Individuals that inhabit this world have been committing acts of terrorism for centuries now. However, it seems like terrorism has been increasing in these past couple of months. Tragic events have been occurring more often than usual: like the Manchester bombing attack in May that killed twenty two people, it seems like whenever you turn on the TV you always see chaos erupt in any part of the world due to terrorist attacks. An abundant amount of innocent individuals are deceased due to these horrendous attacks. Needless to say, a big question lies. Is there any way to eliminate terrorism for good? To understand the possibility of dissolving terrorism, one must understand what terrorism truly is. Terrorism does not always mean the dropping of bombs by Muslims, but terrorism can be performed by anyone: celebrities, political figures, citizens, etc. The definition of a terrorist varies from person to person, and it’s usually a biased opinion, depending on the person’s views or origin. One individual might pinpoint a terrorist to be a Muslim, while others might see a terrorist as an ordinary American citizen. To add, there are multiple categories that stimulates acts of terrorism: political, religious, and personal terrorism.
Political terrorism, in a sense, is executed to negative promote and spread their specific political and social ideas and movements that they wish to see created or changed in their favor by utilizing terror and violence. For instance: “A terrorist might
In today’s society domestic terrorism is one of the biggest threats to the United States. Some of these recent terrorist attacks include. Domestic Terrorism is when U.S. citizens carry out terrorist acts against other U.S. residents or groups. Many people think that the biggest threat of terrorism to the U.S. is from a foreign country, when in fact, the bigger threat is closer to home. Domestic terrorism is becoming a bigger threat to the U.S. than international terrorism and we need to find a way to prevent these attacks.
The word “ terrorism” is used a lot in the world nowadays. The definition of a terrorist is someone who uses intentionally indiscriminate violence as a means to create terror or fear, in order to achieve a political, religious, or ideological aim. Some example of what we have establish as terror attacks are the Twin Towers in New York on the 11 of september 2001 or the Paris attack on november the 13 2015. The attacks were done by two different groups of terrorists, but what people tend to ignore is that these terrorist groups did not come to life from the unknown. What people tend to ignore or maybe just don’t understand or don’t know is that in this case, Al Qaeda was a creation of the United States of America, a country which was colossally
In my personal opinion, terrorism is being addressed, especially at a national level, however addressing a threat and acting to prevent it are two separate subjects. The DHS states “the terrorist threat is evolving and, while changing in shape, remains significant as attack planning and operations become more decentralized. The United States and its interests, particularly in the transportation sector, remain persistent targets” (DHS 2014, p28). That quote is an example of addressing the issue of terrorism to the nation, however, Romaniuk (2014) states:
Have you ever wondered why there are so many terrorist attacks in the United States? Why did the United States spends so much money on the military? This all happens due to a reason that the United States keep interfering into others countries’ problems, but most of the time nothing come out of it. Sometimes, the United States even make the problem become even worse. Just like the war in Iraq. The decisions made by the Presidents cause the problem getting worse day by day. Helping people out is a good thing, however, we should think about if that person need help or not. Which out the intervene of the United States, Iraq will not be in a situation like today. The United States will be less in debt and more money to fund other programs. There are more negative effects than positive effects when the United States meddles into others countries’ problems, so the United States should just ignore and stop worrying about those countries.
Terrorism is a frightening reality that all people in today’s world must face. While some areas of the world are facing terrorism more than others nearly are regions and all people are facing the violence and devastating effects of terrorism in one form or another.
Terrorism has been creating havoc across the globe for the entirety of recorded history. Today, with the invention of the Internet and different computer programs, these radical groups that enact these deadly attacks are able to change the way they operate through the use of technological advances to further their onslaught on humanity. The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation defines terrorism as “the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.” (International vs. Domestic Terrorism). Every person on the planet can be affected by terrorism, regardless of religion, gender, or race. Throughout history radical groups who become obsessed with their own opinions and beliefs try to force others to believe in their views through displays of violence and terror. Contrary to modern beliefs that terrorists are only radical Islam groups like Al Qaeda and Isis, but in reality almost every group of people from Christians to even environmentalists have enacted radical terrorist attacks. Terrorism, like technology, is not exclusive to industrialized nations or countries but is available to anyone with the right resources. These technologies are used throughout the world to connect average people to others and is almost always used for good. Terrorist organizations take advantage of new found communications
Terrorism is a worldwide issue suffered by many countries. Boston marathon bombing was a tragic day for the people of Boston. The two brothers set up two bombs and shot people at the race and many were killed and wounded. The same day one of the brothers was shot and killed by a police officer. The other brother ran away and the police caught up with him and cornered him in a boat and he surrendered. These terrorists had strong views and acted upon their thoughts. Is there a true one solution to terrorism, I don’t think so. However there are many measures countries could take to reduce such acts. This particular act was based on religion. All countries should educate all on religions from other countries and teach tolerance to people. , have heavy security on major
Terrorism is becoming a problem in today’s world. Do we even know what terrorism is? Terrorism is the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims. This definition is a very weird way to say terrorism is used to make countries obey other countries. The Islamic countries send so called terrorists over to the United States and other countries to detonate bombs and make bombs to try to make people change to the Islamic faith. Terrorism has origins all the way back to the French government during the 1793–1794 (Reign of terror).
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines terrorism as, “the use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal” (Terrorism, n.d.). The various definitions of terrorism are typically close in comparison but can carry a slightly different tone when used by a government for purposes of the law.
Over the many years the earth has existed so has violence, extremely dangerous forms of violence known as terrorism are very prominent today. Terrorism has been around since separate nations were created long ago; these nations fought over who was the strongest or who had the right viewpoint or even over who should control certain lands. Though most everyone has heard about some form of terrorist activity during their lifetime, it was brought to the forefront of every American citizen’s mind after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the world trade center. After these attacks the whole country was looking for security, a reassurance that an event like this would not happen again.
Eliminating terrorism appears to be a futile goal being as conflict is a understandably normal part of society, so having a grasp on it seems to be the only option people have around the world. In order to do this, however, a definition for terrorism is important to develop because if there is not a concise definition of terrorism, terrorists can still “operate under the guise of legitimacy” (White, 2016) because without a definition that fully encompasses all kinds of aspects of terrorism, they can have access to loopholes that appear to be legal. A definition can be applied through understanding three key elements – the terrorists’ use of violence, the aim of the violence is political, and the targets of the violence are civilians (Ganor, 2002). Not only are these three key elements important to an all-inclusive definition, it must be clear in order to “avoid double standards, and it should encompass all forms of the act, irrespective of the perpetrator, actor, target, place or time” (Zeidan, 2003). There should be an agreement of this definition of terrorism between the state and federal levels of government within one nation, as well as an agreement of the definition between all nations so that a terrorist group cannot thrive and become
The New York Times says that the fear of terrorism in the United States is at levels that have not been seen since the infamous September 11, 2001. This poll comes after the attacks in Jakarta, Paris, and San Bernardino. Terrorism has ties all the way back to the 11th century with Al-Hashshashin. A terrorist organization must fall into two categories in order to be considered a transnational terrorist group: “involves groups or individuals whose terrorist activities cross international borders and targeted countries that are not represented in the make-up of the group” (Casserleigh, PP 4). With growing technology, working in favor of the terrorists, transnational terrorism has been able to grow into what is it today. Terrorism has been defined
Terrorism must be overcome and be eliminated. The government of the United States will do this by having updated, and more advanced security around high populated places such
Terrorism has been around since the time of the romans and the greeks. It is a tactic used to inspire fear into others and set an example to others what the perpetrators are capable of. When the use of it was first put to action it was not a very big deal. Now in present day, technology has driven us further along with unrest sprouting more ways for it to be used in many different forms. Domestic terrorism and abroad are both equally dangerous and terrifying.
Terrorism, which has been around for as long as people can remember, has been on the rise for the past ten years. Terrorists usually use murdering, kidnapping, hi-jacking and bombings to achieve their political purpose. For instance, according to Wikipedia.com (2006), in 1985 816 deaths, then in 2003, more than 1,000 people died by terorist acts around the world. In recent years, terrorism seems to be at a new height and attacks are much more violent than in the past. Unfortunately, in spite of many anti-terror campaigns, projects and organizations are being created for prevention (to prevent) terrorism, the number of terrorists only is increasing. These days terrorism is all over the world.
