The topic we chose for our National History Day project was animal liberation. This not only has a special place in our interests and beliefs but in many other peoples’ all around the globe. One by one, people are starting to understand that animals are important creatures too and not just here on this Earth for our own selfish use. Finally, we as people, are trying to do something about it by taking a stand. So, there are definitely many valuable reasons why this movement is important to us and several other individuals. We got the ideas for this topic from the clear fact that animals in today’s world are just not treated correctly. Every single day, countless creatures are abused, neglected, and we decided we wanted to speak up for them. According to the ASPCA organization, 2.7 million animals come into an animal shelter abused and frightened every year. Since they cannot form words themselves, we as people need to know when they need help from us. Yet, some of us cruelly do the complete opposite. Leaving a poor dog outside in the frigid temperatures or laying a hand on an animal are just a few examples of what some horrid people …show more content…
We all wish they could tell us exactly what they want exactly when they need it. But that is not the case. In reality, they just hope we can understand their body language and oblige to them. People today are taking a stand for them in many different, helpful ways. Some are becoming vegan or vegetarian to support their beliefs and some are speaking in public places to spread their much needed word. As of 2014, 16 million people had become vegan or vegetarian to help support the rights of animals. This topic is important in history because without these animal liberation movements, they would still be treated as a product on a grocery store shelf and not living, breathing creatures that have feelings of their
Animal Cruelty is a problem that many ignore. People are oblivious to these animals and the negligence their owners show. Animal cruelty is an underlying problem in today’s society, and the only way to counteract these problems, is for this generation to do something about it.
1. ATTENTION GETTER: Millions of animals are abused each year. Over a million of these animals are abused or killed just due to the involvement with domestic violence. Despite animal cruelty being a felony which can result in jail time for over 15 years and 500,000 dollars in fines, it is still an issue which occurs on a daily basis across the United States. It is important for these animals to not go unnoticed, which can be achieved if society became more enlightened and educated on the topic of animal cruelty. (Pacelle, 2011).
The overall mission of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is to “be a voice for animals” (ASPCA). That mission is accomplished by providing an appealing website that effectively educates visitors not only on the major concerns but also on the need for their involvement if they hope to make progress towards solving those issues. Through continued traffic, to their website, the ASPCA aims to gain new supporters who they hope will become educators and ambassadors of their mission to further reduce the number of homeless animals and to end animal
Every 60 seconds an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
Many people enjoy companionship with their animals; however, according to the American Society For the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), “every 60 seconds, another animal is abused.” Animals are often neglected in ways such as improper feeding, dog fighting, cockfighting, and being bred in puppy mills. In order to end animal abuse, people need to be enlightened about the multiple ways animals can be abused. Awareness of activities surrounding animal abuse will help decreases animal abuse. Education is of utmost importance in preventing animal abuse.
Whether we think about it or not, our views on animal rights affect the choices we make every day from the foods we eat, the clothes we wear, the products we use on our skin, the medicine we take, and even the pets we may or may not keep in our home. Each of these choices hinge on our views of animal rights. Although animal rights are not a new issue we are facing here in the U.S., recent events have brought them back into the foreground. News stories like the slaying of Cecil the lion, and Harambe the gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo in this past year have brought renewed interest to those of all ages thanks to social media and national press time.
Over the centuries, animals have suffered from cruelty from humans. In the United States, animals are beaten, neglected, or forced to struggle for survival. Animals have been inflicted with pain from humans for reasons other than self-defense. They have been slaughtered for their food and fur for personal gain in profit. In a majority of cases they have even been abused for someone’s own personal amusement or out of rage filled impulses. In some cases animals are found and rescued. They are given the second chance in life to experience what life should be like compared to what they once had.
Animal abuse is a serious topic that occurs every day. This happens every day, everywhere. Together people could change the world. Animal abuse is a major cause all around
As an animal lover, it pains me immensely to see an animal in distress. Animals subjected to abuse have no one to defend them, therefore humans need to speak out as their voices. Unfortunately, in our world, many people have a lack self-restraint and control; their defenceless animals become punching bags. I devote my life to helping animals in any way I can. Often times the abused horses and dogs sent to my barn require immense care and attention. I consistently provide the support these underprivileged animals crave. One cannot imagine the horrors that animals rescued and given to my property have faced, but my boundless love and guardianship always goes a vast way. Humans should strive to make eliminating animal
Yet intervention is often reserved for those who have the will to step up when others don’t feel empowered to do so. We serve our community by taking action in instances of animal cruelty, neglect, and abandonment. We have rescued and rehabilitated animals who have been starved to emaciation, beaten, confined in their own waste, shot, and struck by cars. Reducing the incidence of cruelty and healing the wounds of cruelty is our primary concern.
Today the world is made up of many groups fighting for the same basic right: equality.Yet, the ones who are unable to voice their opinions or speak their minds are left in the dust and at the whim of others opinions. Millions of animals all around the world are being neglected, tortured, abused, and all for the benefits of the human kind. However, there are individuals and organizations who are determined to make a change for these helpless animals such as: Peta, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Food Empowerment Project, and the list continues. Although, these animal activist groups are breaking boundaries that have never been broken before, there is still an argument for animal cruelty. The fight for animal equality is no different than the fights amongst our own kind. Nevertheless, many
My topic for History Day is Jonas Salk. I have conducted research by reading the book Polio by David M. Oshinsky and articles on Uconn library database. At this point, I trying to prove that Jonas Salk took a stand against opposition and brought change. I will be doing the essay option to present my findings because I don’t like the other options. One question I have in this process is, does taking a stand have to be people actually protesting against something. Also even though Jonas Salk had a skeptical audience he didn’t really fight against anyone. Do we have to do a interview like the American studies? I don’t need anything at this moment.
Animals are a big part of many people’s lives. They provide companionship; they provide daily assistance to those that have deficits and are having difficulty functioning in their daily life; they provide security and help keep a watchful eye on things, plus so much more. And yet, with all that animals do for us, there are those that are treated with such little regard, care, and cruelty. They are unable to speak for themselves and therefore, they need a voice to speak for them.
Each year, the most extreme cases of animal abuse receive media attention. Yet, the animal cruelty problem is more widespread than is reported in the media. Animal abuse and neglect is a nationwide issue, affecting thousands of animals nationwide. Cruelty to animals is defined as the infliction of physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, beyond what is necessary. There is a need to stop abusers from acting in such a horrific manner–preventing the neglect and suffering of the animals. What causes animal abusers to act in such a cruel way towards animals? How are cases of animal abuse being managed, and how should cases be handled? Finally, does the status of animals in society contribute to the rate of their abuse?
Animal rights activists have played a major role in changing how animals are viewed and treating in many countries,
