Same-sex marriage should be marriage because everyone is equal, love is always right, and people have a right to choose their own soulmates. First, equality is a basic right, which means everyone should get the same treatment. The restriction against same-sex marriage is an offense to the dignity of lesbians and gays, because it limits the range of relationship options open to them (Mello). The limit of same-sex marriage is against homosexuals to enjoy the same right as heterosexuals. It is not fair for homosexual to get the different treatment. There is a law to declare that legalizing homosexual marriage is to achieve the basis of equality come true. (Albertson).

Gay marriage has been an issue for a very long time and since some states are legalizing it, many worry that it would soon be added as an amendment. The topic of gay marriage brings up religious, legal, and many other issues. In "What's wrong with Gay Marriage?" by Katha Pollitt, the author supports gay marriage and wants it legalized. She states that there is no problem with gay marriage and it's all a matter of separating the church and state. But in “Gay ‘Marriage’: Societal Suicide,” by Charles Colson, the author opposes the idea of gay marriage and states that it will destroy society. Over 70% of the country agrees that gay couples should not be allowed to wed. Many have religious beliefs that God made men and women to marry and procreate. Some feel uncomfortable with the idea of two men being attracted to each other as well as two women being attracted to each other. Society has formed the idea that marriage is to be between a man and a woman so seeing anything different seems unnatural to some. However, many of these people are closed minded to the idea of gay marriage because it is different from their own personal lifestyle.

I support same-sex marriage because I see no valid arguments against it. The majority of arguments against gay marriage are based on religious perspective. In the United States, the First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees separation of church and state. Therefore, religion should not have a place in either the formulation or implementation of legislation, including questions of who has the right to get married in this country.

Gay marriage has been one of the most common topic under discussion, arguments and quarrels since couple of years in almost every nation of the world. I agree with you that not allowing homosexual people to marry robs them of their rights and it does make them second-class citizens. They should be allowed the same rights as anyone else because love is love. Society should not have the right to deny them of marriage because their preference does not fit “societal norms”. This is unfair to these people and by far not right.
