Uncle Axel from The Chrysalids, by John Wyndham is a good role model, because David likes Axel as a friend, Axel helps David not fear his abilities, and Uncle Axel makes David feel good about his telepathic abilities. My first quote that proves Axel is a good role model in The Chrysalids is that David looks at Axel as a friend. David makes this clear to the reader when he says “He was a useful all-round man, though slow in getting around because of his leg, so my father let him live with us: he is also my best friend.”(Wyndham 22). Because David says this it proves that David likes Axel, and thinks of him as his best friend, and he thinks Axel is wise and will listen to him. My next quote that proves Axel, from The Chrysalids is a good role
• What are their outstanding qualities? Does the author give any indication as to how or why the character developed these qualities?
True role models are those who possess the qualities that we would want to have in the near future and those who interest us in a way that make us want to be a better person. They teach us more about ourselves and encourage us to make better choices. A role model is not just someone who is successful, but someone who has had similar experiences that we have had. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee demonstrates that Atticus Finch is a true role model. Over the course of the novel, Atticus stands up for his beliefs, respects everyone despite who they are and behaves as a true father. Atticus is truly the ideal role model.
She can also stand up for herself when there is a conflict. I can relate with her because I am usually really shy in the beginning, but I can get talkative if I’m with friends. While Rosa Hubermann usually calls Liesel out using swear words, and gets mad for no reason, but in the end those were her own ways of saying that she cares. I can compare myself to her because I can get annoyed and mad easily. Meanwhile Rudy Steiner, a young boy can take care of everyone, make people feel welcome, help others when there’s a problem, and he will even do anything to keep others happy. I can compare myself with some of these traits because I like to help others with things they do, for example, I help other people with homework and other projects. Death is also a character that I can relate to because he can experience sadness, joy and even depression. He looks for hope in the gathering, reading, and telling of stories, he also finds ways to give meaning to his work. I can relate to him because he is a hard worker, and even though his job is depressing he finds ways to make it
said, “Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.” This is a great
For example, King Charlemagne. Pippin has a hard time looking to him as a role model considering he never listens to Pippin, in Pippin’s eyes he is a tyrannical ruler and Pippin doesn’t agree with most of the things the he is doing as King, like slaying the people for protesting. This is an extremely prevalent problem in America today. Many young people feel they don’t have a voice in any problems that are going on in the country and they feel that can’t look up to anybody to help and guide them. There is also Fastrada, Pippin’s step-mother, who is also a horrible role model. She lies and steals from the King and is completely full of herself. And then there is Berthe, Pippin’s grandmother, who some may argue is a good role model. However, she tells Pippin, “…don’t do too much planning, and don’t do too much thinking.” Which is not great advice, especially the way Pippin takes it, which is to just enjoy the “simple things” without thinking about the
To continue, David was afraid and insecure when he realized he was a deviant, but he found love and support in a single person, Uncle Axel. Before David came to understand just how different he was, Uncle Axel quickly warned him to keep his ability secret. While most other people of his society would have reported
The world would be much different if society does not pressure one to look like perfection. In John Wyndham’s novel The Chrysalids, each and every character must be like everyone else and if they are not, the village sends them to live in the outskirts of the towns where the chances of survival are close to zero. Though everyone looks the same, people think about the concept of society and sameness differently. There are three different types of people in each village. Number one, there is Joseph Strorm, leader of Waknuk, whose obsession with the norm renders him blind in seeing and welcoming the value something possesses, instead all his eyes allow him to see are what is in front of them. Then there is David Strorm and his group of deviants
A role model is an irreplaceable person who often has a following of people who attempt to emulate their actions and reactions. They often are in places of authority or, rather, noble in the eyes of their attendants. Role models yield a lot of value in many societies proven through literature in “The Color of Water” by James McBride, observations of mentors both in history and the present, and my personal experience with leaders who I appreciate.
“Everyone in society should be a role model, not only for their own self-respect, but for respect from others.” ~ Barry Bonds. In this world bad situations occur frequently and it takes a good strong person to handle them in a mature way. Dealing with them this way not only shows that the person has self-control, but also makes them a good role model for people to look up to. In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok uses Mr. Galanter to express his opinions of a good role model. Acting as a baseball coach and gym teacher, young boys look to him for guidance and motivation every day. Having this kind of position causes stress at times, and requires him to stay calm and level headed. Throughout this book, Mr. Galanter
On the contrary, Uncle Axel is an open-minded man who believes that there is no real true image of man and that deviations are not from the devil. Uncle Axel had been to many places where he has seen people who believe in different true images. He is not sure of what the true image is because of the different beliefs that he has seen. Unlike Joseph Uncle Axel is accepting of people who are deviations. He is willing to go as far as to protect the mutants (deviations) such as
Even though Uncle Axel is the brother of Emily Strorm, who is married to an anti-diverse husband – Joseph Storm- he continues to tolerate and accept deviants. After David talks through telepathy to Rosalind, Uncle Axel overhears David and begins to questions him of who he is talking to, since no one else is in the room with him: “Uncle Axel found out about me my half-cousin, Rosalind Morton. He – and it was lucky it was he, and no one else – happened to come upon me when I was talking to her” (Wyndham 29). Uncle Axel remembers how children with deviations living undetected are treated, he considers, this time, to teach David on the importance of hiding the deviation. Later on, Uncle Axel finds out there are more telepaths, and tolerates it because in a way, killing children with deviations is a way to torture them.
Role models are very important in people's lives as they provide people with someone to look up to. Their actions are constantly looked and mistakes are highlighted. Roy makes two oddball friends and a bad enemy and joins an effort to stop construction of a pancake house which would destroy a colony of burrowing owls who live on the site Roy Eberhardt from the story Hoot is a good role model because he is warm-hearted and heroic.
To begin with, a role model is hardworking. Erin’s dad had to overcome many obstacles in his early life. “He was not from the richest family and had many financial issues. He also had to experience many of his close family members dying. As he grew older, he was able to build himself a career and become
From the moment babies are able to walk they are influenced by older people in the world. Kids look up to people because there hair, sport ablitity, clothes, people skills. Having a good postive role model in children and young adults to being a parent. Stephen curry is my role model because he is a outstanding althlete , an sublime teammate, and is a high awarded basketball player.
Throughout someone’s life they have a role model that they look up to and admire. Whether it be a super hero, a relative, or even a friend, they still look up to that individual. My role model comes in the form of a five foot five man, with short black hair, and a face just like mine. He’s my father and even though he’s no super hero, he’s still definitely the person I look up to the most. Whether it be supporting my dreams, needing someone to talk to, or needing a ride to a date, he’s always there for me. When it comes down to it he’s the person I admire most, my role model, father, mentor, and most importantly my friend.
