In 2011, my aunt Tami was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. She had many surgeries, MRI’s, and CT scans. She also had countless rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. To help pay for the hospital bills that come along with severe cancer cases, my family hosted a benefit in Tami’s name, and started a GoFundMe page. Hundreds, if not thousands of dollars were raised to help Tami and her husband, Kim, pay for everything necessary for her survival. After surgeries, radiation, and chemo, Tami was in remission; but not for long. They soon found another questionable mass in an MRI. It was tested, and came back positive for cancer. Only this time, it had taken over her body and brain. Because of it, Tami was finding it hard to speak and walk.
cancer is the enemy. cncer kills over 20 thousand people a day occording to global report. this terrole disease is so common 12.7 million people a year find out they have cancer and of that number rouggly 7.6 million die. cancer being the leading cause of death world wide has led to several fundraisers to support our courageous fighters. a fundrauser i have been lucky enough to participate in is a 5k run/3k walk. i was 13 when i partocipated in my first 5k run/3k walk in stuttgart germany for a light the night for all kinds of cancers. pervous to the fundraiser i was sadly told my cousin who was just a baby at the tome had been diagnosed with luekimia. immediately i wanted to help, i began by spreading the word around my school and having my friends buy tshirts titled
I couldn't bear it. When my father pulled up to the curb, I quickly kissed them both good-bye and jumped out of the car. I was just about inside when I heard a funny sound that sounded like my name. I stopped in my tracks and turned around. There was Suzy, standing up outside the car on wobbly knees, wig slightly askew. With her arms outstretched, she said gently, "Good-bye, Nanny, I love you." I hugged her so hard I was afraid she might crumble. And then I ran to catch my plane. I never saw my sister alive again. After nine operations, three courses of chemotherapy and radiation, she had lost her three-year war. By the time I flew back to her side it was too late. She was gone.” Nancy founded the Susan G Komen foundation to save as many people from going through what her sister and her family went though. Susan G Komen foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer so that there are no more sad stories like the one you just heard me tell about Nancy and Susan. The Susan G Komen foundation has come long way and has had a huge impact on the fight against breast cancer, I support them and I know they will never give up until we find a cure for breast cancer, and neither will I.
Each year, approximately 12.7 million people are diagnosed with cancer and unfortunately that number is not decreasing. My sister, Caitlin, was a part of that statistic 12 years ago, and to say her Ewing’s Sarcoma changed not only her life, but also my family’s would be an understatement. As a child, witnessing the deterioration of my sister’s health and the my family’s normalcy ultimately shaped me into the person I am today; a person that welcomes change with a resilient nature built on a foundation to never quit. I am blessed to say that my sister is flourishing and her cancer has been in remission and upon meeting her today, one would have no idea she ever endured such a relentless disease. Nevertheless in the past two years, my mother
Mrs. Sheena a 69-year-old religious Jewish lady, admitted in internal medicine ward with abdominal pain and intestinal obstruction. She was diagnosed with breast cancer that had metastasized to the liver and bone. She was treated with a combination of anticancer drugs without response. Her family consisted of five children, four of whom were married with children and grandchildren. One of the patient's daughters, a 37-year-old single woman, had been diagnosed with stage II breast cancer. After a lumpectomy, she refused chemotherapy because of her desire to have a child. She only told her oldest brother about her illness; it was their secret. Mrs. Sheenaâs mother and two of her sisters died because of breast cancer.
Having survived this physically draining, highly emotional crisis, I would make it a point to be involved with anything remotely related to breast cancer. Walks, donations, attending groups that have gone through what I did. This really took a toll on me, my family and I just feel blessed to be here to tell about my bout with cancer. Currently, I am eight years in remission and I am still on the recovery
I would like to introduced Susan G Komen and Nancy Bricker. These two girls are sisters and they are also best friends. Susan got diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 33 and lost her battle at the age of 36. Before Susan had passed Nancy had made a promise to Susan that she would end the terrible fight of breast cancer. Nancy her sister said this, “Her journey began with a simple promise to her dying sister, Susan G Komen that would do everything possible to end the shame, pain, fear, and hopelessness caused by this disease.” (Brinker, 2016) Nancy tried her hardest and during that trying period she created a foundation which is called the Susan G Komen Breast cancer foundation. Which was created in memory of her loving sister. Later
Cancer is a worldwide issue that has taken the lives of numerous people we know and love. These cancer patients went through more than just the health issues. They went through many sleepless nights, day after day of not feeling well, and the pain of all the treatments that followed. Each person went through more financial burdens than any one person should have to go through. They went through much more than anyone should ever have to experience. There are thousands of different kinds of cancer out there today, but one thing that all these cancers have in common is the fact that they all cause significant financial burdens, which should not be an issue. Not even one of them is easy to go through nor is it easy for one to have to get up and
Ordinarily, I don't share financial concerns, but this story moved me. Sherry Kendrick is terminal with stage 4 lung cancer which has metastasized to her bones leaving her with a life expectancy of a couple months. This gofundme is for future funeral arrangements. If you could please find it in your heart to donate a couple of dollars, her family would be very appreciative.
For this assignment I decided to critique a website from the topic breast cancer. I started my search by typing breast cancer in the google engine. I then clicked on page eight until I found a website with a .com. I clicked on the article about breast cancer, then went to website the article was provided by. Critiquing a website can be difficult do to constant evolving of technology. As a result, the accuracy of a website need to be updated continuously. To ensure that your website is . I evaluated the EMedicineHealth website using the Evaluating Internet Research Sources from Robert Harris (Harris, 2010). This consists of an acronym for evaluation CARS (credibility, accuracy, reasonableness, and support). It was with this tool
Breast cancer is a type of cancer where a malignant tumor is formed in the breast, which continually grows and infects the surrounding tissues [1]. This type of cancer is the most common type of cancer found in women. On average about 26% of women developed breast cancer in 2015 [2]. There are multiple signs and symptoms that can help one become aware if they have the disease. The most prominent key feature is the presence of a lump in your breast or armpit. Such signs may be indicative of breast cancer. In addition changes in the breast and the skin around it are also good indicators. So if the skin around your breast as well as the surrounding nipple becomes puckered or dimpled, it is recommended to go and consult a physician. The inverting or crusting of the nipple may also present as symptoms. However, these are all early onset signs. If the cancer has been in your body for a longer period of time, one might experience things such as bone pain, nausea, weight loss, shortness of breath etc. This is usually an indicative point that the cancer has spread to different parts of the body. If the cancer continues to persist in the body without treatment, it can result in various detrimental effects. The symptoms one may already have are likely to worsen with the addition of new symptoms. Though every cancer differs in its effects and symptoms, the ideology behind it remains the same in that the body is unable to control cell division. Therefore, the cancer will continue to grow
Breast cancer is a serious condition and takes many people 's lives each and every year. It accounts for at least 18.2% of cancer deaths worldwide.1 In society today, women are more focused on what appeals to men, rather than worrying about their own health. “If only women paid as much attention to their breast as men do” is promoted by National Breast Cancer Foundation. 2 The message that I took from this PSA is the notion that women do not pay enough attention to their bodies from a health standpoint. Men are seen paying more attention to our breast than we do. Being educated on pre-screening techniques, signs, & overall education about breast cancer could help increase awareness and decrease incidence rates3. Women need to stop obsessing about self-image and start focusing more on their overall health. Breast cancer is a serious invasive cancer and if we paid more attention to it then the better prepared we will be in the future. This lead me to find two studies related to Breast cancer awareness. The two studies look at different groups and measure and evaluate their knowledge of risks & symptoms, pre-screening techniques.
During clinical this week, the concept of quality of life vs. quantity of life was something I began to ponder. It all occurred during a breast biopsy for my one patient T.M. As we waited outside the ultrasound room, she began to share some information regarding her condition and health history. She mentioned that she’d lived the majority of her life with lumps in her breast. After her Dr. told her all the lumps were benign 20 years ago, she neglected to ever get her breasts checked and examined after that knowledge. Little did she know that 20 years later, she had developed stage 4-breast cancer in her right breast. As we sat outside the room, she stated she was unsure if she even wanted treatment and whether or not it was worth it,
This paper talks about the discovery of cancer cells, and how different doctors and physicians have tried to get a better understand of it over the centries. The causes of and treatment plans as well as trying to prevent cancer. Breast cancer, happened to be the first cancer cell discovered, so this paper is going to concentrate specifically on breast cancer. It will talk about the different treatment plans that can be considered as well as ways to prevent breast cancer.
Breast cancer is a condition in which cells in the breast expand out of control. There are several varieties of breast cancer. The kind of breast cancer depends on whichever cells in the breast transform into cancer. Breast cancer can originate in various parts of the breast. A breast is manufactured up of three main parts: lobules, ducts, and connective tissue. The lobule maintains the organs that generate milk. The ducts are tubes that transport milk to the nipple. The connective tissue is which consists of tough and fatty tissue that encloses and holds everything unitedly. Most breast cancers originate in the ducts or lobules. Breast cancer can originate outside the breast within blood vessels and lymph vessels. When breast cancer expands to additional components of
Background: The issue of breast cancer affecting many individuals is a growing one. At the present time period it is now found that one in every eight women will be told they have breast cancer (“National Breast Cancer Foundation”, 2012). Therefore there is a significant amount of research going into this area. In addition, to the large amount of women and smaller amount of men who will be potentially diagnosed with breast cancer has become a global burden because those with metastatic cancer will eventually have cancer cells travel to other parts of their body (“National Breast Cancer Foundation”, 2012). MCF-7 cells are commonly used to study the mechanism of action and how the tumor works for human breast cancer (Osborn, Trent& Hobbs, n.d.). These types of cells are the most common in laboratories for cancer research. According to C. Osborn MCF-7 cells are used because they typically “demonstrate similar morphology”, however the chromosomal structures can be different. Thus leading to varied results. In addition, Osborn states that MCF-7 cell lines will usually have estrogen receptors, and progesterone receptors. The amounts of estrogen and progesterone receptors can affect the proliferation of the cells. (Osborn, Trent, & Hobbs, n.d.). Therefore, the experiment will be using cells taken from a sixty nine year old patient with metastatic cancer.
