On behalf of the government of our beautiful nation, we apologize, we apologize for all the wrongdoings that was inflicted upon you and your people. The ban that we created on the subsidies on you, the inhabitants of Chiapas, was approved to secure a deal with our neighbours to the north, and will benefit millions of our residents, for the cost of only a few. Your response to our ban may have brought some unwanted global attention, but it did shine a light on the key issues that you face. We have realized that this was unlawful and our duty to the citizens of Mexico extends to you and other Indigenous groups and for that, we apologize. We also recognize that the decisions that are being made to influence the future of this country should involve
The roots of a slower development in Mexico compared to the neighbouring United States can be found in the two different types of colonization that the countries received. North America’s English colonies were based on agriculture and industry in order to create a sustainable community since there was no sign of valuable natural resources to exploit. The settlers of Jamestown, the first successful English colony, brought sugar cane and couldn’t get it to grow so the colonies turn out to be similar to communities inhabited by emigrated British which occupy land by expelling the natives living in the region. The Spanish colonizers in Mexico were luckier in terms of resources found, the area was rich of gold and minerals and most of them were
More than 60,000 people have been killed in the ongoing drug war in Mexico. The fact that this violence has yet to reach its acme is quiet frightening. The freight instilled in the tourist that once found the many hotspots located in Mexico such as Acapulco and Cancun are now terrified to set foot in the land. Due to the fact that there is no safe or secure area where tourist can venture out for a good time. Due to violence Mexico has been affected with a lack of tourist, revenue and its acclaimed bad reputation.
n an oral history interview conducted in 2011, Chicana scholar Keta Miranda shared a startling observation about her experiences during the early days of the Chicana/o movement.1 In 1969, Miranda, who was becoming increasingly involved in the student movement in Los Angeles, traveled to Denver to take part in the first Chicano Youth Liberation Conference. She vividly recalls participating in workshops on electoral politics, police repression, and education, all of which were meant to set a nationalist agenda for the Chicana/o movement. The first Youth Liberation Conference responded to a pressing need to unite an array of decolonial struggles for Chicana/o self-determination—from the land-grant movement in New Mexico and Arizona ðled by Reies
Since 1994, New Mexico City had seen a drastic increase in their crime rates after the three strikes law was enacted in the state. The drastic increase in crime rate after the three strikes law was passed is one of the few reasons why New Mexico city to be known as a second hazardous nation in the United States. In New Mexico, the three strikes law is mainly only enforced for five specific strikes where the city police and court will be able to take an action against those repeat criminals for their crimes. Five specific strikes where the court or police can take action are Kidnapping, shooting, criminal sexual penetration, murder, and armed robbery. However, if there were more crimes were added to the New Mexico strikes then there would have been so many less crimes that would have taken place on the streets. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, “Prisoners in 2013” by E. Ann Carson, Ph.D., BJS Statistician shows that in Table 1 prisoners under the jurisdiction of state or federal correctional authorities by sex, December 31, 2012 and 2013, in New Mexico there were about 6,727 people who were arrested for committing serious crimes where there 6,096 male, and 631 female in 2012. Moreover, in 2013, in New Mexico there were about 6,849 prisoners who were arrested for committing crimes where there were 6,195 male and 654 female. This statistics shows that after the three strikes law was ratified, there was dramatically increased in the prison
I am writing this letter to respectively bring your attention to the Mexican-American border, its damaging effect on the United States economy, and potential solutions to this specific situation which has become known as the Border Crisis. As you may already know, the border runs from Tijuana, Baja California to Tamaulipas and Texas. According to the International Boundary and Water Commission, the border’s length is 1,954 miles and is the most frequently crossed international border, mainly by undocumented immigrants from Mexico and Central America. As an attempt to contain this influx of illegal migration, former President George W. Bush signed the Secure Fence Act of 2006 stating, “This bill will help protect American people. This bill will make our borders more secure. It is an important step toward immigration reform.” While Mr. Bush may have had the United States’ safety at heart, one must question if the border fence is actually helping the economy or hurting it? There are several problems that have risen following the creation of the border fence; immigrants coming from The Northern Triangle have actually increased, Texas has become the deadliest entry state, undocumented and unaccompanied children are costing taxpayers even more, and simply maintaining the border fence is a very high cost.
In chapter two of Martinez’s Phenomenology of Chicana Experience and Identity: Communication and Transformation in Praxis, Martinez uses her third identifying ethnic mode of consciousness, the knowing - unknown to investigate her father’s mostly hidden heritage. She uses the knowing - unknown mode of consciousness to attempt a rediscovery of her hidden Chicana identity. However, Martinez’s investigation of her father’s mostly hidden heritage creates an indirect silence about her mother’s heritage. In chapter three, Martinez’s exploration of her Chicana lesbian identity rests primarily in the Chicana history and she disregards the Anglo’s history of lesbian identity. Because of this, it may be argued that Martinez has a stronger connection to her father’s cultural roots over her mother’s Native American, mostly white heritage in attempting to rediscover her Chicana racial and sexual identity.
Mr Bascana, I urge you to reconsider your views on the Indians you and your countrymen have encountered since arriving to this land. Although our various tribes may not share your same beliefs and values we are still equal human beings. Most of the natives you have encountered have not been hostile and have exchanged gifts and good with one another. The fact that you would accuse the natives of hypocrisy and deceitfulness is unjust because it is the Spaniards not the indians who have sought to deceive. Do not forget that you are all visitors to our land, however your soldiers have deliberately sought to destroy my people’s way of life.
America’s open border is one of the biggest issues that faces the American society nowadays. The society is divided into two teams the first team supports opening the borders and the second team refuses opening US’s borders. Defenders see that opening US’s boarders will improve the economy and no matter what if the immigrant is low or high skilled, he will benefit the society by producing new products that will help in increasing the productivity of this country if he is high skilled or have them occupy domestic jobs to free up Americans to take high skilled jobs. On the other hand, there is a different team that supports closing boarders. The people in this team feel that opening the boarders hurt US workers and push them to compete with illegal immigrant for jobs.
“I am grateful for your invitation to address this Joint Meeting of Congress. It is a honor of being here. I would like to express my sincere recognition to all Senators and Representatives of the United States present as well as to all the people that work hard to build this blessed country. The efforts done by the Congress of the United States is for all the people and for the benefits of the next generation. We know that the responsibility of Congress is to contribute, under their legislature, to the growth of the nation and the good of all its people. We also have a responsibility to provide security and sustainability to our families as well as to the nation that gives us freedom and great opportunities to go beyond our expectations.
Recently, Mexico has been facing a horrendous civil war. This internal conflict is coming from the country’s powerful drug leaders. This epic drug war was been taking place ever since these “cartels” relocated from the South American nation of Columbia to Mexico in the mid 1980s. since then , this bloody conflict has arose several issues in Mexico. Mexico’s new president, Felipe Calderon, just recently launched an all out military campaign against these drug lords in 2007. This campaign included increased military personnel stationed in locations of intense combat. These increased troops eventually ammounted to more than 25,000 troops stationed throughout
This event seems to be important because Undocumented movement is something very important these days and I cherished the appeal that this book gave for that experience. It's so difficult to consume everything that is happening while its being taken away from you. I realize that the subject must've been truly difficult for Guerrero to discuss. Although I seem to believe how useful it is to hear stories like this with the goal that more people can understand that this is something real and that is happening to individuals out there.
Every day the U.S. border patrol has to constantly keep an eye out for the smuggling of drugs by Mexican Cartels. There has been much violence due to this drug problem that has left many people near the border killed and is allowing more criminals to obtain these weapons. A lot of this attention goes to the U.S. because many of the weapons utilized in the “drug war” are U.S. made and is interfering with trading relations amongst both the U.S. and Mexico. With this current violent situation in Mexico this has transformed the flow of weapons to an even larger scale.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Hope each and every one of you in Mexico and around the world are doing well. First of all, I would like to extend our warmest gratitude to His Excellency Modi, for allowing me to take His place. A kind and an understanding soul, who realized since we are sharing a long border with the United States of America, not only I need, but also loved to be here. Like His better half, God bless Him for running His beloved nation of India as smooth as silk. I, and the millions of Afghans are wishing His Excellency had a brother, who can run the Land of His Holiness Ancestors Afghanistan. I must add, His Holiness could've not explain the current situation in America and around the world any better. Today, the God chosen one,
The Zapatista people were formed in a jungle in Chiapas, Mexico where they started to grow in numbers and started forming a small rural town. They are a movement, they are a revolution. The Zapatistas are men, women and children. The Zapatistas are farmers they call the earth their mother and call themselves the people of corn. The Zapatistas are indigenous Mayan people whom speak many languages and come from many cultures. They did not have any money nor were part of the Chiapas community. Ever since they started they wanted to stay in their own place and not get involved with anyone else’s problems. I believe The Zapatistas should get their own Nation because they have shown initiative and the power it will take them to become one. They also have sufficient land and people to call themselves a nation. The Zapatistas also have their own government and laws.
The use of marijuana in Mexico has been legally permitted by the government for personal use; however, it was just for the four plaintiffs, who won their case on the higher law. But, in spite of the limited legalization, it is still use by the many - - especially as a traditional herbal medicine.
