The Alchemist
One of the themes The Alchemist shares is with an article titled “ESPN anchor Stuart Scott’s rare cancer” Stuart Scott, like Santiago, shows that it is important to follow your dreams even when you encounter struggles. In the novel, Santiago didn’t want to become a priest, like his father wished; instead his dream was to travel the world. His father gave him three gold coins to buy sheep to travel with, but when he went to Tangier a man stole Santiago’s coins by lying, saying that he was going to buy him camels to guide him to the pyramids. However, that didn’t stop him from following his dream of wanting to travel. The novel states that, “The secret of life is to fall seven times to get up eight times” even after you encounter obstacles in life, it is important to stay focused on your goals and never give up on your dreams. After Santiago got robbed he found a job and worked extremely hard for years to save enough money to make the trip to the pyramids. This novel also reads that, “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” Never let fear conquer your mind’s ability to achieve your dreams as fear is your dreams worst enemy. Similarly, the article published by CBS news “ESPN anchor Stuart Scott’s rare cancer” discusses Stuart Scott’s life story and his difficult struggles. It reveals that Stuart Scott experienced stomach pains in 2007 and was rushed to the hospital where he was diagnosed

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is a novel that explains the history of a family murder through two characters perspective. Capote unravels each character through the concept of juxtapose, which helps prevail the occurrence of events. Dick, is a very straight forward man that does not care about what others think. Whereas, Perry has a shy, conserved personality that is shown through transitions and details. Juxtapose effects the readers and characters as explained throughout the novel by comparing and contrasting two different characters opinions.Details are shown on every page and are illustrated in every sentence, which gives the reader the image. In Cold Blood represents the development of characters, juxtapose, transitions and details.
Fahrenheit 451 is a novel based on a character amed Montag and the life he lives. Throughout the novel his belief will be challenged and he will begin to see the world he and the other characters live in differently. Overtime the man who he was will not be the man he becomes. His beliefs, the characters who have influenced him, and the ways that Montag changes will all be discussed in this essay.
“It’s because he no longer loves us sweetheart. Pack your stuff, we’re leaving this house and your father who doesn’t care enough anymore about this family.”
Throughout the book “The Alchemist”, Santiago faces many trials on his journey to Egypt to find the treasure. He is able to follow all the steps of the Hero’s Journey, starting with the call to adventure and finishing with the status quo. Santiago may have started his journey in Spain and made his way to Egypt but key points through this book include the status quo, threshold, and the abyss.
The Hero’s Journey is a pattern created by the American mythologist Joseph Campbell and is a path that every hero must take in order for them to pursue their personal legend as Paulo Coelho describes in The Alchemist, a hero can be a human, animal or a magical creature. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “archetype as the original pattern or model of which all things of the same type are representations or copies” (“archetype”). During this path, the hero will encounter different obstacles that will prevent him/her from achieving their destiny.Coco is a movie that talks about a Mexican tradition that celebrates dead called Dia de Los Muertos. Throughout the movie, we see families coming together, so they can honor and remember the family
Dick exhibits several of the characteristics typically attributed to psychopaths. Two of those characteristics that he shows are control over the murder and deceitful actions performed in daily situations. Serial killers are generally either in control over the murders they perform, or make small mistakes, causing their capture to be easier. Like Dennis Rader, who “showed ingenuity and complete control” during his murder of the Otero family, Dick is the former type of killer. He carefully planned out how the murder of the Clutters was to happen. For example, after Perry shot each member of the Clutter family, Dick carefully searched for the spent shotgun shells to leave as little evidence as possible – “But the voice plunges on, ejecting a fusillade of sounds and images: Hickock hunting the discharged shell; hurrying, hurrying, and Kenyon’s head in a circle of light, the murmur of muffled pleadings, then Hickock again scrambling after a used cartridge…” (Capote 244-245).
In the book Montag reads out loud true friendship defined to Mildred. After, reading the definition he began thinking of an 17 year old girl, named Clarisse. How he had just met Clarisse and she had already put a new spin to his life. For Example, Clarisse would wait til Montag got off of work just to walk and talk to him. During their walks they would talk about many topics , some that left Guy thinking after she was gone. Then one day all of a sudden he stop seeing Clarisse.Guy missed her and began to feel lonely again on his walks home.
Another specific situation in when people could see Mildred as cold with any decency, emotion, and with some kind of wickedness is when she communicated to Montang that Clarisse (girl of seventeen years old) was gone. ‘’Forgot, forgot… Whole family moved out somewhere. But she’s gone for good. I think she’s dead’’ (Bradbury 44). For common sense, normal people with some kind of compassion could not announce a fatality by the same way of Mildred. The notice was delicate because a person’s life was involved, stranger for her, but Clarisse was her neighbor too. But Mildred despite her coldness and appearance of bad person that she reflected in that moment, she only was giving the information to her cold husband, she could not say anything, but
“The woman’s hand twitched on the single matchstick. The fumes of kerosene bloomed about her. Montag felt the hidden book pound like a heart against his chest. ‘Go on’” (Bradbury 36-37).
In Fahrenheit 451, the characters Clarisse McClellan and Mildred Montag play a major role in the story; although they are important characters, they are metaphorically opposites because of the events that take place before and after the book Fahrenheit 451. Mildred is Guy Montag’s wife, but throughout the story it is questioned why they even ended up together; Montag gives an example about Mildred’s opinion on “the smell of kerosene” stating that “my wife always complains.” (Bradbury Pg.6) The reason this is brought up is because Guy works as a fireman, not to be confused with a firefighter, a fireman set fires rather than stopping them. In a conversation with Clarisse, she says “it’s just that I love to watch people too much I guess” (Bradbury
In the novel of Fahrenheit 451 it describes the life of the protagonist, Guy Montag a“fireman” that burns downs houses containing books, for the “good” of the public. Guy Montagwas living a normal life as a firefighter and didn’t question anything he was told, he followed therules and procedures. Until he met Clarisse McClellan, a 17 year old girl full creativity and wascapable to think outside of society laws. She is an important character because she shows Guythe evil and insanity of their society. This makes Guy think of the books they have burned andwonder what information they contained, even though owning or reading books is against thelaw. The author, Ray Bradbury, was greatly influenced by occurring events happening aroundthe world. It took place during the McCarthy Era, when the threat of book burning
The way one takes upon a challenge holds up to its accomplishments. How you handle a challenge has an effect on its outcomes. Following your dreams, and letting nothing stop those dreams is the concept of this book. In the novel “The Alchemist”, Paulo Coelho explains how personal legends affect another's life. This concept is delineated through Englishman Santiago and Fatima, and how love will rest for the desire of an achievement.
In the story fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury shows many characters atttitude and contributionn to the story. One character that really stands out and makes me dislike hime or her more than any character in this story is mildred.Mildred is the wife of the main character Montag. She wakes up watching clowns in the t.v. that cause her to separates from her real life. This is not the only reason I dislike her, the other reason is that she treats his husband as if he were not real she rarely talks to him even if she is feeling bad she won't tell him. The way she makes herself happy is not with him it's with her lovely technology every day.She is a horrible person since she makes herself fall asleep pills which shows that she doesn’t care if
People grow both mentally and physically in their lifetimes; however, the unique ways in which people grow and develop create the wonder of diverse human life. Paulo Coelho contradicts this idea in his novel The Alchemist when he states, “And my heart and soul is your heart and soul” (IX). This underlines Coelho’s whole idea all of humanity’s stories are the same. Coelho shares this idea as he attempts to describe what he believes this shared story is through a boy named Santiago. However, while the humanity and Santiago may share the same goals, the way that Santiago achieves them is unrealistic compared to most of society. Santiago begins innocent and unknowledgeable of the world, and goes out on a mission to find his Personal Legend.
