The communication principle that is outlined in this paper is about communicating lies and what the outcome of lying is. In the book of Psalm, it explains very clear about the bibles stance on lying. Psalm 59:12-13:12 reads, “For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter, 13 consume them in your wrath; consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob.”
Speaking truthfully is a very important part of living ethically. The Bible has very strong feelings against lying as seen in this book of Psalms. If someone knowingly tells someone that they intend to do something, but know that there is no

Speaking with candor has to do with honesty and providing information that the recipient of the communication needs to receive. Candor is required in all of our relationships especially those in which we have a vested emotional interest. Candor is also important in the business world as business partners must share honest information between one another. The bible has many examples of speakers spreading the word of faith and speaking with candor.
The next aspect of truthfulness is sincerity. Sincerity is defined as the quality of being free from pretense, deceit, or hypocrisy (freedictonary.com, 2014). Sincerity is honesty, free of criticism and spreading non truths. Sincerity allows us to be genuine and accepted for whom we are, not by pretending to be what we aren’t. There are no motives behind our message when we are being sincere. Being sincere in our communication is an expression of honesty from which we understand and accept within ourselves.
Some questions I developed from this scripture and aspects of honest communication starting with Candor are: Does being honest in our communication require us to volunteer information even when we are not asked for it specifically? I answered yes to this question. In my opinion withholding information is lying. If you have the information available at the time of your communication, it should be disclosed.
Another question in reference to sincerity in regards to the scripture is: If someone that
Lying can save you in severe situations such as life or death. Elie lied about his age and said he was eighteen instead of fifteen. “‘Your age?’ he asked, perhaps trying to sound paternal. ‘I'm eighteen.’ My voice was trembling.” (Wiesel 31). Not telling exact information to strangers about yourself can prevent bad things from happening. He told the doctor he was sick so he didn’t have to get his crown taken. His crown could buy him an extra ration of bread and soup, so he decided it’d be smart to keep it. He said he was a farmer because it could save him from being killed immediately. Lying is one of many ways that can help people survive in certain situations.
Jesus told his disciples a story to teach them about honesty. He told them about a rich man who had a manager, and the manager was using the man's money for himself. When the rich man discovered that the manager was wasting his money, he called him in and fired him. After telling this story, Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much."
Honesty is a good principle, however it does not have to be absolute. Although we should always strive to stay honorable and genuine, deception, under certain conditions and during certain times are justifiable. This point is acknowledged and bolstered in the novel Grapes of Wrath, repeatedly throughout history and proven through scientific research.
Lies lead us away from God and make us create a false reality that ends up hurting us later in life. I think that the best life you can live is being happy, with loving friends and family, and a good relationship with God, and the only way you can have these things is through honesty and truth, not lies. Overall, honesty mentioned in the eighth commandment will help us live a good life and lead us to live morally. Commandments seven and ten are the commandments of justice. Commandment seven is “you shall not steal” and the tenth commandment is “you shall not covet your neighbor’s goods”.
In his exposition, Augustine weaves the scandalous revelation of the New Testament gospel to “unlock” Old Testament truth, resulting a “liturgical proclamation” characteristic of his era. In one sense, the Psalms are fixed, but, in another, they are “experienced and interpreted within a continuously unfolding reality.” This reality is made possible by the gospel. For Augustine, the historical context of the psalm merely describes the godly versus the ungodly, but the gospel transcends the historical meaning of the psalm by making the ungodly godly. Sinners who are “swept away” in the bondage of spiritual pride can become branches on the firmly planted tree of
According to Higgs, truthfulness can be thought as the : disclosing the information of someone to them without misleading their information. In a medical situation, for example, a doctor should reveal relevant information regarding the nature of illness of his patients, without saying anything that he believe to be false.
In the documents Lessons for Women, Psalms of the Sisters and History of Rome all explain the different gender systems and their roles. Lessons for women, was a about a lady named Ban Zhao who was a Chinese women that wrote lessons for women. In the document Psalms of the Sisters was written by women about religious experience of women. The document 5.3 History of Rome, states Roman women demanded repeal of a tax on luxury items for women long after the Punic Wars were over. In each document they tell a different role for women because women rights were not taken seriously in some civilizations.
Honest shows that a person's actions are more important than their thought because it reveals the true test of a person's character. Being honest can make an individual more trustworthy because their actions can determine whether or not they can be trusted. An example of a person being honest is Antigone. Even though the king did not want her to bury her brother, she did it anyway for respect. Even though Antigone knew what she was doing was wrong, she wanted to show respect her brother and family.
Honesty without integrity can also lead to moral disasters. Well, honesty may be important but not sufficient for integrity. Integrity is both essential and significant. It is acceptable and one will agree with what Stephen L. Carter says about a person having honesty but not integrity. There are also some white lies present. Sometimes saying the truth or telling everything you know might hurt somebody. Harm may not be the intention but positively the effect.
Honesty and deception both play valuable roles in all parts of personal lives and society. Richard Gunderman stated, “To tell the truth is to live authentically and responsibly, to really live.” Living honestly is a way to have less stress to your life, proven by Richard Gunderman in “Is lying bad for us?” However, dishonesty seems to at an all time high with the growth of communication as stated in “On Bullshit” by Harry Frankfurt. In addition, lying can provide incredible short-term benefits discussed by Stephanie Ericsson in “The Ways We Lie.” Gunderman’s claim on authenticity is valid because most cultures see honesty and trust as two of the more lauded values. Telling the truth relieves stress and adds trust. Yet, there is a seemingly
I am going to argue why lying is immoral no matter who you might be lying to, friends, family, and even someone you do not know. This is immoral because even though lying to someone may bring relief or happiness it’s still hiding the truth from that person. Hiding something they deserve to know even though it may hurt them may also be a form of lying. There are many situations where lying may end friendships, relationships, or even tare families apart because most people want to know the truth no matter how harsh, because eventually the truth may come out. In addition to hiding information, there are also other forms of lying. Telling someone false information as well as withholding information are forms of lying. The worst part about telling a lie is that the more you do it the more comfortable one may become. Lying becomes a habit to many people, a habit they have a hard time breaking. Lying can simply be defined in one word, deception.
Lying the one form of communication that is the untruth expressed to be the truth. Immanuel Kant states that lying is morally wrong in all possible ways. His hatred for lying has made him “just assumed that anyone who lied would be operating with a maxim like this: tell a lie so as to gain some benefit.”(Landau,pp.171) This is true for a vast number of people, they will lie in order to gain a certain benefit from the lie rather than the truth. It is similar to if you play a game of truth or dare, some rather pick a dare because it would release them from having to tell the truth. However, those who do pick truth still have a chance to lie to cover up the absolute truth.People lie in order to cover who they truly are. Even if you lie to benefit someone or something else, it would not matter to Kant because he does not care for the consequences. If you lie but have a good intention it is not the same for Kant, he would argue that you still lied no matter the consequence that a lie is a lie. “ While lying, we accuse others for not being transparent. While being hypocrites ourselves, we expect others to be sincere.” (Dehghani,Ethics) We know how it feels to be lied to by a person, so in order to not have the feeling returned, we hope the person will be truthful. We rather be surrounded by truthful people constantly despite all the lies that some people tell. No
For that reason, truth differentiates among individuals thorough their contrasting opinions. But, truth is something that everyone believes to be correct. Thus, it greatly depends on what’s true in the minds of the people. On the contrary, truth that’s spoken with bad intent is considered to be worse than a lie. Hence, truth is an expression, symbol or statement that corresponds to reality and happiness.
Allah's Messenger Peace be upon Him has said : (Be truthful. For truthfulness leads to piety and piety leads to Paradise. If a man holds to truth and persist in it, he will be recorded with ALLAH as a truthful man. Beware of lying. For lying leads to wickedness and wickedness
Should we tell the truth and obey the Bible or lie and disobey it and the Ten Commandments? An old proverb says honesty is the best policy. However, I disagree with the proverb that honesty is the best policy. Being honest is always a good thing to do to earn trust and respect, but you must lie about something’s like clothes and food. First of all, we all lie to not to hurt ones feelings or preventing them from hurting themselves. Second, we could not keep secrets that our friends tell us, because if someone asks us if the rumor was about us then yes we have to tell the truth if we listen to the proverb. Last, customs and traditions is what makes us tell those tiny white lies. I mean who is going to walk up to a four year old and tell them Santa and all those other characters are not real? Exactly no one would it would honestly crush them. Although we know Santa is not real we still tell them Santa is watching us. After all, we all lie in some little way to prevent hurt feelings to someone that is really close to us.
