In the aftermath of the French and Indian war, the British government passed a series of laws which granted the British to pass any law they wanted to and this would lead to the sparks of the American revolution. War costs a lot of money, so in order to meet this demand, the British parliament started to tax the Colonists that had no business in the war and these colonists were still just developing so they were just taking the first few steps towards building a new civilization. So when the new laws were being established in the Colonists lives, it did not sit well that the Colonists, the people who had not fought in the war, were the ones paying for the war. Sure it could be reasonable to understand that the Colonist were a part of the great British empire and have to help the mother country in anyway they can but it turns into madness when the British thought they can just force the colonist to pay for the complete costs of war. From all this, it would lay the foundation for the revolution idea to begin and all the events, battles, and leaders to follow next. An act that was passed on the Colonists were the intolerable acts that caused so many problems that happened after the sons of liberty, which were a group of rebels, poured crates of tea into British harbors that will later be known as the Boston tea party in 1773 ( Document 4). To show the Colonists that the British do not tolerate this kind of behavior, they closed ports of Boston until the colonists pay back for
Before the Revolutionary War, the tensions between the colonists and King George of Great Britain were “very high”. The colonists were unhappy over the unfair treatment they were receiving from Britain. They were angry with the taxes and laws that King George had imposed upon them. Despite the taxes being for the French and Indian War, which Britain had fought to keep the colonists safe, they still were angered that they had to pay them. The colonists were unfairly taxed without representation and had a legitimate reason to be angry with King George and Great Britain. The only solution that seemed possible was war, so the colonists decided to declare war. The American colonists were justified for breaking away from the British because they were unfairly taxed and were treated unfairly by the British.
It was the Tea Act. This act stated that only the British East India Company could sell or transport tea. Members of parliament passed this act because many of them had stakes in the company. At the time the British India Company was going bankrupt. This act threatened all colonial businesses by creating a monopoly. In Boston, the colonists devised a plan to resist this act. Several colonists dressed as Indians to deceive the British. These colonists seized the imported tea and dumped it into the harbor. The colonists dubbed this “the tea party.” The British responded to these actions by creating four acts jointly called the Coercive Acts. These acts closed the Boston ports to all trade, increased power of Massachusetts governor, granted trials of royal officials in Massachusetts be tried elsewhere, and allowed the new governor rights to quarter his troops anywhere. These Coercive Acts only angered the colonists more. They have strengthened their non-importation of British goods. They have also begun the forming of local militia companies.
The Intolerable Acts, otherwise known as the “Coercive” Acts, caused the most unrest among the colonies and led to the American Revolution during the 1700’s. In 1733, Parliament passed the Tea Act. This made it so that colonists could only buy tea from the British East Indies Company. Even though the Tea Act lowered the price of tea, the colonists thought of it as another restriction of their freedom. A group of opposers, dressed as American Indians, threw three-hundred forty chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. The British were enraged and passed the Intolerable Acts. This gave the British all control over Massachusetts and forced colonists to pay back the money for the tea they ruined. Although the Coercive Acts only applied to Massachusetts,
The American Revolution was the uprising of the existing thirteen American colonies to gain independence from Britain in the mid 1700’s. The American colonists began questioning Britain’s authority as early as the French and Indian War. During the French Indian War, the colonies wanted to defend themselves against the French in North America. They asked King George for permission to raise armies in order defend themselves. Although their reason to raise an army was sincere, George II was suspicious of the intentions of the colonial government and disapproved their petition. After the French Indian War, Britain decided to raise money by taxing the American Colonists for reparations. Taxes such as the Stamp and Tea Acts created controversy
The British responded to the Boston Tea Party by passing four acts in the same year that were very harsh as punishment for the colonists. The four acts together were called to the Coercive Acts by the British, but the Patriots called them the Intolerable Acts and they consisted of the Boston Port Act, the Quartering Act, the administration of Justice Act, and the Massachusetts Government Act. However, the act that had the largest impact was the Boston Port Act which was the first of the Intolerable acts, passed on March 25, 1774. The Boston Port Act's purpose was to punish and intimidate the colonists by having the British Navy closing off the ports of Boston and Charleston. They didn’t allow ships to bring anything into the port except for
In response to the Boston Tea Party, the king of England imposed what became known as the "Intolerable Acts". First, there was the Boston Port Act which closed the port of Boston until the Dutch East India Company had been repaid for the destroyed tea from the Boston Tea Party. Second, there was the Massachusetts Government Act, which allowed the British to control the government of Massachusetts. Third, there was the Administration of Justice Act, which allowed royal officials to be tried in Britain if the king felt it necessary for fair justice. Fourth, there was the Quartering Act which ordered colonists to provide housing for British soldiers. Lastly, there was the Quebec Act which expanded British territory in
On December 1773, the parliament makes a law that forced the colonist to organize a group of people to fight against wrong behavior, the British treated the Americans like a second-class citizen, they increase their taxes, force some things that is not forced on the British upon them. The Americans rebelled against the British because they see them as wicked because they are not treated fairly, they discriminate among them. However, they are doing all those acts to gain more profits from the colonists. In 1774, the intolerable Acts was passed that closed Boston to trade until they reimbursed the Boston Tea
In the early 1700s, the American colonists were content with the rule of Great Britain and the British King. The practice of salutary neglect kept the relationship between the colonists and Great Britain in balance. Most people were satisfied with this arrangement. However, certain events caused these feelings to change. During the 1750s and 1760s, Great Britain and the colonists joined forces against the French during the French and Indian War. Although the British won, the war left them with huge debts and new lands to protect in North America. To solve the problems, the British government passed a number of laws. Some of these laws ordered the colonists to pay new taxes. These new taxes angered colonists because they had no representatives
The American Revolution was a movement that brought forward drastic changes within American society, bringing into light new and controversial ideas of equality and freedom to the colonies. The tension between Britain and the colonies brewed as the English Congress, Parliament, began to pass laws and taxes on colonies’ goods, sparking uproars and protests reminiscing about the past rule over the colonies- salutary neglect and a desire to return to the unscrutinized type of British rule. The French and Indian War sent Britain spiraling into debt and in order to remedy the loss, Parliament began to tax colonists to pay back what was lost from the war. In essence, the colonies
This had greatly disappointed the colonist. So when the king put taxes on them, they were not happy. This problem also has a fancy term called ‘’taxation without representation’’. The colonists felt used by a government who did not represent them nor cared about their opinions. They felt like slaves to England. These bitter feelings got the colonist to the point of revolt. These sentiments can be realized by Patrick Henry’s quote “give me liberty or give me death!”. The colonist prepared a petition called the olive branch petition to stop the taxes, while also preparing for war. After the king declined their petition and promised to demolish all of the rebels, the colonies were fired up. There were many wars after that like the battle of bunker hill and the revolutionary war. Finally, on July 4 1776, the Americans got their freedom from the British.
There were several major disagreements between the American colonists and British rule between 1763 and the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The British, along with the colonists, had won a costly war against the French and their Indian allies. It was during this time that England’s views of the New World had started to shift. Rather than focusing on the trade opportunities, more and more policymakers concerned themselves with the land expansion of the British colonies. The British also felt that the Americans were the primary beneficiaries of the war, and should help pay for the debt. American colonists up until this point had been governed very loosely by Parliament and were not receptive to the new laws, taxes, or the increased British
The British impose taxes onto the American colonists to pay of their debt from the war. When the British force these taxes onto the colonists, it makes them feel as if all their efforts towards freedom were for nothing. Colonists left Britain to hopefully escape British control but the British wouldn’t let them have their freedom.
The intolerable acts were made as punishment for the Boston Tea Party. The British Government passed four laws. One that closed the port in Boston, one that increased the powers of the royal governor, one that abolished the upper house of the Massachusetts legislator, and cut the power of citizens,
Night, The colonist were disguised as indians dumping the tons of tea. This act was to to help with financial problems.
This war was created by money problems and previous wars. In this war, there were many events caused by both sides. America fought for independence from the British. There was a previous war about which countries had what land and the British spent a lot of money on that war. He had to take the troops to the New World to defend his land, buy weapons for them and build shelters. After the war, Great Britain was in debt. The British government then decided to tax the colonists because Great Britain’s troops came over to the New World to protect the colonists. They put tax on everything. They also made the colonists buy stamps to show they paid the tax. The colonists didn’t like how the British were treating them, so the colonists started to rebel against the British.
