Do you know what the Baltimore Ravens are named after? Have you ever heard of Edgar Allan Poe because due to this man that is how the Ravens were named. Poe lived a hard alcoholic type of life but fought through it and became one of the best authors and poets. I think Edgar Allan Poe is a amazing and super funny author but yet has somewhat of a creepy side to him. He also fought through a lot of adversity to get where was he was Edgar Allan Poe, was born on January 19, 1809. At a young age, Poe’s father left the family. At the age of two, his mother passed away of tuberculosis causing him to be adopted. With his foster family he moved to London where he stayed 5 years then to return to America and live in Virginia. He then would plan on attending the University of Virginia at the age of 17. This is when some of the darkness in his life comes out. Edgar started to drink forcing him to have no money sending him into debt and forcing him to drop out of college. Edgar did write and print his very first book called Tamerlane And Other Poems. The Raven, is another somewhat heartbreaking story about a man who is trying to forget his lost love. But the weird thing is that he wrote this before his wife died of tuberculosis. Poe is now heartbroken like some of his characters in his stories due to her passing. Poe travels all over the states visiting people and continues to write. Poe would then have a mysterious death on October 7, 1849. Now you may ask “How did Poe die?” the truth is that no one really knows. There are so many conspiracy theories on how he died. Most people believe that he was finishing up his book he was working on at the time and that the ink he was using was poisoned.
