With a weary grunt, Booker shifted the bag of groceries in his arms and kicked his apartment door closed with his foot. He had planned to be home early so he take Tom out to dinner as a birthday surprise, but as usual, work had ruined his plans. When he had rung Tom and explained that he would be home late, he had expected him to react moodily, but instead, he had received a sympathetic response. It was a sign that their relationship was now on stable footing. Tom was more open about his feelings, and they argued less about the trivialities of everyday life; they were moving forward. Flicking on the light, he carried the bag over to the kitchenette and placed it on the counter. He had offered to bring home Chinese food, but Tom had politely
Authors Note: This Chapters kind of like a Introduction, but I plan for the other chapters to be longer.
“THERE WAS NO PEACE for me that night, no escape. My nightmares were more intense than usual. It seemed like I was jerked awake every few minutes, terrorized by things only I could see but couldn't explain. Things like the windshield wipers going so fast they were almost invisible. A weight pinning me down so I couldn’t move no matter how hard I fought. Screams - I thought they were my own. But there were other screams too. And faces, they felt familiar, though I wasn’t totally sure. From nowhere, an unknown face, an old face. Noises so loud they made my heart stop” (Harrington 44).
11. What type of pants does Tod try at the thrift store? He tries flared pants.
In chapter 8 being an outcast/ or a loner was a feeling from this book that I wasn't expecting. I from where the books seemed like it was going it was that sex doesn't matter companionship is what Bernard wants and I believe that there it's a little weird the feelings and thoughts he's having in his head.m" Bernard says repetitively how alone he is and how he's growing feelings for Linda and like how she's noticing it and is growing them as well. From what I have read. It almost gives a sense that Linda cares and like they understand each other.
Body 1: As the book begins to narrow down on the qualities of Jay Gatsby, the reader cannot help to notice the extravagant possessions he owns. On hot summer nights in the West Egg of New York, Gatsby would host gaudy parties every weekend for whomever wanted to attend. His intention was for his long lost lover from across the bay, Daisy Buchanan, to come to a party. Unfortunately, it wasn't until Nick Carraway brought her into one, months after he had been hosting. “...Every Friday, 5 crates of oranges and lemons arrived from a fruiterer...enough colored lights to cover a Christmas tree in Gatsby’s enormous garden...spiced baked hams crowded against salads of harlequin designs…” (39,40 Fitzgerald). Jay Gatsby orders all the lavish foods
1 In Chapter One, I found the green light to be the most crucial part. I believe this because the green light seems to be very important to Gatsby. He doesn’t attend his parties, but he sits out at his dock and reaches out at this mysterious green light.
Tom’s lower lip trembled. “It’s my fault,” he whispered, his eyes shiny with tears. “I was so young, and I didn't know how to stop...”

Chpt.2- In the beginning of chapter two, Brian is in so much shock that he can’t even comprehend everything that’s happened. Even after Brian is coming out of the shock, he still realizes that there’s nothing he can do. He even states that it feels as if somebody is controlling him (his hands and arms are being lead). He thought of ways to help the pilot. The only thing that popped into his head was C.P.R. but he didn’t know how to do it. Brian then touched the pilot’s chest but felt no breathing, no heartbeat, no pulse, nothing. The plane was still going but it began to hit more and more turbulence as well as dive down more and more. Realizing that looking toward the pilot for help wasn’t an option, Brian had to do something because if he
”Buck faced the great problem of sleeping .¨ ¨A chill wind was blowing that nipped him sharply and bit especial venom into his wounded shoulder.´´This help the reader understand the character was experiencing a new situation having to sleep in the cold. He had to observe the other dogs to understand what needed to be done to survive the cold weather.
Tobio sat against the headboard and stared down at Shoyo who slept calmly on his pillow, gently breathing. In this state, his defenses were lowered even as he moved responsively to the lift of Tobio’s hand. The hand brushed hair away from fluttering eyelids and proceeded to move back and forth. The hair was fluffy. Tobio combed locks and untangled small knots though there were little to be found. Had there been more, Shoyo would have awakened in an instant. He was tender headed; Tobio had learned from past experiences.
Finally looking at them he stared and slowly placed the paper at the top of his cluttered desk, turning to the two men and sighed the first words, "More of this madness.” Gazing out the window he continued, “For months this town has been unsettled and upset because of these damn requests and these damn ships. Were you present yesterday at the fight at the waterfront?” They shook their head no. “Over the most unbelievable thing,” he shook his head as if scolding school boys. “It seems that one of the sailors, a questionable man he must be, to go on this voyage and perhaps with a bit too much drink in him, told your Captain that,” here the shop keeper played the part of a drunk, “Aye, the 'La Gallega' was a most awkward ship for such a voyage!”
The characters tone of during the first two paragraphs of the book shows that the character is very straight forward towards the audience. He doesn’t want the audience to be unknown by what is happening. Such as in the book he says “. And, let me confess, you feel that way most of the time. You ache with the need to convince yourself that you do exist in the real world, that you're a part of all the sound and anguish, and you strike out with your fists, you curse and you swear to make them recognize you. And, alas, it's seldom successful.”(PAGE 3). This quote helps the reader learn about the the truth that the narrator is trying to tell, showing the reader that his darkest secret is the very truth
As time goes on throughout the book readers will realize how vital and important the cards Ed receives are. To show how important the cards are this quote demonstrates it: “There is something in me that advises me to throw it out- to throw it in the bin and forget about it. Yet, I also feel pangs of guilt even for thinking of discarding it like that” (Zusak Pg. 26). That quote expresses his confusion and frustration towards the cards in the book. While reading you begin to wonder and think who the messenger is, the ending is confusing and will bring some thoughts to your head. For some people it may have been a wonderful ending some not so much, that’s the whole theme of the story though, confusion and different.
Later that night, as Jake recorded his observations of the town and harbor in his notebook, his mind wandered to Nell’s easy confidence when she navigating around her daddy’s store. He realized that he had seen the Harmony often docked behind Guthrie’s Hardware, and he wondered if it was her boat. Was she working with Lowell? He took a slug of bourbon to wash the image out of his mind. One thing he concluded was that Charlie Lowell could not be the brains behind the rum-running operations that functioned so openly on Front Street. He suspected that the police were being paid off in money or hooch.
