The Civil War of 1861-1865 determined the type of country United States of America would be. Out of thirty-four states, in 1861, seven Southern slave states declared their independence from the United States, they formed the Confederate States. The number of confederate states, also known as the South, grew to include eleven states. The remaining states that did not declare their independence were known as the Union or the North. The War had its origin from the issue of slavery, especially in regards to the expansion of slavery into the Western states. Four years of battle between the North and the South, over 600,000 Union and Confederate soldiers died and most of the South’s infrastructure destroyed. The Confederacy collapsed and slavery
Slavery makes people that are confident and people that think they can do anything, make them feel like they can't do anything and make them not confident.
The Civil War, 1861: a battle commenced from small differences. These differences, although they seem insignificant, divided a nation in two. Within this division, detriment broke out, leaving a once perfect nation broken and scarred from war. This piece will illustrate and explain the multiple causes of the Civil War to include the differences of political instability, economical relations, and slavery.
The Civil War was caused by the economics of slavery and the political control of that system, specifically being states’ rights on the federal powers of the government, the territorial expansion of the united states that led to the division of the two sides, and the election of President Abraham Lincoln which was the final event that sent the nation to war.
The Civil War was the war that divided the young American nation into two opposing sides. One side being the North, also called the Union, and the second side being the South, also called the Confederacy. The root cause of why the South seceded from the Union has been debated and argued since the beginning of the war in 1861. Most people argue that the argument, between the North and the South, over slavery was the main reason why the South left the Union. However, the issue has to be more complex than just the issue with slavery. The root cause of the of the South secession from the Union was a combination of the South’s aggravation and fear over their dependence on the North for their economic prosperity and their dependence on slavery for a highly profitable economy.
The Civil War was an internal conflict occurred in the United States from 1861 to 1865. The Civil war began out of control by southern states to secede from the union after the accession of Abraham Lincoln to the presidency. After Abraham Lincoln from the Northern state raise his voice for the abolishment of a slavery and racial inequality, the secession was declared. And, the Southern states viewed as a violation of their constitutional rights. As an example, In Lincoln’s (1858) debate with Stephen Douglas, when Lincoln tried to support both slavery and racial inequality, Caucasians stood against of him because they believed they were the superior one which resulted in Lincoln to changed his interest on just abolishing slavery not the racial
The Civil War was caused by many reasons. The factors that were most responsible in causing the Civil War were the different views of the Constitution among the North and South, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the arrival of Lincoln as president. They caused immense destruction throughout the nation. If these factors were prevented, the United States could have been preserved and civil war could have never occurred.
Among the various causes of the Civil War, The Compromise of 1850 added fuel to the fire that would soon inevitably break out into war. After the Mexican-American War and the gold rush of 1849 a large influx of people moved West, specifically to California, leaving it in complete chaos, with no structure or government. Consequently, California wanted to officially become a free state in America, but the president at the time, Zachary Taylor, had trouble accepting California’s statehood due to slavery issues that would then arise. The South however knew that if California was added as a state then there would be an unbalance in the Senate with more non-slave states. Moreover, the South wanted new, harsher Fugitive Slave Laws because of the Underground
One of the events that shaped the U.S as a nation is the Civil War. The civil war lasted from 1861 to 1865. Abraham Lincoln who was president at the time and has the title of the “Great Emancipator” was very active on the whole process of the civil war up until he died. It is important to not only to question, and understand why this civil war happened but if it was inevitable or with its cost.
Exactly 620,000 people died in the Civil War, the Civil War costed the country 5.2 million dollars. The Union Army of 2,100,000 soldiers was nearly two times the size of the Confederate Army of 1,064,000. It was the deadliest war in american history. Around 9 million people lived in the southern states at the time of the civil war. Thirty percent of all southern white males between the ages of 18 and 40 died in the Civil War. There were 179,000 Afro americans in the Union Army. The Civil War started because of the Missouri Compromise, economics, Bleeding Kansas, cotton production, and Virginia.
Generally, it is thought to be the South’s fault for causing the Civil War. Contrary to popular belief, the Civil War was mainly provoked by the North; through using the federal government to overtake the South, removing slavery which would destroy Southern economy, and creating the moral issue of slavery. The North was the primary reason for the start of a war that ripped our country apart.
The causes of the Civil War were complex and have been controversial since the country began. Some causes include; states’ rights, economics, and slavery. The most recognizable and popular cause is slavery. The freeing of the slaves was an important moral issue at the time and one of the greatest causes of the civil war. "It was only by carefully avoiding the moral issue involved in slavery that Northerners and Southerners could meet on any common ground." (Goldston, 79). The time came in which our great country would finally address the moral issue of slavery. Although there are many different causes to the American Civil War, the main cause was slavery because other causes are rooted in the issue of slavery.
The Civil War was a war between the Northern United States and the Southern united states. The North was the Unions and the South was the Confederate. This war started because the South wanted slavery and the North did not want slavery. The two sides fought many battles and a lot of people had died from these battles. If a soldier got shot or injured and their wound got infected they would usually amputate the limb that the wound was on. Horses were one thing that was important for armies at that time and they could be used to haul supplies and big guns.
Slavery, as Abraham Lincoln often noted, was the root cause of the Civil War. Tensions over slavery dated back to the contradictory nature of the American Revolution of 1776 that resulted in a republic simultaneously committed to freedom for whites and bondage for blacks (Barney W., p. 61). Within years North and South reached the point at which compromise was not possible. At that time Civil War had been started.
What causes the civil war I believe there were many reason why civil war was causes ,but this are some overall reason why it got into a war (1) the ethical issues of the principles or the blame of the parties leading to the conflict and their political parties or leaders (2) retaining of Negro slavery (along with the establishment's function in a racial society) not only as the indication to the moral issue and of course racial issues, but as the center on which the meaning of the war turns into, causes for these two reasons political and economic standings (3) the United States as a federal or national body established in the revolutionary period and either preserved or perverted by the civil war( Church History).
