Technology is all around us, no matter where we look it’s there. That alarm clock with the worn out snooze button, your phone, the TV you have but don’t use cause you got netflix and so much more! Technology is constantly changing, growing, evolving. There’ll be an Iphone 7 one day and the next week the Iphone 8 will come out with bigger and better features. It has become a big part of our lives, especially for the younger generations, millennials and so forth. We witnessed the technological evolution and it has now become a part of our identity. However for some, they find technology revolting or as plague that has struck society. Technology is great it gives us more opportunities in a professional aspect, it’s capabilities are beyond what a human can do and some people may disagree but technology has many features that help us.

In today’s world, many people believe that technology’s sole purpose is to draw young people away from the real world and reality. Just because you do not realize it, it does not mean it is not happening. If you think back to when you were younger, was technology the same as today? In this era we are a technology advanced society, being only 22 years old I have seen many technological advances. Growing up I had access to T.V., when I was younger I remember going to my grandparents’ house and they had back and white T.V. When I hit middle school I given my first cell phone it was a flip phone that had no games on it. In my house we had the big box T.V. with a VCR box and the huge computer with the big monitor; we not call it the dinosaur computer because it’s so outdated. We grew up in the age of transition. Our childhood previously consisting of jumping rope, going outside, and playing in playgrounds quickly changed into something more technological. We watched handwritten letters became electronic, film became digital, a huge corded phones become small computers in our pockets. Now we are becoming dependent on these new technologies.

In the first chapter of “Technology: A World History” it discusses the first technologies early humans use of tools beginning with cobbles. As tools developed it changed the lives of these early humans. The ever changing technology helped them create more complex tools for hunting, gathering food, protection, erecting shelters, preparing meat for cooking and eating. It allowed them to move around to colder climates. When they went from foraging to farming and eventually settle into one place, which led to the creation of larger more complex tool, textiles replacing animal skin by developing looms that could take fibers that was used to make cloth. Technology although simple in our standards continued to rapidly evolve.

According to Moore’s Law, computer processing speed doubles exponentially every single year. Being 32 times faster than the current speed after five years, and 1024 times faster than the current speed after 10 years. Exponential growth is a phenomenon both observed in nature, as well as society as a whole. It comes as little surprise that the progression of technology has been exponential as well.
