The book Outsiders was a very interesting book, I got to learn about how stuff worked back then. It had a lot of unexpected events. What i liked the most about this book was that ponyboy was always himself and never let anything change what he liked. Even though ponyboy was a greaser he always wanted to be the one who got a college education.
My favorite character was ponyboy, I just love the way he always carried himself.
He was very mature for his age too. He never let anyone pick on him for being the youngest and when someone did he fixed that situation like an adult would. I didn't really have a least favorite, I liked all of them even though at times I didn't like some of them. At the end though everyone kinda settled themselves in as
Ponyboy Curtis - The novel's fourteen-year-old narrator and protagonist, and the youngest of the greasers. Ponyboy's literary interests and academic accomplishments set him apart from the rest of his gang. Because his parents have died in a car accident, Ponyboy lives with his brothers Darry and Sodapop. Darry repeatedly accuses Ponyboy of lacking common sense, but Ponyboy is a reliable and observant narrator. Throughout the novel, Ponyboy struggles with class division, violence, innocence, and familial love. He matures over the course of the novel, eventually realizing the importance of strength in the face of class bias.
There are two groups in this book, the lower income families on the east side called greasers and the higher income paid families who live on the West side of town called Socs. One night the protagonist, Ponyboy Curtis and friend Johnny Cade were making their way back from a movie, they decide to lay down and talk for a little bit before they go home. His older brother, Darry, is waiting when Pony walks in. They instantly start arguing and Darry smacks Ponyboy across the face. Ponyboy and Johnny runaway moments later and find themselves in a park with drunk Socs who attack Ponyboy. Ponyboy regains consciousness to find himself lying on the ground next to an Socs dead body. Johnny had stabbed a Soc in the back with his switchblade. They hang low at an abandon church for a long week. Then, Dally arrives to check up on them and takes them out to lunch. He
Survival instincts allow individuals to persevere during times of hardship and struggle. Unfortunately, many families in America are struggling lower-middle class or live in poverty. It’s nice to think a person can easily go from being dirt poor to filthy rich, but it doesn’t usually work that way. The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton depicts the hardships and struggles experienced by two rival gangs, “The Greasers” from the lower middle class and “The Socs” from the upper class. Thesis: In The Outsiders, the Greasers experience disenfranchisement mostly due to socioeconomic class and appearance. However, other types of disenfranchisement such as drug, alcohol use and gang participation are also present in the novel.
1.B In the first chapter of the book, the authors introduces the main characters, setting, and briefly introduces the main conflict. The way the author does this is by introducing one at a time. The first page starts with one of the main characters (Ponyboy) walking home from from the movie theater and running into trouble with a rival gang called The Socs. The Socs are a gang of rich kids who enjoy wreaking havoc on their lower class counterparts, The Greasers which ponyboy happens to be. Ponyboy is the youngest greaser doesn't quite understand why the socs and the greasers hate each other so much. As the socs attempt to jump Ponyboy some fellow greasers including his two older come to his rescue. The next night Ponyboy and other greasers
In the first chapter of the book, “The Outsiders – S.E. Hinton,” Ponyboy who is also the narrator kicks off the story with himself coming back from the movie theater. Ponyboy had just watched a Paul Newman movie, which after the movie ended, made him crave for the looks that Newman had. Although wanting his looks, Ponyboy observed that the greaser look of his own wasn’t that bad after all. Ponyboy was walking home alone from the movies, having this thought going on throughout his mind. Ponyboy’s that type of guy who prefers watching movies alone, but would always appreciate company when walking back home. He didn’t bother asking any of his two brothers, with which he lived with. Himself, being 14 years old, Sodapop being 16 years old, and Darry
“You take up for your buddies, no matter what” Just a simple phrase, but to the greasers it means so much more. In the book “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton the greasers have a tough life. Dropouts, Murderers and prisoners consist of the gang. When someone lives in such a tightly knitted neighborhood like that the gang becomes family, by blood or not. One rule the greasers live by is “Stick together, make like brothers” Ponyboy, Soda, Darry, Johnny and the rest of the greasers will risk their lives for anyone in the gang that comes in harm's way. Especially if the Socs have anything to do with it.
Should Ponyboy stay with his brothers and stick together as a family? Will Ponyboy have a better life if he gets into the system ? These are all questions we all have asked while reading the dramatic novel , “The outsiders” by the author S.E Hinton . I strongly believe that Ponyboy should stay with Darry, because first of all Darry is his legal guardian after all. Darry is a responsible Young man who is breaking his back to give Ponyboy: Shelter, Food, and most of all love. Darry might be hard on Ponyboy, but he is not doing it because he enjoys doing it, it is because he cares about Ponyboy’s education and well being. A responsible guardian is a guardian who cares about one’s well being. If a guardian didn’t care, they wouldn’t even bother
The Outsiders is about three brothers, Darry, Sodapop, and Ponyboy, growing up on their own after their parents were killed in a car accident a short amount of time before the book started. They are all members of the greaser gang, rough kids who grew up rough, and often did not get along with their rival the Socs, rich kids who grew up privileged. The oldest of brothers, Darry, takes on the role of the father figure more responsible brother for the sake of his little brothers instead of growing up having the fun
S.E. Hinton, the author of the Outsiders once stated this, “It seemed funny to me that the sunset she saw from her patio and the one I saw from the back steps was the same one. Maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren’t so different. We saw the same sunset.” Furthermore, there is a feud going on between the greasers, and the Socs. The two groups, both have been fighting for over a while now. But this quote stated means that these two groups aren’t that different. From their rumbles, and disagreements, there is no reason to fight.
The outsiders by S.E. Hinton is an action thrilling book that’s about a gang of greasers. The book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton; is a book that has a strong and deep rivalry between between two gangs, the Socs’ and the Greasers’; as they both perceive each other as different they are really more similar than they think. What is the difference between people who live on the west side or the east side of the town? The Greasers are "poorer than the Socs and the middle class...” stealing things, reviving old souped-up cars and have a gang fight once in a while. While Socs are "the jet set, the Westside rich kids," who "jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks.” But their bad reputation goes away in a blink of an eye.
S.E Hinton wrote The Outsiders when she was just sixteen. She gave the main character the character the name of Ponyboy. Through the book Ponyboys learns more and more about life. Pony Learns more from everyone that there is much more to life, family, and friends.
“When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home.” On page 1, this is how S.E. Hinton sets up the book. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is about Ponyboy and his gang in the mid-1960s in Tulsa Oklahoma, and about their way of life. Ponyboy stands out in this story because he is the protagonist which is the main character of the story, and shows how he grows up. Ponyboy is smart and gets good grades and has a high IQ level but doesn’t use his head, he is also nice too when he broke a bottle end off to scare a group of socs off he picks up the glass he broke so no one gets a flat tire, finally Ponyboy is loyal to his gang, right before the rumble Ponyboy was out of shape and sick and shouldn’t participate in the rumble, but his pride tells him he should to help beat the socs.
The original teenage rebel story the outsiders is a novel written by S.E Hinton. This novel follows the character ‘Ponyboy Curtis’s’ point of view, giving an idea of how life is for the Greasers and the Socs, the Socs being the rich kids and the Greasers being not as well off.
