In modern society the codes of behavior are described as etiquette that each society member is expected to follow. In ancient Greek culture it was very essential to follow codes of behavior. In the first half of odyssey there are several codes of behavior spotted like hospitality, vengenance, fidelity, household loyalty, and reverence. The particular types of codes of behavior that will be discussed in this essay are fidelity and hospitality. Hospitality is an important aspect in society where guests are treated as though they were god. Fidelity code is loyalty between husband and wife being loyal to each other. Both codes will be taken into the account and illustrated with example from the first half of The Odyssey.

Loyalty to family, society and the gods is an important aspect in ancient Greek culture. This quality is often seen between characters throughout The Odysseyas specially loyalty between husband and wife. Loyalty could be defined based on The Odyssey to be devoted to someone, hoping their homecoming and victory. Again and again loyalty is seen in the complete fidelity in the time of uncertainty. Penelope waits tem long years for her husband to return from war and on the other hand Odysseus showing loyalty to Penelope refuses immortality to Kalypso and also refuses to marry Circe.
