Did you know, the book Crucible has been so know that there was a play about the book and then later on made Salem, Massachusetts into tourist destination. The tourist attraction makes more than $100 million a year. The book crucible is based on real facts and events that happened in 1692. John Proctor has similar events that happened to him that connects to the book. John Proctor had conflicts throughout the book that affected his reputation with god and the whole village. The crucible takes place in a small village in Salem, Massachusetts, 1962. This place is where many were accused of witchcraft and were hanged because of it however most were innocent. John Proctor had many conflicts that had to do with witchcraft and the village and tries to be good with god. John proctor is a very honest and brave man; he is a father to 3 wonderful boys and he is married to Elizabeth Proctor. One of John proctors main conflict is he committed adultery. He feels very guilty for doing it but when Reverend Hale asked him, “if [he] remembered all commandments”(Miller 63), which he did, but he didn’t want to remember the guilt and betrayal he was to Elizabeth. Revenge is the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong done to someone else. Revenge is shown throughout the characters actions in the play. Witch craft is used to represent revenge. If someone didn't like another, they could accuse that person of witch craft and inflict harm on him or her. Many characters in the play are motivated by their desire to seek revenge. During the course of the play, revenge motivates the characters and has a huge significance in the play.

But later, when he realized Rebecca Nurse had been accused of being a witch, and had not confessed to it, Proctor knowing her innocence, tore up his confession as to not feel like a coward and die for what was right. John Proctor was a man who lived in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. He was married to Elizabeth Proctor. In this time John Proctor showed he was honorable in some ways. Such as him confessing to adultery to try and save his wife and he ripped his confession so he did not blacken his and others in the village names. People can also argue that is is not a honorable man. Because he did not go to church as much as he should have.
John Proctor is a well respected farmer during the Salem Witch Trials. In The Crucible, Proctor faces many conflicts. An external conflict that Proctor faces is when he gets caught having an affair with Abigail Williams and he loses all of his wife’s trust. When Elizabeth found out about the affair between John and Abigail she kicked Abigail out and had lost all trust of Proctor. Proctor became more faithful to his wife Elizabeth and he wanted to earn her trust back, but she has a hard time because she thinks his feelings are still alive for Abigail. An internal conflict that Proctor faces is when he has to decide if he would admit to the court to committing adultery with Abigail to get Elizabeth out of jail. Although he knows that he wants his wife out of jail and he knows that it would make Abigail look bad, he knows that admitting it might get him in trouble as well.

This human weakness proves to be John Proctor's tragic character flaw. It not only leads to his demise, but to the loss of many innocent lives as well.
He is faced with extreme conflict due to the fact that he committed one of the biggest sins there is: adultery. Proctor then has to decide whether he wants to confess his sin in order to save his wife or to be selfish and live a slandered reputation. Just as John Proctor makes the decision to save his wife’s life and his family's reputation, so too will any person that believes it is more important to put their family above
