Over the years, elder people are being abused, mistreated, and exploited. These victims are people who are of age, weak, and hopeless who cannot defend themselves. Men and women are abuse by their caregivers, family, friends and etc. Elder abuse refer to any know mistreatment or negligent by any person that is causing harm or a serious risk of maltreatment to a hopeless adult. Elder abuse can take numerous forms such as emotional, physical, financial, neglect, sexual and etc. What are the signs of elder abuse and how many people are suffering from elder abuse in the U.S.? How can anyone tell if someone is being abusive? What should be done if someone suspect elder abuse?
What are the signs of elder abuse and how many people are suffering from elder abuse in the U.S.? Bruises, broken bones, cuts may be an indication of lack of care, exploitation and physical abuse. Any changes in their daily activities, a sudden change in attentiveness, and unhappiness may be a sign of emotional abuse. Unexplained vaginal or anal bleeding can be a sign of sexual abuse. Significant withdrawals from the elder’s bank account can be a result of financial abuse. Infrequent weight loss, starvation, and dehydration is a sign of neglect by family members, caregiver, friends, and someone who they trusted. Strained relationship, numerous arguments between the caregiver and elderly person are also signs.
It’s kind of hard to tell how many older Americans are being mistreated, neglected, and abused.
