The Blind Side (2009) by John Lee Hancock is a movie shows the struggle of a young Black male named Michael Oher (the main character) in a predominately white society. Michael is constantly experiencing discrimination and racism throughout the film. This is nothing new, we see people being discriminative all the time whether it's in the media, on the news, or in a local supermarket; sometimes we ourselves are the ones being discriminated against. The Blind Side is a remarkable movie because not only is it based on a true story, it allows the viewers to see the daily struggles young black men go through. Hancock also manages to deconstruct the long-established perceptions of white people in the United States through the white family that takes Michael in, the Touhy's. …show more content…

Leigh Anne and her husband Sean Touhy adopt Michael and become his legal guardians. Their son S.J. becomes a brother to Michael and they all become a family despite their different cultural backgrounds. The Touhy family see Michaels true potential and accept him for who he is; they also help him to see his own potential as a student and professional football player. The blind side does an exceptional job at highlighting the issues that take place today with racism, discrimination, cultural interaction, and cultural differences. Most importantly it depicts what great things can happen when white privilege is used to do good and make a difference in the lives of others rather than just benefiting from
