Urban Blacks were also encounter with extreme racial violence in neighborhoods and at work. Different ethnic groups of new immigrants obtained power and used conflict as a strategy of diminishing urban Blacks power level. They began blocking Urban Black workers going to work throughout new immigrant’s neighborhoods. Race riots have played a crucial role in the social establishment of race, prejudice, and discrimination across the United States. Race riots uncovered fundamental tensions in societies experiencing swift technological and economic changes. In 1920, there were many race riots and other violence in many places, such as Red Summer Race Riots of 1919 and the St. Louis Riot of 1917 that took place during the segregation in the South and the Black urban migration to the North. These race riots were response to the reality that Urban Blacks were carrying on a powerful struggle against White supremacy. During race riots, Urban Blacks lived through a renewed flow of riots, massacres, and racial terrorism.

The neighborhood I have chosen is Watts, California. Before it was known as Watts it was a part of Rancho La Tajuata specializing in livestock grazing and beef production. In the 1870's there was a population boom of White Americans in Southern California. La Tajuata was divided and sold into smaller farms and homes. By the 1900's the development of the railroads brought good things. The town became a city and built it's first station known as Watts Station. In 1926 the city annexed itself to Los Angeles. The railroads brought Mexican and Mexican American workers known as "traqueros" into the community.

Provided the unofficial definition, majority of the United States could easily guess the word: “The slums outside of Los Angeles. This area is very poor and revolves around gang violence, sex and drug dealing.” That’s correct, you guessed it right! It’s the infamous Compton. The city that everyone has heard in the news or in a song at one point or another. This definition was taken from Urban Dictionary, a site that allows anyone to define specific words and terms. It is easy to see that Compton is often related with drugs, crime and gangs, but the general public fails to realize the truth behind the suburb. The smaller Los Angeles district is filled with hard working people that have been disenfranchised and defined as numbers and statistics.

Inspired by the Wilmington Riots of 1898, Charles Chesnutt delves deep into the racial tensions of the South in his novel On the Marrow of Tradition. Despite being set well after the end of the Civil War, the struggle between the black and white races is far from over. The white race insists on maintaining complete control in every aspect of society, including personal matters. They are constantly demanding that the black community serve them. On the other end, the black race is struggling to survive the harsh conditions the white-dominated society imposes on them. Throughout the novel, Chesnutt reminds us of the ongoing battle between the two races. At the same time, Chesnutt explores the effect this has on various members in society. The youngest two characters in the novel, Dodie and Doctor Miller’s son, exemplify the conditions and consequences for the black and white races. Although they seem to be secondary characters in On the Marrow of Tradition, both Dodie and Doctor Miller’s son play a crucial role in the representation of their respective races.

Martin Luther King Jr. was not only a huge civil rights activist, but a person to look up to in such dire times. He gave people hope and spoke of the equality for all. Due to his popularity and worldwide recognition, his death was of course a huge topic to be discussed. On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther Jr. was shot outside his hotel room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead at 7:05 that evening. The announcement of his death immediately caused an uproar and later even violence to occur. Martin Luther King Jr’s death was no ordinary death, upon investigating the case, questions were being brought up. This lead to conspiracy theories to be made about the case of his murder.

The events of the Detroit Riots are much like the 2015 Baltimore Riots of today. Freddie Gray, who was apparently in good health at the time of his arrest, sustained neck and spine injuries while in transport in a police vehicle. Gray was in a coma and died the following day. What initially started out as peaceful protests began due to the inability of the police to adequately or consistently explain the events following the arrest and the injuries sustained by Gray in police car, turned violent after Gray’s funeral. Stores were looted, rocks were being thrown at the police and buildings and cars were set on fire. The end result was at least 400 people arrested with hundreds injured including police and civilians along with hundreds of businesses

This book was filled with passages and quotes that made a lasting impression on me not only for the content they contained but also the way that they were written. One passage that really stuck with me was the bottom passage on pages 202-203. This passage left an impression on me for many reasons but mainly because it described such violent events that happened in Chicago that I never knew about which was quite a wake up call. I did not even know that race riots ever happened in Chicago and to find out that they were as violent and deadly as they were shocked me quite a bit. Now a days, I never hear anyone talking about the race riots that happened in Chicago which is surprising because by looking back at those times in our history it shows how much our society has grown and improved. These race riots changed the course of Chicago's history which is why it is surprising to me that I have never even heard of them before.

A riot means a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd. Like the two riots we are going to see that happened in Baltimore City. Recently Baltimore had a riot but that wasn’t the first riot that Baltimore had, in 1968 there was a riot and this year 2015 another riot happened. The Baltimore riots are proof that things do stay the same.

When it rains, it pours; and where tragedy strikes, a war will follow. This is what comes to mind when the subject of Baltimore arises. The unexpected death of a young Baltimore man, Freddie Gray, while in police custody, sparked the flame in the city’s ongoing rage and riots. Autopsy reports showed signs of “high-energy injury “as the cause of death, suggesting neglect from the arresting officers (New York Times, 2015). When information was leaked of this tragedy, people in the community were negatively affected, and many began to riot. At this point, the question is not how to stop the rioting, but how to prevent it?

Sometimes people fail to realize we need law and order in our communities. Again, those in the law enforcement are not above the law. We all need each other’s support in a community and riots is not the answer. The police are there to protect, keep citizens safe and show the society the importance of law. Despite that some police officers brutally took certain people’s lives, today it creates a lack of trust for them. People no longer respect or cherish police presence. The Louisiana flood is a proof that communities need the presence of law enforcement officers. The police showed their commitment by extending their hands to rescue even those could have challenged them during recent the Louisiana riot.

The UCC’s connection with Newark’s African-American community leads them to become a prime suspect in the instigations of the Newark riots. The UCC was seen as an opposer to the government’s policies and therefore the UCC was present lead them to become primary suspects in the instigation of the riots. The attack on the organizations is seen as Senator Jackson and Mr. Alderman interrogated Miss Levins. The dialogue says the following : “ Miss Levins. Yes. He [ Mr. Kennedy] asked me to make up some fliers to be distributed sometime that afternoon. I asked him exactly what he wanted on the fliers, and he said, "Anything pertaining to a rally." Mr. Alderman. Did he ask you to make the flier calling a meeting or a mass rally at 7 :30 that. Night

The Columbia Race Riot was best known for being the first major confrontation following World War II. It’s a story of anger, fear, violence, and the law in a Tennessee town. The riot began with a 19 year old black navy veteran, James Stephenson and a white repairman. Their fight was over a botched radio repair. James Stephenson escaped being lynched in Columbia, Tennessee. The story had articles that were publish by Africans American and all white publishers. The newspaper articles from the publishers had many differences, but also had many similarities. The Nashville Globe by African Americans publishers and the Columbia Daily Herald by White Publishers caught my eye first. What similarities did both articles have? What differences did both articles have? After extensive research The Columbia Riot played a big role in the fight to freedom for African Americans.

4 police men all but one charge connected to a severe beating because the man was in a high speed pursuit ,but then he stopped and got caught.So now the cops all but one got a charge for beating the african american motorist in march 1991.A result of 50 people were killed,more than 2,300 people were injured and about thousands were arrested on that night in the riot.About 1,100 buildings ended up being wrecked.The cost for the buildings was about 1 billion dollars for the damage that people had done to the buildings.It was the most devastating riots in american history.And still is to this day.There was a lot of damage in the riot.White police force practiced racial profiling and engaged in racist

Baltimore became one of the nation’s foremost topics when an arrest lead to a mysterious injury. Officers in the city of Baltimore know that there are three African-Americans to every two caucasians. With this also comes the responsibility of maintaining the peace between the two historically-different ethnicities. Tensions have never dissipated from the city but instead been placed on the back burner of the city’s pressing battles.

As a process, gentrification has had both a negative and positive impact on the society as well as affected the economic status of the involved countries or towns. As a way
