The world is a very huge place with a population of more than 7 billion people and always growing. Australian population growth is already leading to a range of pressure. Australia is one of most urbanized countries in the world and significant population growth is already leading to a range of pressure in many cities (Maclntosh, Sarker & Boyd, 2010). A recent report commissioned by Griffith University's urban research program suggests that South East Queensland is receiving an additional 1500 residents each week and is expected to add another 1 million by 2026. Proponents of population growth believe that population growth is positive to a country. A growing population can bring economic benefits (Hartwich & Brown, 2012). Opponent of population growth convinced that population growth is negative to a country. Population growth is creating problems with traffic condition, water, waste disposal and health care (Sobles, 2013). This essay will argue that high population growth will make negative effects to a country because of environmental problems, infrastructure for human wants and needs and ageing population.
Overpopulation is a hot topic that is becoming a well-known problem that world faces. Population growth creates negative effects to the environment in Australia. Not only the number of people, but also the lifestyle, consumption patterns, and regions people inhabit and use directly affect the environment. Because of the high population and for their wants and needs
Over the past years, there has been an exceptionally large national increase which has caused several population issues. These issues include: homelessness, deforestation and more fields being used to make space for shops and houses disrupting the biodiversity growth. Problems like this are caused when there is an abnormal increase in the birth rate where more babies are born; this is also known as a ‘baby boom’. This can occur when nations have more children as a whole and events like this normally takes place after an achievement – an example being when we won the World War Two. The country was relieved that the fighting was over so their instantly celebrated which is why more children were born. In the last 50 years alone, the population has doubled showing just how fast the population is actually growing and even though it may seem fortunate that there are less recorded deaths, this makes the Economical
Australia’s population is currently 23.8 million and is still growing. In 1960 it was 10 million and at this rate it is expected to reach 42 million by 2050. The population growth and natural increase rate of Australia is affected by The Baby Bonus and Paid Parental Leave and the ageing population structure and The Pension, as well as the current spatial distribution of Australia with policies such as Satellite Cities. Using these policies and statistics the optimum population for Australia is 25 million. There is no clear right or wrong answer to the optimum population; it all depends on the opinions of Australians.
In his article ‘One big happy family’ (The Australian, 31 October, 2009, pg. 58) Bernard Salt discusses the problems surrounding population growth in Australia; he recognises the concern the impact can have on resources, however Salt questions whether these concerns are valid.
The article mentioned above, discusses the increase in population in various parts of Australia due to an increase in Migration. Due to this frequent migration, Australia’s population is growing extremely fast and with this population growth, Sydney and Melbourne will soon be as big as London and Hong Kong. The article also states that there will be a population rise of about 11.8 million people in the next 25 years. As the article talks about population and migration, it is closely related to chapters 5 and 6 of the book with the theme of population and migration.
Newcastle’s population is approximately over 500,000 people but is one of the more populated cities (not including capital cities) in Australia. Newcastle has shown to not have significant increase throughout the years and is expected to not grow dramatically. In 2001 the population was just under 500,000 people and until today, has increased by a couple tens of thousands of people within 14 years. This trend is also predicted to continue in the future. Newcastle Herald has written an article stating that the predicted number of people that will be living in New South Wales will dramatically increase to 1 million in population by 2050. However, this seems improbable, due to the fact that it’s predicted to double its entire
Population is one of the most focus issues in Australia. According to Australian Bureau of Statistic (ABS) (2008), through the change and distribution of the population can affects the policy, economic performance, social service. Because most policies and service will have based on population to revise. Here will discuss the population change, population growth rate and the population distribution in states and territories of Australia by using the census periods on 1996, 2001 and 2006. That to show the population appearance of Australia.
Population continued to grow rapidly from the years 2001–2010 with little to no sign of slowing down. The Great Acceleration also notes the changes in the fertility rates that foresees the exponential population growth, and states that it will soon be over. This case study shows various graphs and they show that the resource use has continued to grow through the most recent decade, fertilizer consumption, paper production and water use on a global scale, have all risen, but one of the most important trends of all is the rapid rate of urbanisation. over 50% of the global population now live in urban areas.
In 1991, the National Population Council was formed to inquire about population issues and Australia’s future environment, economy and society. This council found that with considerations
In Australia, the number of population is increasing because of the migration and natural growing problems. In this essay I will recommend one solution to solve the problem. Indeed, Australia government should encourage investor or businessmen to invest more in Western Australia and encourage more immigrant and resident to move into Western Australia. It means government should develop the village area, since Australia is too big, and the developer are most likely to invest or innovate in the city area such as Sydney and Melbourne. Thus, the population growth problems affect some cities such as Sydney and Melbourne to become overcrowded. It is a very important issue because overcrowded can bring out lots of negative issues. In addition, this
In 1800's the population growth is slow but when it reaches 1963 it grows rapidly. We side on don't panic because there will be no species extinction, if there will be no people abusing them. Low mortality rate is one of the cause of overpopulation and because of that it affect many aspect like economy, species extinction, limited resources( may tawag dito tina nakalimutan ko yung pag mas marami yung demand kesa supply). Technologically advancement in medicine is one of the visible sign of overpopulation, because of the improvement of the machines. Illness and diseases can be cured with the help of this new technology. Immigration of the rural people to the urban places may occur to lack of resources.
Environmentally, overpopulation will, and is already a detriment to the environment in general. At least a million acres, just in the United States of America, are being turned from rural, undeveloped land, into new subdivisions, malls, workplaces, and other buildings. This turns much of the land that many species call home, into somewhere they cannot live, and so this destroys native habitats of animals, and reduces biodiversity as a whole. The ozone layer has been depleting at a rate of 4 percent per year, because of our vast population, which needs immense
The world is faced with growing conservation problems daily, most of which are caused by an increasing population. In order to deal with the problems of overpopulation, the world needs to consider minimizing consumption, lowering waste byproducts, and keeping a hand on land management.
With rapid population growth and urbanization escalating, overcrowding has concerned many scientists, researchers, and the human populace as a whole. Overpopulation, the condition where an area holds more people than in which the area can properly function, is a serious issue which has many adverse effects on the well-being of a healthy human population. A growing seven billion people live on Earth and factors such as pollution, and human well being may all be affected by overpopulation, and continued growth in population will cause an even greater impact on society, individuals, and the environment. The effects of overpopulation is a multi-layered combination of different factors, all of them affecting each other in a variety of ways, yet they all work together to lead to the collapse of society. The continuation of these trends due to rising overpopulation will lead to the ultimate collapse of society attributed to the degradation of social structure, environmental structure, and human behavioral alterations and the culmination of the resulting effects. Continued population growth needs to be ended in the near future as it will affect every human being on the surface of the planet to a massive scale that can not be reversed.
The convoluted problems concerning overpopulation remain to be a highly discussed issue in various countries throughout the world. Some issues that are in support of overpopulation include the opportunity to place innovative ideas into action, stimulating the economy, job openings in new growing industries, increased human resources, encourages competition, advancement in urbanization and development, demand for industries like farming, and allows for cheaper and more readily available products to be produced. According to an article on Chron, “More homes must be constructed, more food produced, more clothing manufactured. Even during periods of population growth, new technology may reduce the number of employees needed in one industry, while the needs of the people create new jobs in another.” By providing job opportunities in different industries, citizens in overpopulation areas would have the chance to explore new careers and would be playing an important role in supporting local businesses. Some values that are in support of overpopulation include quality of life, competition, and the right to live.
Human overpopulation is mostly the most urgent environmental issues, the forces behind global warming , environmental pollution, habitat loss, the sixth mass extinction, intensive farming practices and the consumption of finite natural resources, such as fresh water, land and fossil fuels, at speeds faster than their rate of regeneration. however, ecological issues are just the beginning .
