I believe the theme of “Count of Monte Cristo” is don’t jump to conclusions because the protagonist, Edmond, jumps to conclusions about a noise he believed was an escaping prisoner. I know this because the text states, “Unfortunately, Edmond’s brain was still so feeble that he could not bend his thoughts to anything in particular, ” (Dumas, par. 11). This shows that Edmond was delirious and could have imagined the sound. He heard what he wanted to hear and instantly jumped to the conclusion that it was a prisoner who could help set him free. Revenge, at the time that Dante knows the reason of his imprisonment, he try to revenge on his best friend named Mondego. Death, as the end of the story, Dante killed Mondego as an exchange to his undoubtedly imprisonment.
