Please provide a summary of what paraphilia you researched in this weeks DB and assignment. The paraphilia that I choose to dicuss is transvestic fetishism which has two parts for the diagnosis they are a) over a period of at least 6 months, in a heterosexual male, recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving cross-dressing and b) the fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. There mey be an increased risk for sexual acting out for example, subjects have accidentally died when they were engaged in autoerotic asphyxia, which is a high risk paraphilic behavior based on self-induced cerebral anoxia by hanging or suffocation during masturbation. In one study results indicated that 36 men and 5 women ever having experienced sexual arousal from actual cross-dressing behavior, results suggest that sexual arousal to cross-dressing is rare, but could be associated with potentially criminal paraphilic sexual behavior such as voyeuristic and exhibitionistic acts, and there was a non-significant trend suggesting that childhood sexual victimization was related to transvestic fetishism. Was there any research located linking bullying and paraphilia? Explain findings. There were elements found in the childhood/adolescent hisory of sadistic offender they include aggression to peers (may include intentional pain infliction), cruelty to
“Research into the impact of childhood abuse and neglect on violent behavior of adults who became serial killers concluded that adults who had been physically, sexually, and emotionally abused as children were three times more likely than were non-abused adults to act violently as adults” (Silva, Leong, & Ferrari, 2004).
Criminal psychologists have been examining into cases if serial killers are born or made. In most of these cases, many psychologists have considered multiple clues or indications that lead to why people become these ruthless murderers. What appeared to be a common factor is childhood abuse. Mostly the reason why childhood abuse has appeared to be a noticeable element to consider is because of how serial killers bring up that they have been abused as a child. Because of this, many claim that childhood abuse is to be a blaming aspect of the creation of these killers. Now, many have disagreed and will continue to disagree that there is no link between childhood abuse and serial killers. At first glance, it will not seem that there is a link, but
According to research antisocial disorder causes violent acts in children of a young age. Review of literature indicates that antisocial personality disorder is a mental condition in which a person has a long-term pattern of manipulating, exploiting, or violating the rights of others. This behavior is often criminal (Berger, 2014). It has been said that people who have experiences a traumatic event in their life many develop antisocial personality disorder, which can also cause them to be very violent (Black, 2013). Researchers say they don’t know for sure what causes this disorder. Many state that how the person interacted in their early years around family and friends can be a major factor to this disorder (Gorhol, 2014). The environment they grew up in such as substance abuse, child abuse, or neglect has been said to be linked with antisocial personality disorder (Black, 2013).
Sexual fetishes are a form of intense arousal due to a fixation of an inanimate object or a specific human characteristic. Types of fetishes can be viewed as acceptable and others can be seen as abnormal based on societal standards. However, the unknown factor of these fetishes is whether they are innate or adapted throughout the course of life. The factors that make up the defining line between normal and abnormal fetishes are somewhat undetermined, however, it is interesting to study whether the causes of both share similarities in their development. These fetishes can create changes in social behavior, thinking and overall function.
The Anatomy of Violence: The Biological Roots of Crime is an outstanding, in depth novel written by Adrian Raine who is a British Psychologist. He received his bachelor’s degree in experimental psychology at Oxford University and his Doctor of Philosophy in psychology at York University. He is currently the chair Richard Perry University Professor of psychology, psychiatry, and criminology at the University of Pennsylvania. He spent four years in two different prisons in England as a prison psychologist to research and try to understand why some people become violent criminals and psychopaths. Raine really stresses what anatomical and biological things are taking place in the brains of violent criminals and psychopaths, and ultimately saying
Sexuality is very diverse, in some instances normality is based on the cultural context of the individual's society. In "The other side of desire" by Daniel Bergner, the author goes in depth into the lives of four individual's whose lust and longing have led them far down the realms of desire. The current paper addresses the four individual's Jacob, the Baroness, Roy, and Ron each exhibits a paraphilia that may or may not meet the full criteria in the DSM-5. Furthermore, each's specific paraphilia is conceptualized and explained in depth. Also, countertransferential issues anticipated before working with these individual's is analyzed and clarified. Also, the apprehension of sexual arousal and sexual behaviors is conceptualized into normality
Everyone have something that turns them on or sexual desires they will like to be filled. However, when does it becomes abnormal behavior or illegal? Do some people go too far with trying to become sexual satisfied? I learned that paraphilia are atypical and there are several different types. Paraphilia are behaviors such as; flashers or fetishes. They gain sexual gratification form a non-human objects or body parts. For example, flashers often masturbates to the idea of flashing a person or while flashing a person. In addition, a person with a fetish seek arousal though the smell of a person clothes, underwear, or feet. The fetish turns them on to their partners or a mate they are seeking. I met a guy who had a feet fetish at a local
A paraphilia is known as a medical category which medical doctors created in the 1920s to describe abnormal sexual arousal to individuals, objects, or situations that are not considered normal or typical behavior in a community and causes personal distress or serious problems. Quinsey (2011) noted that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders includes paraphilias as mental disorders. He stated that this is because they are known to include a behavioral or psychological dysfunction which can create significant distress or disability. He explains a primary feature in most paraphilias is that the sexual behaviors most often involve a person who did not consent to the specific behavior. This is especially true in exhibitionism, frotteurism, and voyeurism. According to Kafka and Hennen (2002), The most common types of paraphilias are exhibitionism (exposing ones genitals to an unexpected person or performing sexual acts that can be watched by others) voyeurism (urges to observe an unsuspecting person who is naked, disrobing, or engaging in sexual activates, or in activates usually considered to be a private nature), pedophilia (sexual preference for prepubescent children or engaging in child sexual abuse), sexual masochism (wanting to be humiliated, beaten, bound, or otherwise made to suffer for sexual pleasure) sadism (in which the pain or humiliation of a person is sexually exciting), fetishism (use of inanimate objects to gain sexual excitement), transvestic
Although the disorder is categorized into many different types of specific paraphilia, the characteristics of the illness are often very similar. At first, the disorder may seem like a regular fetish or a sexual fantasy of an individual. However, if an individual is going through guilt, distress, depression, or any sense of immorality from his/her particular interest, the signs of the Paraphilic disorder becomes more explicit. As the individual relieves himself/herself from engaging in paraphilic behaviors, he/she becomes addicted to the cycle. Thus, being diagnosed with Paraphilic disorder. Sometimes, paraphilic subjects may deny that they have paraphilic symptoms or behaviors. But such motivation to deny engaging in paraphilic behavior is
Sex illustrates as, “either of the two major forms of individuals that occur in many species and that are distinguished respectively as female or male especially on the basis of their reproductive organs and structures.” (Merriam-Webster). Sex plays an essential role in human behavior, for illustration, it can lower blood pressure, relieves stress and it could help you sleep better, but there is a corruptive side to this action. Paraphilia is defining as “a psychosexual disorder in which sexual gratification is obtained through practices or fantasies involving a bizarre, deviant, or highly unusual source of sexual arousal such as an animal or an object.” Merriam-Webster) Such as, necrophilia, being attracted to corpses, acrotomophilia being
I found that one might have a paraphilia that is necessary for sexual satisfaction (i.e. submission or bondage) and their not at all interested in sex if it does not involve this paraphilia. At the same time, one might have a paraphilic behavior but it is not necessary all the time for sexual satisfaction. They may only engage in this behavior occasionally and may have many other sexual interests. I am leaning toward one developing a paraphilia due to a habit they had early in life that may not have been of a sexual nature but when being repeatedly associated with the activity they become sexually aroused because it was pleasurable.
There are many different types of paraphilias, including pedophilia and necrophilia. Pedophilia is the sexual attraction or sexual gratification gained by an individual when they sexually engage with children or young, prepubescent individuals. Necrophilia is the sexual attraction or sexual gratification gained by an individual when they engage in intercourse with a corpse. Both paraphilias are socially shunned and deemed morally wrong for good reason. They are similar in that they both involve nonconsenting parties. Although a child may “consent” to the activity, their age makes them unfit to understand the situation and why it is inappropriate, therefore they will always be nonconsenting. Both a pedophile and a necrophile may gain sexual
One of the reasons most people with paraphilias are men may be that men are largely encouraged to pursue their sexual urges. Despite some people with these paraphilias saying they feel ashamed, they are still following through with their desires and harassing unsuspecting strangers (this doesn't apply to every paraphilia covered in the book, like transvestism, but is a common theme among quite a few of them). Many of the men who fall under the diagnosis of paraphilia report that they have a hard time making interpersonal connections with women, but again this does not stop them, but rather encourages them, to go out and potentially traumatize strangers (this can be seen in exhibtionism; the "flashers" get a sense of satisfaction and arousal
Ways to decrease the diagnosis of paraphilias is to fund programs that offer treatment on disorders such as Pedophilia, Exhibitionism, Voyeurism, and other dangerous disorders. Exhibitionists are very unpredictable due to their biological state of being. Exhibitionists “operate on uncontrollable impulses and work [from] uncontrollable impulses” (Indecent Exposure: Exhibitionism par: 15). “Exhibitionists have the highest recidivism rate of all paraphilias” and it is important that this gets taken into account to prevent these situations in society (Exhibitionism par: 29). Whenever encountered in situations like these it is important to ignore the exhibitionist at the moment and report the case to officials as soon as possible recommending officials to take them to places that will give them
The whole topic of paraphilic disorder is very interesting. I knew there were fetishes out there, but I did not know that it was a mental disorder. The only paraphilic disorder that I really knew about was pedophillic, but the subject of that disorder makes me uncomfortable. So I decided to select a fetish, I did not even know was a fetish and that is exhibitionist disorder. Exhibitionist disorder occurs when an individual has strong urges to exposes themselves and to an individual that does not give them consent to.
