The crowd thundered in excitement, screaming the names of the Pokémon trainers, encouraging the Trainers to battle their hardest. The stadium rumbled in anticipation for the coming fight. A metallic whirring sound revealed a stage, each on their respective sides of the field, rising from the ground, penetrating the exuberant night sky. An individual stood on each of the stages; these people were the Pokémon trainers. Reaching for a dual-colored sphere on their belts, the trainers threw the orb in the air. The sphere shimmered, and released a burst of red energy, quickly solidifying into the marvelous creatures known as Pokémon. The referee ran off of the field, assuming his position on the sidelines, and yelled, “Let the battle begin!” …show more content…
On the windowsill, an alarm clock clicked to the next minute, 8:00, and started blaring a repetitive, and, perhaps slightly annoying, wake-up tune. The lump under the covers began to shift around, then let out a small groan. An arm reached over to the clock, and shut off the shrieking device. Satisfied, the arm went slack, and dangled off the bed.
A few minutes later, a stern, motherly voice yelled from downstairs. “Miranda! You better be up and ready! Today is an important day! You can’t be late, or you might not get your Pokémon!” shouted the voice. The mention of the word “Pokémon” made the lump in the bed sit straight up. The lump had short, cocoa-brown hair, and light skin. A mixture of blues and greens, not dissimilar to that of a clear, sparkling lake, sat on top of a small, button nose, sat on top of a wide smile. The lump had a slim frame, but, was also shorter. The lump’s name was Miranda Schenck, and the lump was a teenage girl! Miranda bounded over to her wardrobe, grabbed an outfit, and sprinted over to her bathroom. In what seemed like seconds, the girl bounced out of the bathroom, and ran back into her room. She grabbed her backpack, shoved a few books, her purse, and a few other miscellaneous items into it, and darted down the stairs.
Downstairs, behind the kitchen island, stood Miranda’s mother. Miranda and her mother got along quite well, although her mother tended to be quite strict. That is also the reason why
I heard the faint high pitched beeping of my alarm clock as I opened my sleep covered eyes. I attempted to roll out from under my covers but immediately retreated as I felt the chilly spring air touch my skin. While I was mustering up the motivation to get out of bed, I glanced at my alarm clock. “11:00 AM” it read in boxy, glowing numbers. Had I really slept in that long? I finally rose from my bed, traveling down the stairs to make myself some breakfast. “Hi, girl!” I greeted my dog where she was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. I smiled to myself as I turned on some music, opened the fridge to retrieve some eggs, and turned on the stove. It felt like a fine Saturday morning until I remembered that I had a lacrosse game later
Throughout her life, which began at age three on the island, to the time in which she met the only other human contact, Ferdinand, at age fifteen, she learned many things from her father about life and all its complexities. Living on this island, Miranda is a product of " nurture" rather than that of "nature."
As nature becomes more unpredictable, Pfeffer indicates that the family is confused and unsure of what is to come, but aware that life is about to get extremely difficult. Although the family is just “a little shaken up”, there is no “sens[e] of relief” for Miranda as she displays true concern for her loved ones (27). Her reaction exposes the consideration and worry she feels, rather than the self-absorbed, immature attitude she expressed before. Not only does she worry about her family, but when her friend Megan begins sharing food and skipping meals, Miranda confronts her decisions because she cares for her health. Even though she disagrees with Megan’s conservation, Miranda contributes to the theme of
What does Pokemon give to the world? Does it provide more than just joy to those who are socially awkward? Has Pokemon affected society for the best or the worst? There are many instances in which Pokemon has done both for the world. Pokemon has helped children with math and English. Pokemon has provided friendship to those who do not fit in as well as others. Pokemon has evoked many joyous moments in this world, but for every good thing, there is a bad thing waiting to accompany it. Schools have banned Pokemon at the playground and in class primarily because of fights over cards. I have been in feuds over Pokemon cards that did not end well. There are other reasons as to why Pokemon
Miranda has been a great developing character in this part. Miranda meets Arthur Leander and later on marries him. However, they end up divorcing after a couple months. This part of the novel foreshadows from the beginning of novel, “thrice married” (Mandel 2). This event will also foreshadow events to come as this infused the relationship between Arthur and Elizabeth after this divorce. Furthermore, during this part of the novel, we learn the personality of Miranda
Miranda meets a man named Dev at an expensive make-up counter where she becomes enamored with his charm and appearance and from then on continues a relationship with him. Similarly, Miranda’s perspective of her new love is widely altered by her co-worker Laxmi, who usually has stories of heartbreak surrounding her cousin's adulterous husband. Soon Laxmi ends up inviting her poor cousin up to New York for a consoling spa day, but forgets about who will have the responsibility of watching her nephew. So Miranda ends up doing it out of niceness, where she is immediately met with the behavior of a rude elementary school boy named Rohin. 7 year old Rohin goads her into making him coffee, drawing pictures with him, letting him follow her around her apartment, go through her stuff, and just invade her general privacy. Eventually, she is convinced to try on a set of party clothes she had bought with the intention of of wearing in the presence of her lover and a fancy setting. Rohin exclaims and tells her she is “sexy”, something her lover had said just a week earlier. The word choice spurs Miranda to ask the young boy if he knows what he has just said to her, and he tells her he believes that thinking someone is sexy is the equivalent of loving someone you do not know. This makes her realize the impact that his
I tried to fling open the door, but the chain lock inside jerked it to a halt. Persistent bleats—starting and stopping at regular intervals—pierced the air inside her apartment. Margery’s alarm clock, still blaring its morning wake-up
This shows that Miranda is trying to adjust, thus, it develops her character overall from being at first teenager like, to being more worried and observant of the changes going on in her
Sexual crimes appear to be all around. Many individuals were shocked when Bill Cosby was accused of this crime, although he has yet to be found guilty of anything. The recent presidential campaign brought with it numerous charges of this type against one candidate and the husband of the other, yet no convictions for either, and various NFL superstars have been hit with this type of charge over recent years. This doesn't even take into consideration the big lawsuit that was just finalized regarding the false gang rape charge at the University of Virginia reported on by Rolling Stone magazine. This goes to show that anyone can be hit with this charge, regardless of whether or not they have actually committed a crime.
Pokemon Go trainers are finding their way around the neighborhoods and cities across the country in search of Pokemon. The captures have been plentiful and it’s not surprising to see a cell phone out and ready to find more on every square inch of the planet. This craze isn’t for the faint of heart and people are serious about their playtime. Even if that means whipping out the phone to see Pokemon at the funeral.
When her mother became injured Miranda took on new responsibilities ( such as cleaning the clothes or even cleaning the bedpans). Then when her family had the flu she cared for her family by taking on making the food, giving her family medicine, sponge bathing them, and giving them alcohol rubs. Which shows that she was accountable for three lives, but she cared for them enough that they survived, making her responsible( which she was not at the beginning of the book because of her dependency on her mother and Matt and immaturity). In addition, around the end of the book Miranda tries to “get rid of herself” for the sake of her family and to give Jonny a better chance which show maturity by putting her brother and her family’s above her own showing that she has learned responsibility compared to the beginning when she had a fit when her mother acted to give Jonny a better chance. Finally, Miranda focused on learning to be responsible which overall made her more mature which was a large part of her “second education” consequently it helped her care for her family which was necessary to their
“Get out of my way!”, Miranda screeched as she pushed the kind girl over. Miranda Vanderweele is the most menace person you could possibly meet. She never helped anyone, anything, including her community, or even herself. Everyone in Paradise, Arizona had a normal life except for poor Miranda. Her life was surely no walk in Times square, on an exquisite, breezy fall night with her magnificent family, that she did not have. She lived in a cottage that was beyond dingy, rotten, and had a nearly deadly, revolting stench coming from the dumpsters that she lives beside. Miranda had no family, that she liked anyway. Miranda lived with her great aunt, Bailey. Sounds like such a beautiful, kind, and
Her perception of the real world is only what she has imagined in her dreams. She only knows what she has seen and what she has been told by her controlling father, Prospero. Prospero puts Miranda on a pedestal and treats her like a princess so she has no idea of how the world really is. He only starts to tell her the story of how they became stranded on the island once she turns 15. Miranda’s kindness is demonstrated in the beginning of the story when she is concerned about the people aboard the shipwreck in the storm she witnesses. She has a kind soul and will most likely treat her people fairly but may be too naïve to see through the ones who are likely to plot against her.
