Out of all the vast variety of sports there are, baseball is the most challenging and difficult sport to play. No other sport compares to the degree of difficulty that you have to deal with, like you do in playing the game of baseball. There are so many different elements that make this game the most difficult. Three major elements stick out in my mind as to why this wonderful sport is the toughest of all. The three main factors in my mind are the increased physical and hand eye coordination component, the mental aspect of this game, and the human interdependence between umpires, which are a vital part in every play.

Baseball players have less than 0.40 seconds to defend themselves from a whirling 100 mph ball hit by a 200lbs beast. And take into consideration that if the fielder takes more than 4.5 seconds to field and throw the ball to first base, then it becomes impossible for them to throw the runner out. The motor, cognitive, and visual skills needed to succeed in baseball may explain why many believe baseball is harder than softball.

In each half of an inning one team bats while the other plays the field. If the score is tied after nine innings are over then the game is continued into extra innings and is concluded when one team is winning after an extra inning. These are the basic rules of baseball.

Throughout the years, baseball has seen it’s fair share of great players and managers while evolving into the sport we know and love today, but not without controversy.

While that may be a slight exaggeration, the foundation of the game has remained largely unchanged on the professional level for decades. In 2003, David “Boomer” Wells claimed that up to 40% of major leaguers used steroids, and then in 2005, Jose Canseco addressed the media with stating that 80% of major leaguers had taken steroids, and have credited the drug for their entire career (Gilman, 2013, p.2). So the facts are there, players are using and abusing to cheat their way into the HOF (Hall of Fame). The one time strike is followed without pay, because the player will not completely process the magnitude of what he did was wrong.
