The Outsiders And The Outsiders Similarities

There are some similarities between “the Outsiders” movie and novel. For example The greasers winning the rumble. “...but he was grinning happily because the Socs were running,”(Hinton 145). The rules of the rumble were hands only and who ever runs first lost and the Socs ran first. As well as Ponyboy waking up next the fountain with Bob lying in front of him dead and Johnny completely shocked. “I was lying on the pavement beside the fountain, coughing and gasping,” (Hinton 56). This shows the reader Ponyboy waking up after trying to be drowned. “...Bob, the handsome Soc, was lying in the moonlight, doubled up and still. A dark pool was growing from him…”(Hinton 56). Have you ever noticed in “The Outsiders” the differences and the similarities between the Greasers and the Socials? Well I will be explaining and showing why the Socials and Greasers are different and why they are the same. I will also be giving evidence supporting Ponyboys thought that Greasers and Socials are the same.

A very important comparison Dally and Johnny have is their parents. Johnny’s parents do not care about him. They either beat him or ignore him completely. “His father was always beating him up, and his mother ignored him” (12). His parents are alcoholics and do not care if he comes home or not. Likewise, Dally parents also do not care about him. If he was put in jail by age ten, then his parents clearly do not care enough to discipline him. He rarely talks about his parents, but when he does, he has nothing nice to say. “‘Shoot, my old man don’t give a hang whether I’m dead in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter’” (88). Dally talks about his father with disgust, like he never did anything for him, which may be true. The way Dally’s parents and Johnny’s parents both do not care about them makes these two characters very similar.

Doe Zantamata once says, “Differences and similarities are equally as easy to see, it mostly depends on which ones you are seeking to find.” In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton two of the main characters, Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston or Dally, have many similarities and many differences. Johnny and Dally both have bad and abusive parents, and they think of the gang like their family. The differences are, Johnny is not a fighter and does not enjoy fighting like Dally does. Johnny dies a hero and Dally dies a violent hoodlum. If Johnny and Dally are exactly the same or very different, the story would be very different and a lot of key parts in the story would not be the same and as meaningful.

The Greasers and the Socs' Are two rival gangs who try to claim there place in a small town. Throughout the book and movie an interesting twist occurs, Ponyboy runs away and meets with Johnny Cade, they walk throughout a vacant lot and didn't expect to see the Socs' and their blue Mustang . This is when the interesting twist occurs one of the greasers called Bob had tried to drown Ponyboy and Johnny having no choice, killed him with a switch blade. The movie had quite a turn as it included different details.

S.E Hinton’s, “The Outsiders” and Benjamin Alire Sáenz’s ,“Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” are two young adult novels with greatly different stories yet support the same ideology. Both works focus on the lives of two teenage boys, Ponyboy, of Hinton’s novel, and Aristotle, of Sáenz’s. The story of Ponyboy takes place in the year 1969, and focuses on a huge but short period of his life. It tells about his struggle as an orphan under the care of his two older brothers and deals with gang violence, socioeconomic status, and death. Whereas, the story of Aristotle takes place during the 1980’s and covers a long period of his life and involves his experiences with his relationship with his hands-on parents, his sexual orientation, and struggling with his awkward years. There are many conceptions of what is appropriate for young readers, but these two novels defend that young people should be informed. By examining “The Outsiders” and “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe”, this ideology of communicating mature topics to these readers is supported as the characters of both novels deal with the challenges of belonging, identity, and staying true to themselves, as well as reinforce the notion that adolescents can benefit from this knowledge.

While Holling needs space from his “man” of a father, Ponyboy is desperate for his parents to stay with him. The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton are two books that take place in the year 1967. The Wednesday Wars focuses on a boy names Holling Hoodhood living in Long Island with his business family and school troubles. Holling’s father owns a business, Hoodhood and Associates, and will do anything for that business. As Holling learns his father admires his business over his own son, he surprisingly grows relationships with classmates and teachers. Holling finds how similar life is to famous literature and you see him go from “no guts”, as his sister might say, to growing more than his own father. The

The “Outsiders” movie and novel are very different and similar. The book and the movie have some similarities. After really comparing the two there was a lot of differences.

Johnny Cade comes from a broken home, his dad hits him, his mom does not care about Johnny, the only thing he has are his friends, the greasers. Ponyboy, one of his closest friends, is talking about everyone in the gang and when he came to Johnny he said, “Johnny had it awful rough at home”(4). Johnny unlike everyone else in the gang, except Dally, does not have someone in his family that truly cares for him. This affects him because it makes him upset that his parents do not care for him. If Johnny did not have it so hard at home, he would be more content and joyful, and even less scared. Johnny is a little bothered that his parents did not ask about Johnny so Dally goes on and says, “‘my old man don’t give a hang whether i’m in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter’” (88). When Dally is 10, he gets arrested and is on the streets of New York, which shows how little Dally’s father cares about him. Maybe if his father did care, Dally would be more kind and caring, and like Johnny, more joyful. If Dally’s dad cared, he may still be living with his parents and would not be a greaser. Soc’s. Greaser’s. Two different groups who are just teenagers trying to find their way in life and who all have their problems. The book The Outsiders written by, S. E. Hinton, is based on a true story and how two different social groups interact. The wealthier, classier group with Mustangs and madras shirts are called the “Socs.” The less wealthier, greasy, slicked-back hair group are called “Greasers.” Both groups are stereotyped by society. Greasers are prone to crime and Socs are spoiled and can’t do anything wrong. The Outsiders has multiple themes, one is that loyalty between people can keep each other from getting hurt. Another is how the reputations people hold aren’t always accurate. Both play roles in changing the lives of the characters in the book.

Both Johnny and Dally are similar in the way that they both have a terrible home life. Johnny and Ponyboy are resting in the park when they accidentally fall asleep. Johnny wakes up Ponyboy at two in the morning and tells him to run home fast because Ponyboy’s brothers do care about him unlike Johnny’s parents. “‘I think I’ll stay all night out here.’ Johnny’s parents didn’t care if he came home

As I stated above, Dally had proven that he cared about Johnny, many times throughout the book. Dally had practically taken Johnny in as his family. He was like a mentor to Johnny, he wanted him to do well and have a better life than him. Johnny was the greasers’ “kid brother,” meaning that everyone cared for him as a younger brother. On page 89, Dally says to Johnny, “Johnny, I ain’t mad at you. I just don’t want you to get hurt,” this tells us that he really cares about his feelings and doesn’t want any harm done to him. He continues with, “You don’t know what a few months in jail can do to you.” He cared about what would happen to Johnny, he didn’t want him to end up like the uncaring side of Dally. In what way can two people that have grown up with the same lifestyle be so different but at the same time so similar. It seems unrealistic. However, in S. E. Hinton’s novel The Outsiders, two characters with such characteristics exist. Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston are two greasers that at similar because they both place little value on their lives and have parents who don’t give them the attention they need. Despite the similarities these two have, Dally and Johnny have their own divergence from each other such as giving different advice and getting in trouble with the law. Thus, their lifestyle and way of living Jonny Cade and Dallas Winston have some unique differences and strong similarities.

An unexpected night occurs and Johnny murders a Soc. Johnny and Pony run away and soon, along with Dally, they save children from a fire. Johnny’s doesn’t look good and he dies. Dally gets into some trouble and gets shot. There are many similarities and differences between the movie and book version of The Outsiders because of events in the movie, book, and both.
