The first and most important event to me is the American Revolution. This shaped our country because this is the war that made us independent from Britain. If this war hadn’t of happened or gone differently, than we would be a completely different nation today. If we had lost the war and hadn’t become independent from Great Britain, we might still be under their control today. Without this event our entire would be shaped differently, we really had to have this happen. The second most important event is 9-11. This was a tragic event, but in the end it helped the U.S. come together and be stronger. This event helped bring out weaknesses in our country, and helped us to fix those weaknesses. It brought us together as a country and a nation. …show more content…
This event is what helped make this country what it is today. If Thomas Jefferson hadn’t purchased that territory, I don’t know what would have happened, but it probably wouldn’t have been good. The Louisiana Purchase helped our nation to understand and realize that growing would be good, and that it needed to happen. If this event hadn’t occurred then we wouldn’t have 50 states, we would only have a few. The fourth event on my list is the Apollo 11. This was the space shuttle that took us to the moon. This event marked a great day in our history. This proved that we could travel space and go new places. Of all the events in history, many are sad, but this is a happy event. This boosted American pride and showed we were a strong nation. This might not be an event you always hear about in history, but it is important all the same. The fifth, and final, event that I chose is the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl is another sad time in our history. This harmed not only people, but the environment and agriculture as well. It damaged many U.S. prairies and Canadian prairies. This event also isn’t talked about in great depth and detail like wars are, but it too is important. This event served as a wake-up call to the many Americans who were farmers. It helped our country to realize that what we have, we need to use wisely so that it doesn’t go to
Entering his presidency, Thomas Jefferson did not intend on expanding the land of the newborn country, the United States of America, but soon discovered a deal in his hands that was too good to refuse. The Louisiana Purchase of 1803, was debated as unconstitutional or illegal. Secondly, the Louisiana Purchase was a vast area of land that stretched approximately 820,000 square miles, the territory reached from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains, to the Gulf of Mexico, and Canada impacting thousands different groups of people. The Louisiana Purchase of 1803, was debated as unconstitutional or illegal. The Louisiana Purchase territory was one of the biggest land sales in World History causing heated debates as on how unconstitutional it and President Jefferson were at the time, it’s vast area of land it covered effected multiple groups in the country, and still to this day the purchase affects American lives.
What do you think have been the five most important events in U.S. history since WWII?
Major Events- List of 10 (in no particular order, to be frank I forget the exact order and didn’t use sticky notes like I usually would, so the order of events is probably off)
Although Thomas Jefferson came to power determined to limit the influence of the federal government, “foreign affairs dominated his presidency and pushed him toward Federalist policies” that greatly contrasted with his political philosophy (millercenter.org). The Louisiana Purchase was an example of large government using its federal power to initiate action. Jefferson was hesitant about the purchase since the whole transaction went against constitutional and presidential powers he believed in. However, the desire to purchase the territory “outweighed all of these practical and theoretical objections” (encyclopedia.com). While completing the purchase, Jefferson concerned himself with the future and best interests of America and his fellow companions. In a letter written to John C. Breckenridge, Thomas Jefferson confirms that he bought the land for the satisfaction of others when he says, “I did this for your good… I thought it my duty to risk myself for you.” (Thomas Jefferson to John C. Breckenridge 12 August 1803). When the purchase of Louisiana finished, there was no way for the colonists to really know what lay out there, “hence why an expedition had to first be sent out to map” and understand the land. If the land turned out to be “habitable and could eventually flourish”, this would be a big win for Jefferson (enotes.com). If, on the other hand, something about the land was damaged or was unlivable, the United States would be left with a large piece of territory that can't be used, and Jefferson's reputation would be shattered. Fortunately, the property was fit for human habitation and as the nation began to migrate to the land, America doubled in size and became stronger than ever. The increases in population, commerce, mining, and agriculture the Louisiana Purchase allowed worked to reinforce the nation as a whole. The
President Thomas Jefferson had a dilemma. His country The United States was no longer allowed to use the waterway that kept his growing nation alive. He knew the danger of not having access to the waterport; so he made his controversial decision of the “Louisiana Purchase.” This decision had a lasting effect on The United States. Thomas Jefferson’s decision on the “Louisiana Purchase” had a positive impact on history.
The Louisiana Purchase was the cause of many huge event in American, and world history. When you hear “The Louisiana Purchase” our first thoughts are usually the French selling land they owned to us in 1803. However, you can look back more than 100 years and see the Louisiana Territory was their causing some major events that took place all over The land even helped caused wars between many different groups.
First up in the number one spot is the American Revolution. I think that the American Revolution is easily one of the most important events in U.S. history. The patriots (Americans) beat the greatest military force at the time. The americans, under enormous amounts of pressure to win the war pulled through and wrecked the British. This set the look that America was a force to be reckoned with. Britain created some acts, the acts annoyed the Americans, so they fought for independence. I think this event is number one because it was the birth of our beautiful country.
The most important event in my life was the Lewis and Clark expedition. I had been recruited by my friend, Meriwether Lewis, to embark on this expedition to explore the territory of the Louisiana
The most significant event in the United States history occurred on September 11th, 2001, the terrorist act involving planes on the World Trade Center towards the United States. This is the most significant event because of the way it changed the USA. The civilians were hurt physically and mentally from this terrorist attack. Families were broken apart, jobs were lost, and 2,977 people lost their lives. This event was very tragic and sad, but it also brought a lot of people together, through kindness and love. Significant means for something to be noteworthy, and this is one event that we should never forget.
If I could add one event of U.S History to the current list of ten, I would add The Attack on Pearl Harbor. The Attack on Pearl Harbor took place on December 7, 1941. The events that took place at Pearl Harbor provide insight into the isolationism that preceded the war and the world wide engagement that followed it. This event is a perfect definition of a historic event because its ramifications have made their way through the end of the 20th century and even into the 21st. Although Pearl Harbor was a crime ridden and pain stricken event, it ended up unifying our country and inducing the patriotism that we still experience to this day. Unfortunately, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor also culminated a series of misfortunate events that would
Throughout American history many events have taken place, from the arrival of the first colonist to the Boston Massacre and even the formation of the first Continental Congress. But some of the more impactful events that are significant in my opinion that have made America the superior country that it is today, are the importation of slaves into the colonies, the Intolerable Acts and the Boston
In this paper I will be interviewing people that I know personally and they were asked what they think is the most significant event in all of american history For these interviews I talked to my cousin, my dad, and my grandmother. My cousin is 20 while my dad is 49 and my grandmother is 70, I thought that it was very interesting hearing everyone's reasons for picking the event that they chose.
The 1st event I’m going to be talking about is the Emancipation Proclamation. This unofficial law was made to free all slaves in the Northern USA. This law was not made by congress, it was made by the president himself, Abraham Lincoln. This took place in 1863. The south didn’t abide by these laws until about 5 years after. This has an economic impact because right there a good bit of slaves were no longer slaves, to slave owners couldn't make money off of slaves
I chose Canada leaving Afghanistan, Stephen Harper Apologizing to the Indigenous people and the University of Montreal massacre as my three other events. Firstly, Canada leaving Afghanistan is significant because it affected people deeply. Canada spent 12 years in Afghanistan on a mission to help stop the radical extremist group the Taliban. Canada was recognized for their acts of brave and effort. When troops leave on March 24, 2014, Canadians are extremely happy to get their soldiers back but also remember the 158 Canadian lives that were lost there. Secondly, Stephen Harper apologizing to the Indigenous peoples is significant because he was the first Prime Minister to do so. Residential schools were kept a secret and the PM brought the
For my course project I chose to review and analyze the sessions of the October 1996 General Conference. The significant family event that occurred during that year was the marriage of my parents in July. Some notable events that occurred, in America, around this time was the US presidential election where Bill Clinton was elected for a second term and NASA launched the Mars Global Surveyor.
