Technology has rapidly advanced around the world year by year, and it ultimately is taking an impact on our brains. Whether we like it or not, we can all agree that there are bad impacts that it has on us, but there are also so many good things that we can take from it. Knowledge and technology are linked because without digital technology we wouldn’t have advanced knowledge and vice versa. Knowledge is in every part of our brain but technology affects how we use it in our daily lives.
Digital technology is able to spread information rapidly throughout the world which allows people to gain knowledge. In “What does it all Meme” Sam Leith states, “With the internet, we can document and witness ideas spreading at rates that we never saw

It’s up to us the people to use digital technology in a more useful and helpful way, and not just for entertainment purposes. Continuing this further, digital technology and knowledge link because now we are given more options on how to research information. Ursula Le Guin states, “having 2 ways to get books is a good thing for now” (Le Guin 162). With the use of e-books we are not required to take a trip to the local library. In the past if we wanted to read a book for research or read one for leisure we would have to go out of our way to the library. We can now simply order a book directly on our phone. Digital technology in the form of an e-book lays the platform for knowledge being learned without the hassle of going to a local library.
There are also loads of encyclopedias on the internet which help us expand our horizon. With online encyclopedias we are able to quickly search for a topic with the given toolbar. With a hardcover book we are forced to search through information to hopefully find what we were looking for. Searching through a book for information can get frustrating especially if the information we are looking for isn’t there. With quick search methods given in the online encyclopedia it doesn’t make us want to go do something else and gives more time to gain more knowledge on a specific topic. On the other hand, digital technology and knowledge link because digital
A huge beneficial effect of the Internet is time-efficiency because it no longer takes days to find research. Fortunately, it only takes a couple of minutes to do a few Google searches. Another benefit to the Internet, in comparison to the last example, is that it is a channel for most of the world’s information. For Carr, as for others, the Internet is becoming a universal medium. Lastly, it is probable that we may be doing more reading today than we did in the 1970s or 1980s, when television was a choice of interest. It is assumed that we may do more reading today because not only do we have access to a variety of texts, but also a numerous amount of ways of communicating. For example, social media accounts and text-messaging. A negative effect of the Internet is that it is chipping away capacity for contemplation. The Internet is
Technology has helped people become smarter, it has given us access to limitless amounts of information in a matter of seconds.
The greatest factor of technology making us smarter, is the use of it to collaborate with not only the computer itself, but with each other. The use of technology is bringing people together from all over the world. With all the minds in the world working together the possibilities are endless. Technology brings us many methods of collaborating with each other, such as, social medias, news websites, and
The internet makes people to be more dependency. It makes people to observe more information, and to be tended to find information. People relay more in finding information in the internet today. Furthermore, people are physically involved as they try to think and find information from the internet. The internet may have small effect on people, but still it helps people.
Carr said “What if I do all my readings on the web not so much because the way I read has changed. i.e. I’m just seeking convenience, but because the way I THINK has changed?” (Carr, pg 7). Since the internet has come into play people have stooped reading books because is easier to just google what they are wanting to know. The internet can change the way someone can process the information on a screen than in a book and how much is actually being consumed by the person. Not only is it changing the way we understand but every technology is an expression of the human will. This allows us to reshape nature to better serve our needs and desires. The internet has the greatest power over how and what we think
After reading the article “Literacy Debate: Online, R U really reading?” by Motoko Rich, I believe that the internet is very beneficial in many ways but I also believe reading books is important at certain times. As being a teenager the internet has become a far better source when it comes to research. The internet is very quick on answers unlike books where you have to flip through pages for an answer to a simple question. Now why would someone choose to do more when they can do less with a simple click of a button? The internet is very useful; without the internet we wouldn’t have been able to have the opportunity to have this discussion here. On the contrary, the internet might be much faster with information but it is not always reliable.
Many people argue that technology has made information from printed sources more available. “We can all come together immediately, live, in words or pictures, thanks to the power of cell phones, computers, televisions, and cameras. The way we socialize, learn, plan, and
On websites, such as Facebook or Twitter people from all over the world can communicate daily through both websites. On these websites people, can also keep up with current news and trending topics. Without the internet, it would be very hard to see photos or videos of the topic at hand. I came to notice that this is something Carr does not mention in his article. Almost as if he is trying to avoid the points he knows to be true. In 2017 the internet is just a treasure chest of information and any generation which would have access to a server with that much information would no doubt use it without question, just as we are. We can have real time conversations across the globe with billions of people all at once, getting points of view that were previously
Our world gets more digital every day. Nearly everyone has a smartphone and a computer. Even more people have a TV and if people do they are in contact with the digital world everyday.
Even though it is true that reading on real papers will help the readers pay attention to the contents than the screen and they can “practice an unnatural process of thought” (219), the writer overlooks advantages of e-books and other online information. Reading on pages is utterly better than reading on the screen, but carrying printed books is more inconvenient than carrying a laptop which can access numerous e-books. In addition, not everyone can afford printed books. For those people who need a lot of books, especially students, e-books and other online sources are rather economical and reasonable choices. And another great thing of it, on the internet, information is updated continuously, whereas printed books might be out of date and the readers have to buy new editions. Moreover, internet is a chance for people over the world to reach the book they need, because there is not every book are translated into other languages, or the original ones are not be transferred to their countries. With these benefit, printed books has become difficult to overwhelm the
In the Articles “I Tweet, Therefore I Am” and “How Computers Change the Way We Think”, Andrew Lam and Sherry Turkle talks about how technology and digital tools has tremendously changed the way we think and the way we live our lives. They elaborated on the good and bad things that technology has done for us and also the disservice it has done to our society. Digital tools are beneficial for individuals and our society because of how digital tools allow ordinary people to be journalist, because of how it allows people to be Avatars online, and because of how it can give people an opportunity be famous and make really good money.
We all know technology is a good thing, right? Or is it? We can all come up with reasons why technology is helpful or appropriate like we can for a particular medicine. And while some drugs are really great to cure or prevent a disease, sometimes the side effects outweigh any possible benefit. The same is true with technology. Some common negative side effects of technology are kids playing on their phones instead of going outside to play or young people not interacting face-to-face as much as they used to. Parenting is an area that has suffered since the rise in technology, specifically with phone use.
First, technology has made us more dependant on the internet and others when we want information. An example of this being myself; When I had been asked a question that I didn’t know the answer to and I had thought that the internet would have it, then I turned to the internet without even consulting the other options because I had considered them more work. Work that I
Some people think technology promotes communication and gives more access to information. People are able to obtain information in various ways. Digital technology communication helps people overcome geographical barrier so that they can enhance efficiency and make an contact.
During the development of technology, most people have shifted to use electronic books to read both academic and non-academic texts. However, despite the technological changes, there has been a wide debate about the benefits of paper books over the e-books. It is important to understand that various reasons are suggesting why people should shift back to using the traditional books rather than the electronic ones. Even though some think that e-books are better that traditional ones, I believe that readers should return to traditional books because of various reasons.
