront should save misunderstandings. Furthermore, it is hard to determine this early on if it is possible or not to separate gender companionship from
Gender is an identity based solely on how an individual is evaluated by society. Individuals adopt social expectations for gender norms and behave accordingly. Gender is similar to race and social class in which you can socially classify a person. Also like race and social class, gender can also to lead to discrimination and prejudice. Based on social construction the view on gender looks far past classifications and categories. Society scrutinizes the nodes of several characteristics and observe the thin lines between essentialism. Sex is more of an ascribed status. Its social roles and expectations are based on genetic and biological behavior. Social construction strives to find that thin line between the male and female which are so often acknowledged as essential. Describing one’s gender is never relatively stable. An individual is always deviating or coinciding with the socially conventional form of stereotypes based upon gender. These performances normalize the essentialism of gender categories. As
Writing is an art that has been around for a long time. It has seen numerous disputes and changes over time. Numerous works have been published, some under names that aren’t even real. These names are called pseudonyms, or pen names. They have been around for many reasons, such as the fear of being discriminated against, to disassociate themselves from their name, or so that they can appeal to a target audience.
The disrepair of our society is evident through the observation of a select few individuals. These individuals feel entitled to choose their identities, in gender and sexuality. These dissenters feel as if they deserve reimbursement for our inability to accept them. They believe that, due to their regard as outcasts, they are unable to pursue a whole and happy life.
You are such a good cuckold phone sex boyfriend. I love the way you sit there with your nose pressed against the shower door as you watch your sexy wife shower. Once I’m out of the shower you eagerly dry me off and lotion me from head to toe. I see that you have laid out that sexy lingerie set that you got me for our anniversary. We both agreed on my wearing that sexy dress, the one that hugs my body in all the right places, knowing that it makes your cock swell to see me in it. While we finish getting me dressed, putting on makeup, and other finishing touches, you beg me to tell you where I am going and with whom. You know that is against our rules so I just continue to get ready for my night out. You try asking for a final time. I look at you lovingly, kiss you on your forehead and tell you, “None of your business.” I stroke your face and say, “Now, what I expect is for you to be sitting here waiting by the door, like a good boy, when I get home.”
Once again, she finds herself in the middle of a crowded high school hallway, surrounded by strangers on all sides. Girls glare at her as if she was an enemy. She probably is, considering she is the new girl entering their school from somewhere else. Guys stare at her like she’s fresh meat, which she is. Some of those guys stare at her like they want to hunt her down, as a predator does to its prey. She keeps on walking down the corridor, keeping her head down with her hood covering half of her face. Having her earphones on and just listening to music, pretending as if they didn’t exist.
Stereotypes not only pertain to commercial television but are also found in music television clips. In a study done by Rita Sommers-Flanagan, John Sommers-Flanagan and Britta Davis exploring gender role and content analysis of music television (MTV) in 1993 “results included the following: men appeared nearly twice as often as women; men engaged in significantly more aggressive and dominant behavior; women engaged in significantly more implicitly sexual and subservient behavior; and women were more frequently the object of explicit, implicit, and aggressive sexual advances.” (Sommers-Flanagan, 1993) The woman has been degraded to the weak sexual objects with only the power of their sexuality, and the men remain the more dominant powerful gender.
I feel much the same you as you do about this subject. Perceptions concerning women have changed drastically over the past 100 years but there are still people that cling to gender stereotyping. I whole-heartedly agree with your comments and especially with your closing comment that “with time and an open mind” we will see that the effects of negative cultural stereotypes concerning gender will continue to decrease and eventually be eliminated.

How women are perceived by others, and how women perceive themselves, impacts their leadership roles in the work place. Stereotypes and gender biases are themes women have been dealing with for centuries. How women are perceived by social medial and television have been influencing how they are treated by men, and how they view themselves when it comes to taking a leadership role in their organization. According to Omega Institute (2012), “The rapidly shifting landscape of new media and technology, including reality television and celebrity culture, continue to reinforce gender stereotypes” (p. 1). This leads to men still growing up viewing women as home makers versus bread winner. With more women entering leadership roles in the work place they lack the respect from men due to how these men have grown up to know the typical role of a man and woman. Men tend to feel belittled due to the gender stereotypes seen on television, and this leads to women struggling to succeed as a leader with the lack of support from their male counterparts. Lack of confidence with women in the workplace is also influenced and effected by how women are perceived in social media and television. According to Steele (2005), “Exposure to stereotypic commercials persuade women to avoid leadership roles” (p. 276). As young women grow up seeing the typical gender stereotypes they lack ambitions to break the mold and
