Gun safety is a huge factor in having and using a gun. Almost every shooter is taught the 12 Golden Rules. Many of those who are not, are the ones who illegally get their weapon or intend to use the weapon in a harmful way. The 12 Golden Rules are: one, always treat the gun as if it is loaded. Two, always keep the muzzle point in a safe direction. Three, always keep one’s finger off the trigger until one is ready to shoot. Four, always keep the gun unloaded until one is ready to use it. Five, never point the gun the gun at anything one does not tend to destroy. Six, be sure of what one’s target is and what is beyond it. Seven, learn the mechanical and characteristics of the gun one is using. Eight, always use the proper ammunition. Nine, be sure the barrel of the gun is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting the gun. Ten, if the gun fails to fire hold one’s position for a few seconds then carefully unload the gun with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Eleven, do not rely on the gun’s safety to keep it from firing. Twelve, be aware of one’s surroundings when handling a loaded gun so they do not trip and/or lose their balance, and accidentally point and/or fire the gun at anyone or anything they do not intend to (Magtech Ammunition 1). These rules are hung up at every range, can be found almost anywhere, and are taught in every self-defense, hunting, and gun education class. In addition, the side in support of more gun control states
Americans are faced with a big issue of violence in the streets, these streets where elderly people are beaten for their money and women are attacked and raped. Sadly, some people believe that the best way to deal with these violent occurrences is to pass gun control laws that take away legally owned guns from everyone. Not only does gun control end up disarming the innocent but it also violates the Second Amendment. By taking away guns from the American citizens, whom the Second Amendment bestowed onto us this act violates our rights. Unfortunately for those who have legally armed themselves for self-defense, gun control would eventually strip away their ability to fend for themselves. Gun control will also end up causing a rise in crime. By taking away arms from good law abiding citizens and leaving them defenseless, it makes things much easier for criminals by knowing that their victims are not armed. Although the gun ban would take away guns from stores, a criminal will find a way to get their hands on one, imagine that. Gun controls are taking away our rights as citizens. If a law abiding citizen happens to enjoy hunting, they will lose that right. Gun controls are also taking away weapons from citizens. Gun control is not having a positive effect on America because it violates the second amendment, takes away rights and it won’t reduce the crime rate.
The rise in cases of gun violence and related incidences of assault has drawn the public to the issue of guns and gun control. Such has been evident within the spheres of politics especially with the last election period seeing the incumbent president Donald Trump suggesting on stringent gun control laws. However, despite the acknowledgment of the need to have better gun laws, much ground and consensus has never reached. Such, to an extent, contributed to the current lack of political goodwill within the country to have the necessary legislations enacted to facilitate the same on the controls (Grandy 23). Of the guns under question are the assault rifles. Like the military weapons, assault rifles have a destructive potential to causing
The matter of gun control has become an increasingly controversial issue. Whenever, a nationalized tragedy ensues that involves gun violence, the question on what to accomplish regarding America’s gun control takes center stage. While exploring this topic, this essay will attempt to discuss the circumstances that prohibit a person from possessing firearms, also regulations to prevent these persons from possessing firearms. Upon reflecting on the personal side of the gun control debate, stricter gun control begins to infringe upon our rights, as citizens and they should concentrate on enforcing the current laws in the books, instead of making additional laws.
Gun regulation has been a controversial topic since they were first established as a weapon. People for and against gun regulation provide strong arguments for their side. Gun regulation has fluctuated over time due to changes in office. Being a democracy prevents us from having consistency. As a nation we continue to change regulations on guns because of the different views our democracy allows us to have. The main aspects pose the most problems in gun control are violence, illegal sale of guns, and mental health checks.
These days there are many different controversial topics for example, one of these topics is the current situation gun control and whether it should be more or less strict about its rules. I believe that the United States government should increase the amount of gun laws to a federal level so that it would affect all of the states. By doing so it would make it more difficult to attain to guns and it can be kept out of the hands of the wrong people and the black market. By making it more difficult to attain a gun to a certain point people would not want to even purchase one and the more guns that are kept out of the hand of the wrong people and the black market the number of crime and gun related deaths will go down. When guns ended up in the wrong hands incidents like the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting (S. H. Shooting), the Colorado movie theater shooting (C. T. Shooting), and the Virginia Tech shooting happens (Shootings). If we are able to make the current gun control laws stricter we could prevent future travesties like them from occurring.
More gun control means fewer deaths and crimes. Gun control in California is already very strict, but not strict enough. There are many reasons as to why gun control in California should be even stricter. First of all, there are many people out there with mental problems that already own a firearm. If the law were to become stricter, they would have more processing to rule out the mentally unstable from owning any type of firearm. Anyone taking any anti-depressants should automatically be disqualified. There is a good chance that it would most likely, reduce shootings, massacres, suicides, and all other types of incidents that have happened these past couple of years. Most of the past massive shootings are committed by people with mental instability. Secondly, the state should really enforce a very strict background check. Anybody who has a criminal or gang related background should automatically be disqualified from obtaining any type of firearm. Anybody with a violent record should also be disqualified. Lastly, California should make gun control stricter because stricter gun control would mean less crime and a safer state.
Gun Control is a hot debate topic, where people have been divided into two different viewpoints. The majority of states have supported their colleges to carry guns in case of a mass shootout. While the majority of liberals and democrats oppose carrying guns on school property, some states like Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Mississippi have already passed the law to allow students to carry concealed weapons on campuses to protect themselves. The majority of people present their arguments that Gun shouldn’t be allowed on campuses. A campus is a place where students gain knowledge. It is not a battlefield or a place where students should fear their classmates. These days’ people are being irrational about mass shootouts. Media also has a huge responsibility on this issue, and media has the power to provoke fear among people. There are many solutions to fix these problems. Deploying more security could be a solution; it would also create more jobs. Simply handing guns to teachers and students won’t solve the problem of mass shootouts. There might be some students or faculty members who are same minded as shooters. The other solution which could be effective is deploying more police officers onto campuses.
One of the largest issues being discussed today is how can we effectively control guns and limit, or eliminate, gun violence. There is a very large amount of solutions out there, some that are good and some that are not so good. The solutions I have found and will discuss in this paper have been proposed by Todd Miller of Huffington Post, Evan DeFilipps of Washington Post, and Matthew DesChamps of Stamford Advocate. The solutions these authors have proposed just do not solve this issue in the right way, or without creating another issue. After discussing why their proposals will not get the job done, I will offer my solution. I believe that my solution to gun control is the most effective way to control and limit gun related violence while still protecting the rights given by the 2nd Amendment.
On the topic of gun control, the main objective is to aim towards regulation along with the restriction of the possession and the purchasing of firearms. The whole idea that is public policy issue, is due to the fact the right that US citizens have within the second amendment. According to Cornell University Law School in their legal information institute the second amendment is defined as, “"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." (Legal Information Institute) The tension between both the second amendment and the gun control laws, have put America into a stand still whether or not if there should be regulations. The main purpose of
Along with the coal industry, the N.R.A. fuels the Republicans’ stances. Most Americans do support stronger gun laws as they believe it will reduce deaths. However, Republicans in Congress stand in the way of gun control as they fear disappointing a major donor, the NRA. Congress has done nothing in the wake of the numerous shootings in the past few years, except a “largely symbolic ban on bump stocks” (Sykes). Nothing meaningful ever happens in the aftermath of the mass shootings. Instead, Republicans use the usual clichés and excuses for a lack of action. The N.R.A.’s restrictions on bump stocks, which are devices that make semi automatic weapons fire faster, is designed to prevent any more serious restrictions by giving the illusion of action being taken. It substitutes actual gun control with counterfeit gun control. Why does Congress fear the N.R.A.? Simply because Republicans receive major funding from N.R.A. The New York Times recently compiled a list of the top ten recipients of N.R.A. funding, along with their response to the Las Vegas shooting. The entire list consisted of Republican House and Senate members, and all of their responses were something along the lines of “sending my thoughts and prayers” (Leonhardt).. Topping the list was Republican Senator, John McCain who received over $7 million from the NRA. During the 2016 election cycle, the NRA spent $54.4 million with Republicans receiving a whopping $52.6 million and Democrats receiving a measly $265 (Hiltzik). The big money from the NRA is the reason why Republicans are quick to blame mental health for causing the massacres. While it is true that anyone who starts a massacre is mentally ill, the Republicans have done absolutely nothing to prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands. In fact, they have helped them have access to guns. One of Donald Trump’s first bills was a repeal of an “Obama-era regulation that made it harder for people with mental illnesses to purchase a gun” (Vitali). Based on their actions, it seems that the Republicans’ only goals is to increase potential customers for the NRA.
The subject matter in this image is that guns are too easily accessible and have minimal to no restrictions. The image itself is dark and gloomy. It uses dark colors such as black, blue, and gray as well as thickly drawn lines. The word Guns itself is in bold white print with exclamation points and a parenthesis which shapes into a smiley face after the word. It depicts how guns are extremely simple and effortless to access as you can walk straight in with multiple welcoming signs. It also depicts that health care is far more difficult to access than guns. The image shows the words Access to Health Care with bland skinny words and they are on a staircase far too steep to climb. The Second Amendment that states “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” is often misinterpreted and leads to varying gun control laws
Gun control, a very controversial topic that is very important in the United States. Well, why is controversial? To put it simply, it is because we can't seem to agree on how to control guns. The ownership of guns in the United States stems back since its inception, where the founding fathers granted citizens the right to bear arms. Since then, the government has implemented laws and protocol to keep guns out of reach from dangerous people who may use them in ways that put innocent lives in danger. Still, though, in many cases, these efforts are not enough. We still have high amounts of gun-related deaths when compared to other developed countries, and guns are also the leading cause of homicides. So, the gun control itself is absolutely
Indeed, gun control has been to a great degree an emotive issue in the United States for a long time with moving news relying upon specific occasions. Case in point, in the outcome of the Sandy Hook Massacre, numerous residents needed stricter understanding of the Second Amendment to guarantee guns do not fall into the wrong hands (Keidan). Be that as it may, the Boston Marathon besieging changed Americans discernments on their wellbeing. Consequently, in the result of the marathon bombarding, more Americans felt the need some type of self-preservation instrument following the administration demonstrated failure to protect them. The civil arguments on firearm control rage on with both sides guarding their positions on the issue. Some of the divergent points of view vary from authorizing of firearms with some calling for mental assessment of all gun holders (Verma). Another major argument regarding gun control is the effect of firearm possession in uplifting aggressive behavior at home.
Gun control plays a major part in today's society, from school shootings, to hunting for food, guns are what the issues are revolved around. Our president has made some comments about gun controll, "I believe in the Second Amendment, there written on paper, that guarantees the right to bear arms," said Obama, (http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/05/politics/obama-executive-action-gun-control/) The topic of either or not we should have guns has been plaguing our country's conversations for many years. We need to educate the general public on gun safety. If most people are safe and know what they are doing with a gun, generally, there won be as many accidental shootings, and kids playing with guns, now knowing what they are. "I’m not asking you to
Guns have been around for a long time, and have become essential to many Americans lifestyle. Many people use their guns to hunt, for protection, and enjoyment. It seems as if guns are in the news more often, and it appears they are. Unfortunately there have been mass shootings that have killed many people, including young children. These children and teens had so much to live for, but their lives were cut short due to someone owning a gun, who was mentally unstable. There has been push for more gun control, but it seems as if the government is afraid to move forward to protect the citizens of America.
