1. The mission of this organization is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the constitution and laws of the United States."
2. Internet Speech- The ACLU has been at the bleeding edge of ensuring on the web opportunity of articulation in its horde frames. We acquired the main case which the U.S. Preeminent Court pronounced discourse on the Internet similarly deserving of the First Amendment's authentic insurances. All things considered, Reno v. American Civil Liberties Union, the Supreme Court held that the legislature can no more limit a man's entrance to words or pictures on the Internet than it can grab a book out of somebody's hands or conceal a bare statue in an exhibition hall. The ACLU is concerned because they believe in an Internet, an immense free-discourse zone meriting in any event as much First Amendment security as that stood to customary media, for example, books, daily papers, and magazines. A) Net neutrality- Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites. Net neutrality maintains an open and accessible Internet is one of the most important free speech issues of our time. Net neutrality article on ACLU talked about how they have been supporting for an
What is net neutrality? Net neutrality is when an internet service provider can block us from being able to use whatever application, web site, and products we may desire to use unless we basically pay for them, therefore limiting our access to whatever we desire.
First thing I want to point out what is net neutrality. Net neutrality is limiting internet service providers, such as AT&T, Verizon, Century Link, Comcast, MediaCom, etc., from charging their customers where they are using their internet. Right now internet service providers can slow access to certain cites and speed the internet upon other cites, they are basically controlling where people go and what they do on the web. They charge certain companies more for the customer’s use of that cite and then, in turn, those companies charge more to their customers. Basically net neutrality is making the internet a fair place that everyone can use without having to worry about if the internet site they use is going to be slow or if they will be going
What is Net Neutrality? Well net neutrality is a principle that individuals should have free access to internet. The user can have access to all the content and applications equally, regardless of the source, without the internet service provider (ISP)to discriminate against the specific online service or websites. As the question, has risen, is net neutrality a good thing? In my opinion, the answer is yes in modern time the internet is our freedom of speech that preserve the fact that the government shouldn’t have control or regulate any information over personal data use as it preserves undistorted consumers’ freedom of choice. One essential principles are the end-to-end principle: the links in the network, which its sole purpose of getting
This presentation by Eric Foner is a transcript from a conference that was held in the United States in 2005. In this presentation, Foner speaks about the First Amendment of a citizens right to carry out free speech, and how freedom of expression is limited by not only the US Government, but by other individuals trying to silence the opinion of others. Foner also speaks about the fact that the US Government has used ‘national security’ as grounds to limit free speech in the past, which has many times proved to be a miscarriage of

The internet has put the world literally at anyone’s fingertips with a vast quantity of information is a mouse-click away. Information that was once only available in obscure reference libraries or card catalogs can be accessed by everyone. Unfortunately the internet is an equal opportunity tool, and those with virtuous as well as nefarious intentions can use this open resource to further their efforts to levels heretofore unheard of. The internet is also soapbox for free speech that epitomizes the intentions of the founding fathers to allow everyone the same opportunity to have their opinions aired. There is a line that often blurs between legitimate and illegal behavior, when does harsh criticism become bullying, when does an expression
Tim Berners-Lee said “Freedom of connection with any application to any party is the fundamental social basis of the internet. And now, is the basis of the society built on the internet.” Net Neutrality is the idea that Internet service providers shouldn’t block or deny access to certain websites or content but should allow access to all content by everyone. The major controversy with net neutrality is that FCC is putting regulations on internet service providers. The FCC is proposing to protect net neutrality by enforcing new rules on internet service providers under Title II of the communications act. The FCC would be given the power to prevent these providers from banning any legal service or website. To outlaw fees for faster service, to ban the impairing or degrading of internet traffic. Those who support net neutrality are major tech companies including Google, Facebook, Netflix, Mozilla, Etsy and Reddit. They argue that without strong regulation, cable companies could “pick the winners” online, providing better service for their own
With the internet growing larger and larger each day, it has been a place where communication and the transfer of information happens within seconds. The internet is a place where the freedom of speech is shown and show the creativity of people. Net neutrality has caught the interest in many people in the United States. With this hot topic debate, President Barack Obama 's position on the subject is wanting a “free and open” internet for fair access to any website (Net Neutrality: A Free and Open Internet, 2015). In the United States, we should maintain a state of net neutrality because it provides an equal opportunity for companies to compete, prevents restrictions on websites, and showcases our fundamental rights to the world.
Net Neutrality is a basic principle within the internet that basically keeps everything equal by not allowing governments or internet service providers (ISP) to charge us extra or treat sources, providers, content, or platforms differently. Net neutrality has been an issue in the United States that has been widely debated since the 1990’s (when the world wide web was created). Many large scale ISP’s within the United States claim to be for the idea of net neutrality however some people believe this not to be the case. Without net neutrality principles in place, ISP’s could control everything we do which could be used to block certain things making the ISPs able to charge us more for these services. The ability to make more money by charging

Net neutrality is the idea of internet users should have equal access to internet content without any restrictions. Net neutrality has been around since the early 2000’s and it is a debate between government regulations concerning internet content and Internet providers (ISPs). This debate covers a set of Internet rules imposed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Internet providers efforts to reduce access to certain sites or internet services.

Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers and governments regulating the Internet must treat all data on the Internet the same, not discriminating or charging differentially by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or mode of communication.[1]Article 3 of EU Regulation 2015/2120[111] sets the basic framework for ensuring net neutrality across the entire European Union.
Free expression allows for people to seek the complete truth regarding an issue, establish a functioning democracy, and express themselves as they wish. While the theories of Chafee and Meiklejohn may set certain limits on different types of expression, they also emphasize and support the fundamental importance of free speech in maintaining a democracy. Finally, even in stating my own opinion about free speech, I am demonstrating why it is important: citizens of the United States can express themselves to the best of their ability and fulfill their human need to simply express themselves without worry fear of prison. Thus, while dealing with national controversies, such as Edward Snowden, can begin arguments over the need for such a wide protection of free speech, it is important to reflect back on the First Amendment and the reasoning behind its establishment. In this manner, the American people can become more appreciative of this unique right and more willing to protect it if ever under siege by the
Net neutrality is the principle that internet providers and the government should treat all data on the internet the same it was recently favored on February 26, 2015 which reclassified broadband as a common carrier under title II and communications act of 1934. According to the federal communications commission, this was finalized April 13, 2015. They state, “The rules are designed to protect free expression and innovation on the internet and promote investment in the nations broadband networks.” This means that the internet is considered “Open internet” as a concept to equally provide free and available creations to the public that won’t allow their ISP to completely take over with their financial motives. There are some people however who are against net neutrality, namely Ajit Pai, an FCC chairman who was recently backed by Trump. There are a few ISPs (Internet service providers) who have abused their power back when net neutrality wasn’t solidified. Due to the internet changing so much, without a strong backbone or net neutrality the internet could become a something similar a closed net rather than an open net. This could lead to internet companies affecting our everyday online freedoms. Which could lead to stifled growth, fewer jobs, and monopolies. Net neutrality is essential because it provides equal grounds for everyone, and it doesn’t discriminate towards any individuals.
