We all have heard the saying the saying, “Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492.” Christopher Columbus is the man who discovered the Americas on accident. It was never Columbus’ intention to find the Americas; his focus was to find a water route from Europe to Asia.
Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy in 1451. As a teenager, Columbus would work on a merchant ship. One day, while working on the ship, the ship is attacked. The ship sinks, but Columbus survives. Columbus is going to find safety in Lisbon. He will start to develop his master plan in Lisbon. As I stated earlier, Columbus wanted to this voyage because he was trying to find a trade route between Europe and Asia. All the explorers at that time were eager to explore the far East, but needed a better and effective way because taking the land was too difficult. There were tons of riches, such as gold, silver, and spices in the East that everyone wanted a piece of. So, most of the Portuguese explorers decide to sail around the African continent, but Columbus believes there is an easier route.
Columbus suggested that he could travel west across the Atlantic Ocean which was a good idea. However, he had a hard time trying to convince everyone of this idea because his mathematical calculations are incorrect.
