The Causes Of The Great War

The Great War, later known as the first world war. WW1 was fought by the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. The Triple Alliance was Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary. The Triple Entente was formed by Great Britain, Russia, and France. Alliances, Militarism, Nationalism, and Imperialism were four M.A.I.N causes that drove Europe to war, but Nationalism contributed most to the outbreak of WW1

The alliance system, imperialism, arms race, and military plans created a perfect situation for a war in Europe, which would eventually become the Great War. With Germany, Great Britain, France, and Russia being the top powers in Europe, these countries would be the front runners in the discussion of the topics mentioned above and how their participation in those topics eventually led to the Great War. The order of topics to discuss that would ultimately lead to the Great War would be Imperialism being the spark that would lead to an arms race, which would then lead to an alliance system, with military plans truly making the war a world war.

In 1914, a horrifying war of four years broke out between France, Germany, and the countries’ respective allies. Many called this fight between nations the “War to End All Wars,” or simply “The Great War.” Then, just 21 years after the first conflict, a second war broke out between the Axis Powers and Allied Forces. The two battles resulted in a decade of fear, torment, and bloodshed. However, what caused these wars and what similarities do they have? In truth, the wars were very similar to one another and are related to each other in a near direct way.

During 1914, one of the world’s most important wars erupted. There were many causes of this war such as Imperialism, Nationalism, Militarism and the creation of Alliances, but the one that people most remember is the death of Frank and Sophie Ferdinand of Austria by a young terrorist. This was remembered as one of the events that put all the tension together and caused nations to officially declare war! Many nations had immense tension building up to this point and they all saw this event as an excuse for war. War can’t be declared without the support of the people, and this event fed the people and increased Nationalism.

The First World War was only a catalyst for the war, not the principle cause as there were several precursors stretching back over a century. World War I had no one cause, however, the principle cause was increasing frustrations with their leader’s inability to maintain their increasing standard of life. The Great War worked as a catalyst by creating an environment conducive to revolution, focusing all of the causes in one place at one time, with the focal point being February and March of 1917. The source of power for this revolution began at the end of the 18th century, simultaneously building the arsenal against Nicholas II’s autocratic, repressionist regime. The greatest indirect cause of WWI was the forming of alliances; a process by which two or more countries join together in times of trouble to make themselves stronger. As tensions grew between the nations, two distinct alliances were formed, the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente. To expand, with the two alliances in place, Europe was set for war (Beauchamp). On July 26, 1914 Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia as a result of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Serbia called in their ally Russia for help. To defend their own ally, Austria-Hungary, Germany then declared war on Russia on August 1, 1914. There are several causes of the war and several of them start in the Balkans. The causes were political, territorial and economic conflicts among the great European powers in the four decades leading up to the war. Other causes were militarism, a complex web of alliances, imperialism, and nationalism.

The agent of demise for over fifteen million, the First World War, also known as the Great War, is one of the most tragic modern-day examples of futile violence. The immediate cause of The Great War was the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a Bosnian Serb Nationalist. As a result of the assassination, Austria declared war against Serbia and by the time each country gathered their alliances, almost all of Europe was at war with each other. Weakly united and largely unorganized, the Central Powers consisted of Germany, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Austria-Hungary. Opposing the Central Powers were the Allied Powers, whose primary members included Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Japan, and, eventually, the United States.

The Great War finally ended for France as they have suffered more than the other nations. The west side of France was destroyed by the Germans, with the north-east taking most of the damage. The Germans were able to get near the city of Paris before being pushed back by allied forces. Paris wasn't damaged, but the cities and towns near it were. Add that with the high casualties and hundreds of upset French people, you get what France was face in 1925.

The causes of the First World War were similar and differed from the causes of the Second World War politically, economically, and socially. Both of these significant, historical events were substantially affected by the interaction of dominating societies during this time period. During the First World War, these leading societies were the European authorities of Britain, Germany, and Austria, with slight assistance from the U.S. However, the United States allocated their full engagement during the Second World War. Eventually, with years to come, the United States would become one of the primary superpowers. Although these two wars were notably different from political, social, and economic views, both of these event shared numerous similarities.

For almost 100 years, Europe was a war torn continent. The Crimean War from 1853 to 1856 was fought to stop Russian expansion, and further the rights of Catholics in Eastern Europe. The Austro-Prussian War in1866 was a war on the road to German unification. The Franco-Prussian War from 1870 to 1871 was Bismarck’s last stage in his German unification plan, and allowed for the capture of Alsace and Lorraine. Many smaller scale wars also happened along side these major conflicts. Then the Great War happened in 1914 and lasted until 1919. The Great War changed the landscape of Europe, and was the most destructive war the world had seen. World war 1 was also called “ The Great War”. It had began in 1914 and end in the year 1918. There were many causes of this war which were nationalism, imperialism and militarism. These three effect had a great impact on the war. They were primarily the reason for world war 1. These causes had made a big impact on people’s lives that it is still not forgotten to this day.

The Great War lasted from July 28, 1914 until November 11, 1918. 17 million people were killed during the war and about 100,000 of those people were American troops. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the motivation behind why the war. Most of the countries in Europe made mutual defense agreements that would pull them in battle. So, even if one country was attacked, the allied countries were promised to defend them. Although there were several reasons that led to the Great War. Some of those causes included nationalism, imperialism as well as militarism.
